I thought this was a sampled gospel song or something. Was it recorded
just for the song?

e-mail:
MOBY LINES UP BOWIE, BUSTA FOR AREA: TWO
DAVID BOWIE and BUSTA RHYMES will join MOBY as performers for his Area: Two
tour. The traveling festival is due to launch its sophomore run in the late
summer or early fall. Last year's inaugural Area: One featured NEW ORDER,
NELLY FURTADO, OUTKAST and PAUL OAKENFOLD. "There is an overabundance of
testosterone-driven rock at [other] festivals," Moby told Rolling Stone,
"and I wanted to do something that's interesting and aesthetically
challenging, in addition to being eclectic."

Subject: (mobility) moby in Request magazine
Hey guys... so my boss knows my love for our dear baldy friend and gave me
the magazine. It's not a really long article but it has some interesting
things in it i'll share with you.. if i get time tonight I'll just scan it
in again and put it online!
It first has a page on Moby and the new album:
"The new record builds on Play with more eclecticism and emotional depth,
sliding between new wave, Sugar Hill hip-hop, 70's soul, and indie rock,
with acmeos from Angie Stone, Sinead O'Connor, and MC Lyte."
The other two pages are from an interview:
Q:So what's the utility of 18?
A: I guess to serve as a sort of emotional soundtrack to people's lives. I
envision someone listening to it on their own -- making dinner, or getting
ready to go on vacation. ...The ideais: a good record is a good
companion.
There's some pictures as well with moby in space attire.. but not his
white space suit. (not as cute as his cover for the new album though)
That's all for now...

Subject: (mobility) FTP Mirror for 18, my opinions...
Hey everyone, I've set up a temporary mirror for the 18 album. Its
annonymous login (please don't tell others beyond this list about it, I
don't want an entire fucking irc channel trying to login). Here's the
address:
ftp://129.93.210.61
There are no connection or d/l restrictions, so have fun and buy the fucking
album when it comes out or I will send my minions to tear out your heart and
shove it where the sun don't shine.
Anyway, here's my take:
1, I caught the "sunday was a fine day" updated version as well, it IS the
same. As for the rest of the album, I agree with the somewhat luke warm
reception of the rest of the list: it seems like we've heard most of this
stuff before. But why is that a bad thing? We loved it before, we should
at least appreciate it again, right? Just because your expectations of a
revolutionary album have not been realized doesn't mean its a BAD album,
and its not. I can't say that I love it (at least right away) with to the
same degree as his other stuff, but its still a solid album. I'm looking
forward to the plethera of remixes, if the Tiesto Vocal Remix of WAAMOS is
any indication of what's to come.
Nevertheless I don't see this album becoming anywhere near as big as Play
did, it just doesn't seem (with a few exceptions, especially Jam for the
Ladies, I wonder why they didn't put this out as the first single, it seems
like the most radio/public friendly track) like an album that would have a
lot of appeal beyond us fans, especially since its reminiscent of play
itself--the american public in general will accept something new, but not
twice.
Anyway, enjoy d/ling.

I don't know why, but I guess I like most of the

I think the Olympic version is a sped up version of the album track. The
vocals from the Olympics sounded a lot higher in pitch.. or maybe it was the
live singer. When I heard it on the Olympics I thought the male vocals were
Moby's (how was I to know, they never showed him!). I think it still sounds
like Moby but the 'sample' noises are there.
I really like this song. Something about the way the string chord
changes/progressions are delayed a split second or so (compared to when you
are expecting to hear them).

Okay, first, shut off your html in your email program. (select plain
text).
Second, get an FTP program. If you dont' know what that is you should
probably learn, but if you don't, then open up netscape or internet
explorer and type as the address exactly as shown:
ftp://129.93.210.61
disco. If it is not too busy or you don't have a poor connection a file
named '18' should show up. double click it. There are all the files.
Highlight the file you want to download, then right click on it and select
"copy to folder" then select whatever directory you want it downloaded in.
after a few minutes (or hours), the download is complete.
Chris.
(for bart's ftp follow the same instructions but type in his address and
use his login and password, both of which escape my memory right now.)

Actually, I went to the website for the record company that is to put
that out, http://www.vitaminrecords.com and they have 3 audio samples
of the CD. It sounds like it might be pretty good, so I'll probably
wind up getting it.
BTW, I'm new to the list, so I just wanted to say hello to everyone.
I've been collecting Moby stuff for a little while now and I thought
I'd join this group. :-)
