Well, Steve, I'm trying to put together a collection of all the
remixes off of Everything Is Wrong, and there are only a few that I'm
missing. They are:
Move (DJ Kid Paul Mix)
Move (Electro Mix)
Everytime You Touch Me (Mijk van Dijk Microglobe Mix)
All That I Need Is To Be Loved (Flashin' Dub)
All That I Need Is To Be Loved (Melodic Mix)
Care to help me out with those? I'd take vinyl or CD. Much appreciated!

Subject: (mobility) Fractal zoom review again in plain text format
This is the actual review as got sent out a 1.5 year ago on Mobility,
I've replaced the html layout with plain text, some people were getting
really weird e-mails...
=================================================
Hello everybody!
The next couple of days I'm going to write some reviews of remixes Moby did
for other artists.
Moby did so many remixes for so many artists over the last couple of years,
so I'm going to
review the ones that I have in my collection. I've bought them very
recently. So the great thing is,
I think all of these remixes are still available, no obscure limited promo
12" remixes or stuff like
that. No, just (I think) not so widely known remixes that you can order at
your favourite record
shop or the internet.
Oh, the _??_ indicates that I have no idea whether they're still
available...(mostly the 12" versions)
So, here goes.....
Let's start with the, in my opinion, best Moby remixes I have: the Fractal
Zoom remixes.
Available as: FRACTAL ZOOM [Brian Eno, 1992] US CD, Opal/Warner Bros, 9
40539-2
?? FRACTAL ZOOM [Brian Eno, 1992] UK 12", Opal/WEA, W0116T
?? FRACTAL ZOOM [Brian Eno, 1992] US 12", WEA, 9-40539-0
The CD has 12 tracks of which 7 are moby remixes(!) The first Moby mix is
track 2, the
[Mary's Birthday Edit 3:49] It's the most commercial mix on the disc. It
starts off with a nice bright
piano tune. Then after about one measure the beat, bassline, synths, and
little bongo drums like the ones used in ATINITBL (melodic mix) all together
kick in, before you've had a chance to get familiar
with the piano tune. Then also too soon, the sampled voices start to sing.
These are the main reasons why I like the full version on track 12 [Mary's
Birthday Mix 7:07] better.
The vocals are not like the original vocoder-deformed, but are normally
sung, which goes best with this mix I think. It is a very "rich" mix, rich
in samples and in different instruments. My general description
of the mix would be that it has the moody, atmospheric feeling of Go
combined with the bright piano sound of Next Is The E.
The next mix is on track 3, the [Up River mix 8:07] It starts with ambient
synths and vocoder
vocals, then after about 30 secs there's a bongo drum solo and then the beat
starts. The whole
mix has a typical Voodoo Child sound. I think this is due to the fact that
this mix includes
exactly the same synth-sample Moby uses at the start of his song Voodoo
Child [Poor In NY Mix]
Track 6 is the [Naive Mix I 5:24] Very atmospheric melodic trance with the
same strings Moby uses
in Go. Moby kept the original vocoder vocals in this mix, which gives it a
dreamy tone. This mix also
includes the same bongo drum sound as the mixes above, only with a bit more
reverb. The mix has
no hi-hats or other drums besides the bongo and the beat, which makes it
repetitive melodic trance
that I can only compare with the melodic mix of ATINITBL I mentioned before.
A great mix for the "sun
peaking over the hills in the middle of summer" kind of mood!
Track 8: [Naive Mix II 5:55] Unlike the Naive Mix I this mix starts with
hi-hats, all sorts of drums a
bassline and a beat. A creepy sounding synth in the beginning sets the tone
for the rest of the mix.
I think this mix is called Naive Mix II, because it includes some samples
that are also used in Mix I.
This mix is more for the "dark, threatening clouds moving over the city"
kind of mood....
And now for the strangest mix on the CD: track 9 [Landed Mix 5:50] This is
'wallpaper music' the pu-
rest form of ambient. A base of a dark, low synth carpet, from which every
now and then bubbles of
sound emerge. A very abstract description, but I know no other way to put
it....really weird. It's the
type of music that, when you walk into a room, you don't really hear. But
when it suddenly stops you
think it's awfully quiet.........like I said, weird......
Then comes the [Bucolic Mix 4:44] on track 10. Also ambient music with
bubbles of sound emerging
from a low synth carpet, but louder and with more sounds. There's a bright
piano twinkle on the back-ground and some sampled vocals (no vocoder). After
about 4 minutes the track slowly starts to die
away into silence. A nice mix.
The last track (12) is the [Mary's Birthday Mix 7:07] which is the same as
the edited version on track 2, but has more of a structure. It slowly
evolves, rather than the edited version, where you get thrown into
a porridge of all the instruments and vocals at once. I love this mix!

