I agree martin. I live in San Francisco and am completely torn apart by this. My wife and I cried most of yesterday. I do not even consider my self to be particularly "patriotic". I do not agree with many things our gov't has done. This was a hit against our people though. Innocent hard working people. I sit here still disbelieving what has happened, I think that it all must be a dream and I will soon wake up and the horror will be gone. But I regretfully realize that it is not a dream. It is inconceivable to believe that someone could harbor such hate towards the U.S. to feel such an act is justifiable. I am worried about the blood-lust that seems to be the attitude of many of us. Not saying that I do not believe that the persons responsible for these acts should not be dealt with extreme prejudice, but I am hoping that in an effort to act fast we do not make snap judgments and cause harm to more innocent people than have already been affected. I've been searching for volunteer organizations that are taking helpers because I don't want to show up there and just be in the way. I wanted to go to jersey last night but i know that it would have been really difficult to get over there since what happened. And Juliani said that they have plenty of volunteers over there and if they need any it would be later this week. Maybe I feel this way because I know I'm going to be working out of Manhattan when I get my degree and I want to understand what is happening. I don't know. I signed up with disaster relief with red cross here and we're on call and I'm taking disaster training courses but I feel like a pathetic passive sympathizer/emphatizer because I want to do something right now. I saw my first case of racism due to this yesterday at the gas station with a friend of mine when an arabic guy walked in to pay for his gas. He was agreeing with two people that were talking about the increase in gas prices and they just gave him really dirty looks and resumed with their conversation. There is a large Arabic and Arab-American community very close to Detroit in a city called Dearborn. It is supposed to be one of the largest communities of Arabic immigrants in the United States. I know there is going to be a lot of problems here when the wrong things could be said at the heat of the moment. A lot of the Arabic people that moved here as refugees and they just want to live peacefully. Yesterday there were bomb threats at wayne state and some psycho threatening to kill everyone in the office that I work in. I sincerely hope that everybody is all OK and if you see anything suspicious or wierd please say something.
