here's the deal.  i'm in the middle of an argument
with a guy online right now who says Moby no longer
DJ's.  here is what he says:

"Well I HAVE read interviews and he has NEVER said
anything about being on decks. Now, maybe one point in
time(a hell of a lot longer than 99) he may have spun
on decks. However, now all he does is live PA, as long
as he's booked under "moby"."

i'm convinced this isn't true though.  doesn't moby
still do dj'ing gigs as well as live performances?

right now he's promoting play, though he has done
his one off dj performances (xmas rave, 1999) and
still frequents when he can.  i think he's just
put dj-ing on hold while he creates and performs
his music.  though if someone asked him nicely.

what master of beats could be without the Wheels of Steel
as my man Dj Pagan said he did the Xmas rave in ... Dallas  i think in 1999
ohh Also he did a set at Woodstock 99 which was Djing
and also performed on WBCN for about 20 min. Djing ( I have this on MP
tres )
He also peformed in "Crobar" ( Club that is ) in Miami 2000 which included a
DJ Set as well as a live performance cool thing huh?

If I remember correctly, the last I remember hearing about
Moby dj-ing was right after PLAY was released, he did a
number of club dates around promotional appearances before
the tour started with the live band.

Subject: (mobility) Grammys, Sifl&Olly + rant

I missed the Grammy's, except for Eminem w/Elton - something I still am not sure how to feel about, though I didn't like Elton's style of singing on that (it's coming out as a single though - some proceeds go to MusiCares).
But I've heard Moby's performance on a crackly MP3 & he did sound a bit drowned out.  Anyway, he's more there for the music then right?  In everyone's comments of him on that night, it just reassures me that there's still a glimpse of humility in him.  I just wanna hug him!

Anyway, I also just heard a Sifl & Olly song which is about cats & dogs & cars & trucks & chicks & dudes & monkeys & 10-speeds (they couldn't decide what to sing about).  Well, to make this Moby related, as the song starts, the background beats are all "Southside" which cracked me up!  Then, of course, they add in their signature Casio melodies into it which made it funnier.

Thanks Rob for that collage, haven't looked at any Moby related art work for a while so that was nice.
And as for that guy's argument for Moby not doing any DJ gigs cause he doesn't mention it in interviews?  He usually has to cover the basics in interviews which is the same old thing about MobyDick & his background.  Either way, there's always gonna be TONS he doesn't talk about.  Sheesh...

Sorry if this debate is a little old now, but I've been pretty tied up over
the last few weeks. Here's what I think:

As far back as 'Go' Moby has realized the importance of money in helping him
create his art. He employed two management companies to deal with the
finances so he didn't have to worry. As a result teams of people have worked
on his behalf to ensure that he earns well from his music. They have also
ensured that he hasn't become caught up in unfavorable deals with record
companies.
Now I don't think that this is corruption, but I do think its clever. Moby
knows that suffering for your art isn't all it's cracked up to be. And
maybe, as a result of his comfortable income he is more able to give out
that music and happiness to the world. Sure beats working at Macdonalds!
