I have a DVD-Rom on my computer which is nice. The only problem is my montior is only a 16 inch so it is not as big as I would like it to. The only problem I have is I just bought The Sixth Sense and on the DVD at the beginning it shows 5 trailers for movies before it even got to the menu. And I could not skip them. I don't know about every one else but this is something that gets to me. If I wanted to see trailers for movies I would go to the theatre. If I purchase a moive on DVD or video I don't like to see trailers. I just want to watch the movie. I also wish the Star Wars movies would come out on DVD. I guess George Lucas just wants everyone to buy them on video and DVD. The DVD format would suit all four movies and make them better than watching them on video. I sure hope in time he will come over to the DVD side. Believe me, those of us in the industry, those that have backed DVD since the inception in 1997, are not at all happy with that move. Even better, look at what they are promoting. Now go to the store and price those DVDs. Some of the most expensive ones on the market. Star Wars is a horse of an entirely different colour. The rumour is that since Speilberg was such a big backer of DIVX, he is trying all he can to avoid DVD. When you consider what is missing from DVD, some of the biggest movies ever, and perfectly suited for DVD (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, ET), and that both Private Ryan and American Beauty have been delayed, the rumour starts to sound believable. Supposedly, Lucas wants to wait till the entire series is done, and release one big, huge collector's edition. Well, someone needs to tell Mr Lucas that many of the people that would buy such a collector's edition would buy the movies individually now, AND the collector's edition when that comes out. But there's something which I would like to say about the recent Oscar's (if it hasn't been said to death already) best supporting actor. Personally, I was quite impressed by Michael Clark Duncan, not least because I watched the Green Mile only three days before the ceremony. Having watched him in Whole Nine Yards a couple of weeks before that, I thought he was quite credible with the character he was trying to portray. Certainly had me feeling the sadness and the pain. As for who should win, perhaps the best supporting actor/actress category winners tend to go to characters who are more well-known and established... recall: Dame Judi Dench winning for Shakespeare in Love for, what, a 2-minute performance? While I like to watch trailers on my DVDs, I don't like to be FORCED to watch them. What's odd is that these same trailers are accessable through the main menu on the disc. As if I'd want to see them again after having them crammed down my throat. What's funny is that if they had these trailers as an option only, everybody would be happy and calling them a "feature." I'm worried since it is possible to disable all buttons and force you to watch the trailers (like with the FBI warnings). MISSION TO MARS has been out for weeks, and is about to move to second-run theaters. While PRIVATE RYAN was delayed on DVD, it did come out in both DTS and Dolby 5.1 versions. I have the Dolby disc, and it's reference quality, with some great features. AMERICAN BEAUTY is delayed for a special edition as well, and if the disc is as good as the SPR disc (and it sounds like it's going to be even better), it'll be worth the wait. BTTF is supposed to come out later this year as well in nice special editions. Other Spielberg titles are out on DVD as well (including a Director's Cut of 1941). CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is slated to be coming out in the next year. He has been told, but doesn't care. Lucasfilm was sent a list of 10 questions from DVD consumers and they responded that they weren't putting out STAR WARS on DVD until Lucas has time to do it right. Awards that are more for lifetime achievement than the actual performance (Judi Dench, Michael Caine, etc). 2. Awards to young actors who you never hear from again (Cuba Gooding Jr, Mira Sorvino, Marisa Tomei, etc). I myself use the term "video" as a shortened form of "videotape." Since VHS is by far the most popular way to purchase pre-recording films on tape, I indirectly mean VHS. When somebody says "Do you have BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO on video?" I think everybody knows that they mean VHS. Nobody says things like "The audio commentary on my RAT FINK A BOO BOO video was great, so was the Dolby 5.1 audio!" Again, you are 100% correct in terms of proper usage of the term, but I ain't never spoke no proper english! BloodQuest was first published in Warhammer Monthly comics by Games Workshop, a British company. The BloodQuest story was featured in the first issue of the comic and continues to be a mainstay as Warhammer Monthly enters its third year of publication, Exile said. BloodQuest tells the story of a group of men who are part Knight Templar and part RoboCop and who dwell in a futuristic universe of technology and dark ritual. -=> * <=- Don Bluth, co-director of the upcoming animated SF epic Titan A.E., said it wasn't easy to combine the film's computer animation with the more traditional hand-drawn variety, according to Cinescape Online. "The biggest challenge has been trying to blend the CGI [computer-generated imagery] animation with 2-D animation, because about 60 percent of the picture is CGI," Bluth told Cinescape magazine editor Steve Hockensmith. Bluth added, "Oftentimes, when you put those two animals together, they don't marry very well because they look so different." "The first part explored [Blade's] interaction with society in a modern city, and now the idea is to see how he functions from within," del Toro told the newspaper. I thought I'd share my thoughts. 