  52. YOU to Mark too, I know he's been trying to make this happen a long time,
  53. and finally it's there! Whoohoo, the discography finally is searchable.
  54. (don't worry, there will always be the regular .txt version) but it's so
  55. convenient if you are shopping online and you quickly want to know what
  56. title is on which release :)

  178. the mobymusic search is at http://www.mobymusic.com/search/
  179. the ftp that cmb's talking about doesn't really have anything to do with
  180. it.
  181. as for the database file, you don't access it directly, you use the search
  182. interface tem and i put together. if you've got a halfway-capable web
  183. browser, yer all set (having a realaudio player helps too, but you don't
  184. have to listen to anything if you don't want, tho there's some 63 hours
  185. worth of audio. yes, that's right, 3 hours.

  237. sorry, you were right, its an .mdb file (microsoft database) you need
  238. Microsoft Access or MS Office to view it.  Sorry, I don't have a plain text
  239. as of now, I'll see what I can do though.  Actually, you can pretty much
  240. look at the discography itself.  I estimated that I have over 90% of his
  241. entire catalog, so its a pretty good bet that I have something.  If not
  242. simply request it to the list and I'm sure SOMEONE can help.

  244. Oh yeah, I forgot, a lot of the multimedia, videos, interviews, and even
  245. Live Performances are not included in the .mdb file.  I'll see if I can get
  246. a directory tree map of the CDs I have and post those instead.

  249. out everyone.

  253. ps, Mark is right, the Mobility FTP that I host is completely different from
  254. the mobymusic.com domain he administors--I just thought I'd post a friendly
  255. reminder.  The FTP has actually been up for almost what, 2 years now?  minus
  256. a 4 month stint when i was studying abroad.  Anyway, in the beginning there
  257. were MAJOR contributions, but recently, like the traffic flow on the list
  258. itself, accesses have gone down quite a bit.

  274. The mailing list currently has 331 members (190 non-digest / 141
  275. digest).  I can't remember how high that number has reached in the
  276. past but I'm surprised that the level of subscribers hasn't dropped
  277. that much, especially since the amount of email being sent has reduced
  278. significantly.  I think the volume of emails was reduced when moby.org
  279. started up.  At the time this mailing list was Moby's best outlet for
  280. responding on a personal basis as to what he was up to and thinking. 
  281. Sadly, I haven't kept in touch like I should.
  282.  
  283. My internet provider is introducing a new option for running mailing
  284. lists, it's called Mailman.  Has anyone had experience with this? 
  285. What is your opinion of it if so.  My understanding is that it adds a
  286. web based method for participating, and as an owner, administrating
  287. the mailing list.  If it proves to be a positive tool or forum for
  288. mailing lists I may switch things over.  I image this is still several
  289. months away from happening, if at all.

  292. problem with unsubscribing from the non-digest version of Mobility now
  293. that you have the digest version.  Has that been resolved?  If not,

  376. oi there mobilites,
  377. was wondering if any of you out there had either of the feeling so real
  378. 10"s (especially the soapbar release) and would let us (me and bart) know
  379. what the etchings around the labels say, and the label colors and what
  380. sleve it came in. we're trying to do a little deductive reasoning about
  381. these releases.
  382. as close as we can tell at this point, there were 3 versions of the mute
  383. 10", the first got released, the second got ditched, the third got
  384. liscenced to soapbar, and went through at least 3 pressings, one or more
  385. of which may of been promos. all we've encountered so far are purple on
  386. one side and black on the other, tho it varies which is the printed a-side
  387. and blank b-side by pressing...
