  165. I rented this film even if I really HATED the original and
  166. was pleasantly surprised ... Not that I actually can
  167. recommend this sequel but 2.5/5 ain't bad considering I
  168. gave 1.5/5 to the original.

  170. Nothing really new and original here.  Jennifer Love Hewitt
  171. and her friend Brandi win a vacation to a remote island and
  172. then a stalker slices-and-dices people one by one, seen
  173. that often ! ... Jack Black making an appearance as a long
  174. haired pot smoking dude, sligtly annoying, luckily he
  175. didn't STICK AROUND too much !.

  177. I thought it was scary in part, better than the first one
  178. that was making me laugh !  The acting is so-so all the way
  179. through, but I felt the characters this time around were a
  180. lil' bit more intelligent (Which may not be too hard to
  181. achieve but anyway !)

  183. The whole time while watching ISKWYDLS I knew I was being
  184. "played", Jennifer Love Hewitt walking around with those
  185. tight outfits, white t-shirt, etc.  But it was still better
  186. than the first one that also featured many curveous ladies
  187. and it's worth a look if you have seen all the other horror
  188. films basically (almost !)

  190. (I am in the mood to watch horror films these days, I was
  191. even considering watching "The faculty" (1998 ?) from
  192. Robert Rodriguez ... I need my "FIX" of horror films !)
  193.  
  194. ISKWYDLS has a Silly ending though !  Falls apart in the
  195. last 15 minutes  but by that time I had been reasonably
  196. entertained anyway ! 2.5/5, not so AWFUL, especially since
  197. it cost me 0.65$US to see it !  (1 canadian $ !)

  223. This was a pretty good film, Pulp fiction wannabe (wallaby
  224. !) ...

  226. Thriller/film noir about a man who double crosses a
  227. gangster type (Peter Fonda !) and then the naughty boy has
  228. plastic surgery to change his appearance and tries to go
  229. under cover with the money he stole (2 million $$$) ...
  230. Question : Why would he open an old used book store then ??
  231.  If you try to disappear, wouldn't it be reasonable not to
  232. open a BUSINESS ??  ;-)
  233.  
  234. Of course Fonda is rather annoyed and hires two contract
  235. killers to go after him (including the lovely Natasha
  236. Henstridge, spelling ??).  
  237.  
  238. That's only the beginning, multiple twists and turns along
  239. the way, double crossings, Mexican stand offs, "Pulp
  240. fiction" is obviously an influence so if you liked that one
  241. it is "possible" you might enjoy "Second skin" as well.
  242. Nice soundtrack too, Pulp fiction-ish !
  243.  
  244. Bad lighting though, camera work, obviously low budget
  245. material.  Once, a guy ranting and raving, and we can't
  246. even see his face ... cos' it's too dark !  I also disliked
  247. the fact that two very similar looking actors are involved
  248. and at one point I was a bit confused wondering who the
  249. hell was that guy ... until I realized it wasn't the same
  250. one, hehe !
  251.  
  252. I was also reminded of "Bound" (1996) while watching it but
  253. both "Pulp fiction" and "Bound" are 5/5 films, so this one
  254. is not in the same category but still worth a look.

  282. I really HATED this teen comedy.  1/5 !! It would make it
  283. on my list of most awful films in any year basically.

  285. Drew Barrymore plays a so-called journalist who goes
  286. undercover in a high school to write articles about the
  287. student life.  We hardly get to see any of her articles and
  288. I was wondering why the paper would send her there in the
  289. first place ... weeks and months of undercover "work", all
  290. sorts of people involved simply to write only one REAL
  291. article ?? Get real !!  This is ludicrous !!  
  292.  
  293. Plus she dresses like a FREAK on her first day and acts
  294. totally inadequate as well, she would be spotted in 2
  295. seconds if this wasn't HOLLYWOOD !!  White jeans and a long
  296. white BOA around her neck ?? Please ... only CHER would
  297. dress like that !

  299. The film contains basically every clichΘs in the book and
  300. the teens in that high school are all annoying lil' brats.
  301. Intelligent people are few and far between and they are
  302. seen as "boring" and/or "uncool", big surprise ... it's
  303. cool when you know NOTHING apparently, "image" is
  304. everything there and if you don't know who is Gordie Howe
  305. you are a typical student apparently ... dumb jocks, pretty
  306. girls mistreating her, bla-bla.