1. KEEPING THE FAITH -- An interesting concept, about three best friends so caught up in their own problems that they don't see what the other two are going through. It's also a rare film where characters are allowed to be religious without being mocked for it (another is the recent RETURN TO ME). As you probably already know, the story involves a rabbi (Ben Stiller) and a priest (Edward Norton) whose lives are turned upside down when their old friend, now a workaholic consultant (Jenna Elfman) comes to down. The writer is clearly more comfortable with the Jewish parts of the script, as they seem to ring truer while the Catholic portions are painted with a broader brush. Ultimately, the film is hit and miss. Some scenes are great (just about any scene between Stiller and Elfman) and many of the smaller roles are quite hilarious. But for every good scene there is a bad one, and Norton gives a sometimes-awful over-the-top performance. I would recommend this film as a rental. 2. AMERICAN PSYCHO -- How often is a film better than the book? Not very, but sometimes it does happen. AMERICAN PSYCHO is one of those cases. The book was repetitive and overly graphic. The film keeps the good parts (notably the satire and themes) but trims the fat. It's well directed and acted, and interesting to watch. The film is well paced and very cinematic, more so than many adaptations of novels. However, viewer beware: this film is NOT SCREAM 4. It is a skewering of greed, materialism, pop music, and yuppies in the late 1980's. If that doesn't interest you, than look elsewhere. Recommended, even to those who may have been put off by the book. 3. FREQUENCY -- The best of the three movies, FREQUENCY is on the surface a science-fiction tale about the consequences of trying to change the past. But the film has a heart, and is well-acted and written. Sure, it's predictable and there are no real surprises, but the film still works because you care about the characters (RETURN TO ME was the same way). I was extremely pleased that the trailer for this movie does not give away the entire picture. It only shows the setup, which (in my opinion) is all that a trailer needs to do. The movie was definately an audience-pleaser, the crowd I was with broke out in applause (the last time I saw this happen was in THE SIXTH SENSE). So one day they could be shooting the start of the movie then the next they could be shooting a scene half way through the third, like that. FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING is due to be released Christmas 2001, with the other two films coming out once a year after that. The first trailer is already on the web, and it looks great. I don't know about MATRIX 2. I would love to see a release next year, but I haven't heard a date. I have heard that 2 & 3 will be shot back-to-back and that they are trying to get Jet Li in the cast...but that's about it. They are shooting the three films together (as if they were one, longer film). But, like shooting any film it's not done in sequence. Terminator 3 and T4 are being developed by producers Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna. Arnold Schwarzenegger told SCI FI Wire recently that he would not reprise his Terminator role without Cameron. Co-star Linda Hamilton has also said in the past that she would not sign on to the sequels without Cameron's participation. Was it a good movie?? That, I guess, is a matter of opinion. I think it is important to keep its popularity in perspective. The makers of "Blair Witch" never intended it to achieve the success that it did. If you don't count the fact that it made gagillions of cash I, fo one, still think it was original, creative, and, at times, creepy. And I'll defend it for it's originality, to the grave. On the other hand, it certainly wasn't the best movie I've ever seen. On a side note, I saw Legend of Bogey Creek on TBS the other week and I was surprised at the similarities between BWP and Bogey Creek. For some reason "Bogey Creek" reminded me of "Blair Which" big time. Did anyone else notice this?? It also struck me as funny that Bogey Creek was also a low budget horror film that did surprise business at the box office. It has eye for almost everything. from the cool characters to the fantastic shots: when for example they arrive at the building were Neo sees Morpheus for the first time: that shot were you see rain falling down from the building: Awesome!!!!!!! When Keanu has to choose between red and blue: you see the reflection of Keanu in both eyes of morpheus'sunglasses but on one side the red pill and in the other the blue pill. The shot were trinity puts the gun against the head of the agent ("dodge this"). The fantastic choreography of the fighting sequences....awesome...off course there are some people amongst you who will tell that this has already been done in Hong Kong movies....well ok, but not this stylish and as cool as this one.