Subject: (mobility) more reviews from the past
Again, the original review as it was written a year ago:
==========================================
Hello everybody,
This is the second part of the reviews of remixes that Moby did for other
artists.
Moby did so many remixes for so many artists over the last couple of years,
so I'm going to
review the ones that I have in my collection. I've bought them very
recently. So the great thing is,
I think all of these remixes are still available, no obscure limited promo
12" remixes or stuff like

your favourite record
shop or on the internet.
Oh, the _??_ indicates that I have no idea whether they're still
available...(mostly the 12" versions)
Here are some reviews of remixes Moby did for Blur (Beetlebum) and OMD
(Souvenir):
BUSTIN' + DROWNIN' [Blur, 1998] JP CD, Toshiba-EMI, TOCP-50444-5
Bustin' + Drownin' is a whole album, but I bought it just because of the ONE
Moby remix that is
on it: Track 4 Beetlebum [Moby's Mix 6:42] I'm sorry, I can't compare
this mix with the one on
the Beetlebum CD single (UK CD, Parlophone, 7243 8 84656 25) because the
record company
marked it as deleted.... Does anybody know where (and if) I can order it on
the internet? (www.ab-cd.com perhaps?)
The song starts with a slow drum rhythm and a soft hi-hat. Then Damon Albarn
(the singer) starts to
sing "nothing is wrong, she turns me on" Then, very warm and moody synths
slide in (if you have a
MIDI composing program and a decent sound card try to play some low chords
with the instrument "warm pad" ---> That's the kind of synth moby uses...)
Soon the layer of synths start to get thicker
and thicker, getting more harmonic. In the meanwhile a hip hop beat gets
added to the drum rhythm
creating a beat like in Time's Up by The Brotherhood. Then when all
instruments come to a climax,
the song falls apart leaving only some deformed voices and after a few
seconds the beat with a new
rap sample (a heavy voice saying: "wanna get into tha..") Then some techno
synth is added giving
the song a comlpete different sound. Now we hear a sample of Damon Albarn
singing "..make you come" and the tension is rising. Then the beat stops,
the warm synths are back again and the song
procedes in full harmonic strenght for about one minute. At the end of the
song everything stops
except Damon Albarn's sampled voice (nothing is wrong..etc.). It continues
singing for about 40 seconds. It gives you the chance to get used to the
fact that this wonderful Moby's mix of Beetle-
bum is really over...........
WARNING: when listening [Moby's Mix] set your CD player on REPEAT 1!
Whatever you do, don't allow the CD player to go to track 5 after playing
the Moby Mix!
Track 5 starts with the MOST HORRIBLE sounds that have ever been recorded!
It would only spoil your great Moby experience of track 4...
Sorry I got carried away like this, but the Moby's Mix of Beetlebum is
together with Mary's Birthday
Mix on Brian Eno's Fractal Zoom my most favourite Moby remix he did for
another artist.
THE OMD REMIXES [Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, 1998] UK(?) CD, Virgin,
VSCDT 1694
?? (there's probably also a 12" version of this single, I have no info about
that...)
This CD has 3 tracks including one Moby remix on track 2.
Souvenir [Moby Remix 4:40] is the most recent Moby remix I have. It has the
new Moby sound like
in Honey and Run On --> a nice hip hop beat and piano's. The piano in this
mix is not the same as
in Honey though... It's a bright piano with a bit of echo in it, playing the
melody and not the chords
like in Honey. The Moby mix also includes (I think) the full vocals from the
original. My experience
with remixes by other artists is that if they decide to include the full
vocals, it often sounds horrible,
but with this mix by Moby they fit right in... This mix is also a good
example of what Moby once said about how he made Honey and Run On. He first
sought some a cappella vocals and then built a song around them. I think he
did the same with this mix. The Moby mix has a very melodic and a bit
com-mercial mid-'80s sound (I cant help thinking about Depeche Mode when I
hear it), but after 2:30 the
"End of Everything"-like synths come in and transform the song (apart from
the beat) into a sort of classical soundtrack.