  308. David Arquette is so annoying as Drew's brother, he's
  309. supposed to be the lousy brother who comes back to high
  310. school to make people think Drew is REALLY cool ... it's
  311. not even mentioned that he looks like he's 32 years old !

  314. I didn't buy Drew as a nerdy girl either, she was doing her
  315. best though, nice effort in the so-called romance dept.
  316. too, but I just didn't care for her and her character, not
  317. her fault as even if it had starred an actress I liked more

  319. watching this seriously flawed movie ...

  321. Ebert gave 3/4 to that one ?? Gimme a break, Roger !!  He
  322. seems to have a thing for High school comedies, didn't he
  323. also like the recent "Sugar and spice" ??  Also a 3/4 for
  324. "Final destination" ... Roger is losing it ??!! ... 
  325. 1/5 seems more appropriate !!

  394. Ok, this movie wasn't so bad, but it wasn't so good either,
  395. 2.5/5 ... It was on a downhill in the 2nd half though and
  396. near the end I was hesitating between 2 and 2.5/5 but
  397. decided I should be generous, especially since the teens in
  398. that film were actually smarter than in most movies (Like
  399. "Never been kissed" I just saw recently for example !)
  400. The guys and girls in this movie were geniuses in
  401. comparison !
  402.  
  403. The movie is set in a high school and students are 
  404. worried that their teachers are now ALIENS, having been
  405. contaminated by an organism from outer space that makes 
  406. its way to the brains of the victims through their ears,
  407. gross !  They try to deal with this "situation" in the
  408. usual way ... hehe ! Yeah, right !  ;-)   
  409.  
  410. Elijah Wood plays the geeky kid and you know that he'll
  411. turn out to be the hero if you have seen a few of those
  412. teen horror films !  Robert Patrick is also good as the
  413. nasty football coach who is the first alien "victim" !
  414.  
  415. One of the first things I noticed was how LOUD the movie
  416. was, music blasting in the speakers often, kind of annoying
  417. !  At one point they even use "Another brick in the wall"
  418. from Pink Floyd, shame on them ! ... People popping up
  419. behind one of the characters and a LOUD noise is heard to
  420. scare you, etc.  It wasn't really frightening anyway
  421. because it was so over-the-top I was laughing in part ...
  422. ;-)

  424. Some scenes are pulled right out of other movies, "Aliens",
  425. "The thing", "The hidden" ... only not as effective of
  426. course ... I was kind of shocked at the drug use in this
  427. movie as well. They make it seem cool to take drugs
  428. actually, bizarre ... Supposidely the aliens who take this
  429. particular drug die instantly, some kind of powder that is
  430. sniffed ... so at one point all the members of the group
  431. have to take that drug to prove they are not aliens ... a
  432. bit ridiculous !

  434. The special effects were good though, I liked it when that
  435. alien jumped in the swimming pool, nice work ... but why
  436. was it so DARK all the time near the end ?  Bad lighting,
  437. so I couldn't distinguish very well all the details,
  438. reminded me of those strip clubs where the lights are so
  439. dimmed you can't really *see* anything, you can only
  440. *sense* it ... oops .. I mean .. from what I have HEARD !

  479. I saw that film last night, not a whole lot to say about it
  480. either, 2.5/5 ... It's virtually a remake of the original
  481. film and the 1976 film is superior in nearly every aspect
  482. actually.

  484. Unpopular girl with telekynesic (spelling !?) powers is
  485. "tricked" into attending a party by the "pretty people" ...
  486. and then is the victim of a cruel prank, then all hell
  487. breaks lose ... fire, explosions, harpoons, etc.

  489. A bizarre "contest" in the middle of this, football players
  490. getting points when they sleep with underaged girls ?? Oh
  491. please !  Of course they act like jerks ! Those jocks were
  492. getting on my nerves !

  494. I liked the love story with that boy though, just like in
  495. the original "Carrie", how that boy was nice to Sissy
  496. Spacek !

  498. The girl (Emilie Bergl, not sure !) in the lead was ok
  499. though, the other characters kept saying she was ugly, but
  500. I thought she was actually pretty cute myself !  ;-)   Her
  501. mom is in an insane asylum and the high school guidance
  502. person (played by Amy Irving !) is doing her best to help
  503. her out ... all of this is very predictable anyway ...

