Hey Joshua.... your best bet is a box set that the
Australian office of Elektra Records released of Moby's 3
full-length cd's for that label. You can get Everything is
Wrong, Animal Rights (the superior 12-song ROW version), and
I Like To Score all in one box for about $25 American.
That's the best deal going, in my opinion.

Funny how people's tastes differ because I think Maddy's "Music" absolutely
SUCKS.
I really liked "Ray Of Light" and as good as I think that CD is is as bad
as I think "Music" is. "Like A Prayer" is another Madonna CD that's
withstood the test of time, a much more mature songwriting growth on that
CD. You're right though, her earlier stuff has NOT withstood the test of
time, most of it sounds very outdated and cheesy.
As for Moby "Play" is absolutely my favorite but "Everything Is Wrong",
"Animal Rights" and "End Of Everything" are all pretty close as well.

This has nothing to do with Moby but going over the insert for my Faithless
"Back To Mine" CD yesterday I noticed the liner notes were written by
Martin James. I assume this is you? May I just say your little essay in the
booklet so sums up how I feel about Faithless, it is a great piece of
writing summing up why that band is so special.
Faithless will be releasing a new CD next year, God how I wish if Moby's
Mobypalooza thing happens he would include Faithless as one of the acts.
They are an amazing live act and so much of America just doesn't know about
them.
Just wanted to give credit Martin,by basing the writing around SOUL you
summed up so much of what that band is about. Great stuff.

Thanks Mike. I actually worked for the company that produced that album
(DMC) on their magazines (7 and Mixer) until last week. Let's just say we
had a disagreement about my other writing - ie the Moby book! - so I left.
But in the time I was their it was my honor to be involved in the Back to
Mine series - especially the Faithless album which features many of my all
time favorite tracks.

(((The phrase was chosen for its sound and that he does not even know what

not really related to the words, but its about that song anyway. A few
weeks ago i was tutoring one of my little brothers friends in french, and
that week i was listening to play like crazy. When my weakness came on the
girl goes "you know what this reminds me of?" and i said "what?" and she
said "reincarnation, i bet that's what reincarnation is like." now evertime
i hear that song, i think of that.
i think someone on this list asked for live mp3s? I've got some from a show
in december in scotland, some obermann, and some reverb. If anyone needs
any of those i can let you know my napster name, or possibly send you some
through aol instant messenger if you prefer.
last night i was having a hard time sleeping so i turned on mtv and they
were having a thing on the worlds most expensive videos. towards the end
they were showing videos that were shot on low budgets and they showed the
version of bodyrock with the auditions. it was kind of funny cos they were
like "the band moby from the uk...blahblahblah" oh. also a few days ago i
was watching vh1 and they had a commercial for their at work radio station,
and when it was going through the list of hosts, i heard moby say his name.
did anyone happen to catch it? im curious to know what it was like

Other info: i'm really interested in the technical stuff about moby. I have

Subject: (mobility) Info about Moby's guitars
Hey all,
I've been very interested in Moby's guitars lately. On the Everything is
Wrong album, he says that he uses an Ibanez, on a chat shortly after the
release of Animal Rights he said that his choice of guitars was "my 15-year
old Ibanez. It barely works." But recently, the pictures I've seen have
shown him with different guitars. Carvin says he uses their guitars (I
don't know what kind) and in a picture that I found on the moby.org page, I
saw him holding a Jackson stat copy with and Ibanez type head stock.
Hey, any info on this would be much appreciated.
Thanx,

Age: 16
Info: hmm...I dropped out of school when i was 14, got my GED a few months
ago, am taking the SAT in a couple weeks, and plan to go to college, at some
point. right now i'm working as a grill cook at a "Friendly's" Restaurant.
(my job BLOWS) but i make a fair amount of money and have been applying
other places. I'm into music, computers, food, people, travel, etc etc
um..hmm...Moby Collection: Play, Play B-sides, Everything is Wrong, Animal
Rights, Ambient (oh! and i saw Moby in Oct. that's actually when i started
liking him. i got in the show for free, (knew some of the right people) and
the concert was so amazing that i went out and started buying his CDs, one
by one :-)
Other musical interests: Sublime (my very favorite band), Weezer, 311,
lately i've been listening to quite a bit of techno, i used to be really
into ska, still like it. i like lots of random "alternative" bands, rap,
metal, basically lots of everything (but i don't by any means like
everything, i'm very picky :P )
oh, i also sortof play the guitar (i used to take lessons with an old shitty
loaner acoustic guitar) but i recently ordered an electric guitar and should
have it in a couple weeks. i'm SO excited! i'm going to start up lessons
again. i also can play piano decently, although i quit taking lessons about
a year ago. (another note: played banjo for about 2 years, not too long
after, forgot every single song i learned on it. it's a shame, really.)
but enough about me. anyone else wanna speak up?

Subject: (mobility) SOUTHSIDE - in Moby's own words
I noticed that moby posted this this morning on moby-online.com under "moby
updates" so in case you guys haven't seen it yet, here's what he had to say:
'Southside'
1/12/01 - New York City
OK, here is what the song 'Southside' is actually about....
The destructive impact of internally maintained currency controls especially
compared and contrasted with the stated policy guidelines of the
international monetary foundation. Not to mention the lack of transparency
endemic within most exchange rate organizations.
And 'Southside' is actually an anagram for:
Seven
Old
Undertakers
Tried
Hashish
Secretly
In
Developing
Economies
OK. I'm making all of this up.
But 'Elan' is a real word. Kind of like 'esprit de corps'. Or so I believe.
Perhaps I had an English teacher who was just making up words to confuse us.
In all honesty, 'Southside' is sort of about a possible world wherein death
and destruction are so commonplace that people approach their own mortality
with complete nonchalance. And 'Southside' would be a kind of anthem for
these nonchalant kids driving around on a friday night, hoping to stay alive
but not really caring.
And that's the truth. Really, I swear.