I don't have the first three mixes, so I guess I lied when I said
everything. I'm damn close, though. There's some German 12"s that I never
found. I do have the ATINITBL 12", which has those two mixes on it. I
actually saw the guy who did the Flashin Dub a few years ago at a rave.
Eddie Fawkes, I think his name was. I'm not really offering the records for
sale yet, just seeing what everybody is interested in. At that point, I'll
hold an ebay auction, because naturally I want to get the most for them that
I can. :)
Anyways, here's a list of the bastard things. There's some missing, since I

GREAT SCOTT! MOBY AND JILL SET FOR WHALE OF A TIME
MOBY is to perform with JILL SCOTT while SHERYL CROW
will duet with SHELBY LYNNE at the GRAMMY awards in
LOS ANGELES STAPLES CENTRE on February 21.
Along with Macy Gray, they will join the growing list
of performers at the American music world equivalent
of the Oscars, which includes the controversial
pairing of Elton John and Eminem, which has sparked
outrage from gay rights groups.
They join a line-up which includes Madonna, U2,
Christina Aguilera, Destiny's Child, Faith Hill, *N
Sync and Dolly Parton.
Gray's 'I Try' is nominated in the Record and Song of
the Year categories, as well as Best Female Vocal Pop
Performance. Crow is up for Best Pop Collaboration
With Vocals, Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and
Best Country Collaboration With Vocals awards, for
tracks from her 'Live From Central Park' album.
Scott is nominated in Best New Artist, Best R&B Album
and Best R&B Vocal Performance.
New names added to the list of presenters include Tony
Bennett, Carson Daly, Gloria Estefan, Vince Gill, Joni
Mitchell and Sisqo.
Meanwhile, the Grammys Academy President Michael
Greene and Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation
(GLAAD) Executive Director Joan M. Garry are to take
part in a debate on the subject of "Intolerance In
Music" the day before the Awards.
GLAAD are among the most outspoken protesters against
Eminem's inclusion on the bill of performers at the
Awards, slamming what they claim are misogynistic and
homophobic lyrics.
The debate at the Mark Taper Auditorium in Los Angeles
County Library in downtown LA on February 20 will also
involve youth activists, members of gay/straight
alliances, record producers and artists, who will
discuss controversial artists whose lyrics have been
called extreme, homophobic and misogynistic, according
to a press release on the official Grammys website,
www.grammys.com.
Because everyone will ask "Who Is Jill Scott?"
(coincidentally the title of her album ;) she's a soul
singer from Philadelphia, she wrote the song "You Got
Me" by the Roots, and sang on the live version of it,
but the album version was sung by Erykah Badu, and she
has nothing in the world to do with Moby, so what the
fuck?
Whatever, it should be interesting. More interesting
than Eminem and Elton John? well, maybe not, we'll
see. ;P

Jill Scott is on near constant rotation on M2. Love the
video... "A Long Walk". I assuming she'll be singing
"Natural Blues" with Moby's accompaniment. Which I think is
just fab.

jill scott is one of *thee* premier hip-hop
lyricists out there today. i would argue the
best female lyricist, perhaps even the best
lyricist of them all. her lyrics follow her
flow, half sung, half spoken, all true to form.
what does she have to do with moby? the question
should be what doesn't she have to do with moby?
