I was wondering if anyone has seen the film Titus? I am trying to decide if I want to buy it on DVD but I have not seen it. In my town this film did not play for a long time. I like Anthony Hopkins and most Shakespeare that is brought to the big screen. I have read the play and it would seem to make a good film. But right now I just wanted to get some opinions about the film.
Well I saw Titus yesterday and have to say it's a little surreal and
very good. It's kind of a mix of Greenaway, Luhrmann and Brannagh.
The director is a theatre legend, and so there's a heavier than
normal emphasis on performance and choreographed movement, but the
real thing that had me loving the film was Sir Anthony Hopkins
giving perhaps his finest performance ever. He's just on fire in
this film. I enjoyed the flick a lot, but it was more out of
appreciation for that performance and the original way it's put
together than anything else, and most filmgoers won't appreciate it,
I'm sure.
It's probably best summed up as Gladiator for the educated.

Ouch. I really resent the modernist notion of high-art and low-art. Instead of saying "Gladiator for the educated", its better to say "Gladiator for those who appreciate Shakespeare and theatre".
I generally just ignore reviewers and people who use education, intellect or whatever kind of intellectual barrier, as a way to degrade some movies while elevating others. A Movie packed full of allusions and intellectual insight doesn't guarantee truth and quality, and sometimes, the most basic stories are the ones that lasts.

Yep, my mom really likes this film so I have seen it many times growing up. She probably watched it at least once a month. It might be a favorite for everyone but Kirk Douglas isn't bad, in my opinion. The film keeps me entertained and that is all I ask of any film.
I was wondering if anyone knows films that have to deal with Ireland? The only films I can think about are The Boxer, In the Name of the Father, Micheal Collins, and Far and Away to a certain extent. But I am trying to find more on Ireland for a class I am taking. Thanks,
Thanks for all the suggestions. I did not know there was so many films that pertained to Ireland. Now I just have to go and try to find these and watch some of them.