  711. Alright, I saw this film last night and thought it was
  712. simply terrible ... 1 out of 5 seems appropriate.

  714. It is hard to find anything positive to say about this film
  715. actually except maybe the special effects and the Aerosmith
  716. music sometimes that were ok ... besides that it was indeed
  717. a disaster.

  719. Awful dialogues, silly characters, sappy la-la story in
  720. part, all the way to the pathetic ending ... ludicrous
  721. story with 101 plot holes and things that don't make sense,
  722. they should have been killed 67 times at least IMO so as
  723. you can imagine I was rolling my eyes back big time, in
  724. fact if I had not been sitting I might have fallen ... hehe
  725. ! You stop caring for the characters because it's so "out
  726. there" all the time ... not to mention extremely L_O_U_D !!

  728. Simple story, a huge asteroid will collide with Earth and
  729. destroy everything in 3 weeks or so ... can the americans
  730. save the world ??  hehe !!  Everyone on the entire planet
  731. is helpless of course and the best guys to do the job are a
  732. bunch of Yahoos from Hickville, USA ... The relief !!  They
  733. need to drill a hole in the bugger, drop the nuke inside
  734. and blow it to kingdom come .. or whatever ...

  737. wish I could use a CATTLE PROD on most of these characters
  738. to SHOCK them back into reality ... getting drunk,

  862. I watched Nurse Betty last night and thought it was a very
  863. good film. 3.5/5

  865. Story of a soap opera addict (Renee Zelweeger, spelling !)
  866. who is traumatized after seeing her husband killed and
  867. develops this fixation on a "Doctor" in her favorite soap.
  868. She decides to take off and go meet him thinking it's all
  869. REAL ... The killers are in hot pursuit because she left
  870. with a car that contained something they needed to recover.
  871.  
  872. I thought this was a fairly amusing film for the most part
  873. ... Good acting by everyone involved too : Renee Zelweeger,
  874. Morgan Freeman, Greg Kinnear, Aaron Eckardt as the creepy
  875. husband  ... I even liked Chris Rock in this part and he
  876. usually is a REPELLENT.  Funny one liners ...
  877.  
  878. The film only loses it a bit in the last 15 minutes or so
  879. ... I was hesitating often between 3.5 and 4/5 but with
  880. that ending that is a bit too much on the slapstick side I
  881. have to remain at 3.5
  882.  
  883. I thought they were pushing it a bit there with Freeman and
  884. his infatuation for the lovely lass.  (Why was that twist
  885. necessary ?? Sometimes less is more IMO !)

  917. some of the things that were happening on the screen ...

  924. recall Siskel and Ebert raving about it on their TV show

  928. dramatic ... Quite effective overall but this film is
  929. really hard to find anywhere, I couldn't find it for 2-3
  930. years at least and then this girl has a copy of it on her
  931. shelf and says she loves it ... She was surprised I had
  932. heard of it before actually !

  976. That film was very watchable but the terrible ending (last
  977. 20 minutes or so) make me give it a 2/5  ... it just runs
  978. out of steam IMHO. For the most part I was thinking it had
  979. a shot at a 3/5.

  981. Sellers is funny and memorable as an awful indian actor who
  982. is invited to a party at a big kahuna's house from the
  983. studio ...

  985. Of course nothing goes well and he keeps getting into
  986. trouble ... Directed by Blake Edwards.

  1031. quite enjoyable.  But hardly the funniest movie of all time, as per the
  1032. recent Top-100 list.

  1066. The other night I watched "Out of Africa" (1985) and I
  1067. think it's a classic case of a movie that may be of high
  1068. quality in terms of acting, dialogues, sets, costumes,
  1069. music, visuals ... etc. but that is rather boring anyway
  1070. ... just because the story is highly uninteresting.

  1072. After all the story is the most important part of a movie
  1073. so even if all the other aspects are appropriate if the
  1074. story doesn't appeal to me it won't make a big difference
  1075. ...

  1077. My rating :  1.5/5, cos' I was just too bored most of the
  1078. times despite the movie's obvious qualities as I mentioned
  1079. above.  If the other aspects of the movie had not been so
  1080. impressive I might have given a lower rating of course.

  1082. Quite a performance by Meryl Streep though ... Robert
  1083. Redford usually annoys me, in this one he was more
  1084. endurable.
