The first time I ever heard Moby was in '92, at a party in some shady loft.
Somebody was spinning one of the "Go" mixes, and I was thrilled by it. Later
that year, I got friendly with the guy who spun at that party, and he made
me a tape of some Moby stuff -- I think it was the "Mobility" EP & a couple
of other mixes. Fast forward to '95, when I start hearing/reading great
things about his new album. I said, "Hey wasn't that the DJ guy I liked?" So
I went & picked up "Everything Is Wrong", and I was hooked. I've been a huge
fan ever since. And I hope to stay one for quite some time.

Hey Matt,
<< Today I got some CD from Yahoo! Music in the mail... apparently I won some
sort of contest for this CD and it's prepared only for this occasion or
whatever. Does this mean anything to anyone? >>
If this a yellow CD, I received it as a freebie during Moby's show at the
Hammerstein in NYC. We were fortunate to be surrounded by nice people who
shared a whole box with anyone in their immediate vicinity. I've enjoyed it
immensely, especially the "Whispering Wind" track (nice on repeat)...probably
more so because I will always associate it with that night and the
experience, which will glow in my memory for sometime. .... E
Hey Jen.....(hearing Feeling So Real for the first time is definitely one
of the most powerful and beautiful moments of my life to date)...me too
Jen...and the first time I heard Moby I am sure I didnt even know his
name...I recognize so much pre-Play material that I heard with friends or in
clubs,(a friend played me a wide selection of his music, mostly Everything is
Wrong over the phone, long distance during late nights) but never pursued or
attempted to purchase....but the first time I heard Moby, and was aware that
it was he of that name, was Rock the Body on the radio....I would not have
purchased the album based on that one song, but I downloaded some older
tracks online, and I bought Play on impulse shortly after. I have been
listening to it quite intensely for months and the whole experience prompted
me to see him twice in six months this year. Thanks for asking....E

First time I ever heard Moby?
I was (and still am) a big fan of Natalie Portman. I was reading an article one day about 6 months ago about her going to see Moby at a club. She got busted for using a fake ID and Moby came out and said that he wouldn't play unless she got in. They let her in and he continued his set. The next day I heard Porcelain, and bought Play. In the following weeks I got, I like to score, and Everything is wrong.

as to groove, i saw it when it was out in the theaters, and while i don't
rave much, it seemed to be a pretty good look at the scene, as much as i
know about it. i certainly have never been to a rave in frisco, and scenes
are different in different cities, but w/ever. its a movie, and it relies
more on plot than total accuracy, i guess is a good way to put it. as to
plot, well, its actually kinda thin. but it was a good moive. there were
compensations for thin plot. watching it was sort of like taking place in a
really big party...i don't know how else to describe it. not sure which
other movie you were referring to that was a "better representation" of the
scene or whatnot...not too many movies on this wavelength...i'd say buy it.
the dvd looks like it has some really neat features
my first moby experience (irony coming) was when the james bond theme came
out. remember that? kinda like play, in that people heard it and were
suddenly moby fans without knowing anything about his music. i found eiw in
my local public library and took it out and listened to it and was shocked.
literally. the closest experience i'd had to techno before then was the
propellerheads disc (great party music, not too deep...) and i think
everything is wrong became for me the ur-techno, the album against which
all other electronic music is based, though i think it may have been
replaced by dubnobasswithmyheadman by underworld
(ifyouhavenotheardthis,pleasedo!)
so, yeah. just to contribute again after a long absence,
ian

You are an extremely lucky fan then, do yourself a favor and make it a
point NEVER to listen to that God-awful piece of crap. Worst thing I've
ever heard Moby be associated with, Kelis is your typical modern day R&B
bimbo. "Get yo ass out on da floor" has NO place in a Moby song. I'm
surprised she didn't throw in a "wave your hands in the air and wave em
like you just don't care" for good measure too. It sucks trust me.

RE: Off TopicI saw the film last week. It is not very good. The acting =
is insufferable and the screenplay/storyline is pretty much =
non-existent. I watched it because I have never been to a rave and was =
curious. I kept thinking that if this movie depicts what it's really =
like, you poor kids! How awfully boring! No wonder everyone seemed to =
need chemical assistance to have a good time. The soundtrack wasn't =
even up to snuff in my estimation. A brief glimpse of Mr. Digweed for 2 =
minutes at the end might excite some fans. No stars for this motion =
picture. Anne
