  31. er, we're pretty much mocking the labels and management, not crying "sell
  32. out!" at moby. he certainly did sell out, in-and-of the fact that he
  33. apparently owns none of his songs, and therefor doesn't seem to get much
  34. say in anything dealing with them (which pretty much fucks me over), but
  35. whatever, that's not the issue oat hand. the issue at hand is primerally
  36. mocking v2 and mct.
  37. hope that clears things up a smidgen. :)

  92. backlash? what backlash? we're merely pointing an accusatory (middle) finger
  93. at the record labels who exploit artists, fans and anyone else who gets in
  94. the way.
  95. has moby sold out? well, his moral stand has changed. he has said he's grown
  96. up and altered his perspectives accordingly. i think he enjoys winding
  97. people up which may offer insight into why he embraced many of his earlier
  98. beliefs. 
  99. a cynical perspective would be that he got a lot of interest and notoriety
  100. from the media and public alike because of what he stood for in the early
  101. days. He made a decision to become a techno-star when all around him
  102. championed anonymity - which wound a lot of people up - and helped him to
  103. sell records. So it could be argued that he sold out back then, certainly he
  104. went against the code of the underground to become an overground, almost
  105. mainstream pop star from the release of 'Go'.
  106. However, if the call of 'sell out' is centered around his decision to allow
  107. his publishers and record label to rape the catalogue and license tracks to
  108. every morally corrupt corporate machine on the planet then the question has
  109. to be, how can any one person change their views to those extremes? did moby
  110. suffer any kind of culture shock when he shifted from one ideological
  111. hemisphere to the other? if moby has ever considered his songs to be his
  112. children - as many artists claim - then how can he sit back and watch them
  113. being abused? or is he just winding everyone up still?
  114. Personally I don't care how many records he sells. As with all artists that
  115. I admire, I like it when they become popular - it means that'll be able to
  116. record more music and put it out. Some of my favorite artists have
  117. disappeared because they never sold enough product to survive.
  118. At least Moby will be able to keep putting albums out (which might not have
  119. happened if he'd continued to record stuff like 'animal rights' or dance
  120. stuff even). 
  121. Finally... this kind of debate has always been encouraged by moby himself.
  122. criticism enables growth in a true artist.
  123. And who knows... maybe with his next album he'll turn down all requests for
  124. licensing, just to wind the corporate up. What d'ya reckon?

  285. Not very likely... I don't see Moby making another hard techno single a la
  286. Voodoo Child, and he said so himself that he won't be doing this kind of
  287. music in the near future. All Moby's musical talents have merged into one
  288. 'style' kind of like on Play where there are the guitars in Bodyrock and
  289. Southside and some dance stuff in Machete. But all is mixed now. I don't
  290. want to call myself a genre purist, but I think the next Moby album is going
  291. to be a lot like Play, no surprises, just those breakbeats with this time
  292. perhaps other samples than blues samples... I sure hope I'm wrong though..

  322. I agree with you on this one. Can't see Moby kicking against the pricks
  323. musically. My guess is that he'll bring in the real strings, real singers
  324. and real band, but it'll still sound like Moby in the mix.
  325. My pointy was that maybe he'll reject requests for his new tracks to be used
  326. on adverts etc - just to confound everyone who thinks they've got him
  327. pegged.

  344. i was killing a bit of time yesterday, so i tosed together a couple
  345. things.
  346. one's front and back covers of "overplay" (sarcasm runs amuck)

  351. joe cocker song, so i remixed that song along with bessie jones'
  352. "sometimes". so it's kinda like a groovy remix of honey with joe cocker
  353. singing on it (works better than kelis if you ask me), but moby's actually
  354. not in it at all as far as audio goes, stricktly joe cocker and bessie
  355. jones.
