How was this article propaganda?  It wasn't even government supported, it
quoted a professor at Columbia University.  Perhaps they receive federal or
state funding, but you're jumping to the paranoid conclusion that somehow
he's a government minion spreading misinformation.

How's this?  The article directly pointed out that very few actual deaths
have been associated with its use, that research has been scarce, "until
recently" and that the long-term effects are still unsure.  It never rallied
against the drug, was reasonable and preserved scientific integrity.

Oh thank you for YOUR scientific delcaration, I'm sure that YOUR studies in
addition to being above reproach are well documented and have taken you
years to complete, right?  Drugs which require a high dosage for death or
coma, like asparin and marijuana can still be harmful, many deaths have been
associated with asparin, mainly suicide, but it is still possible.  If THC
was concentrated enough and refined enough it could be fatal.

How is this sensationalism?  It was the Washington Post, an article that was
no where near page one, associated with no graphs, pictures or big news, at
best it was a side bar article, filler.

First, I think you are misusing the word "blasphemous".  Second, the article
sites research to show that cognative and memory functions are impaired,
only to what degree is in question.

Breakthroughs?  A bunch of club kids taking illicit drugs has given us
psychological breakthroughs?  Perhaps they've found a cure for mental
illness or depression.  Maybe they've written a treastise on childhood
developement that I'm unaware of.  I'm sure that the scientific community
would welcome their assitance in scientific inquiry.

First off, it has been used since it was originally developed in Germany in
1912, certainly enough time and cases to at least make educated guesses.
Besides, long-term effects of drugs are usually studied in short time
periods using mathematical models and projections which can be refined to
give a pretty good idea of actual effects.

Hmmm, I never said I was ASTOUNDED, I said it was INTERESTING.  I also
wasn't talking about the drug's safety in the final article, I was merely
pointing out other parts that I thought were interesting.  As for the price,
since it is black market, it can vary GREATLY.  Another individual said that
he never saw it over $15 per pill, you're estimate was double that.  The
article said pills CAN GO FOR AS MUCH as $50, not that that was the average
market price.  Move away from the major cities and into rural areas and I'm
sure that the added cost and risk of trafficking would easily drive the
price up further.

And finally, I didn't post the article because I'm some big anti-drug fuck,
infact I'm an objectivist and don't believe that the government has any
right to regulate our personal decisions, as such don't support many drug
regulations and WOULD support the legalization of many drugs.  HOWEVER as a
personal decision I would never actively use "recreational" drugs, tobacco
and alcohol included.  I don't understand some people's need to do so, its a
filthy practice used by many people who are unstable or are unable to be
content with the world around them.

I never been to one of his shows, but to be honest with you, i think he got
alot of energy on stage. I watched the rolling rock festival. i would like
to know what drugs he uses to give him all that energy. when go played he
was climing up to the top of the stage support beams, and when honey played
he was jumping all over the place, he is also and excellent drummer.

So, I've been hearing MOBY everywhere on TV and Radio lately...its actually
gotten to the point where I hear a commercial on the TV (and I am not
actively watching) and I cannot place the song...I know it, I know it
well...like one of those jingles that gets in your head (i.e. Joy of
Cola-Pepsico)...Nordstrom commericials, music backing for local news
stories...he's everywhere...which is cool, but which makes me hope even more
that when he performs at Red Rocks next month he plays something off of
Animal Rights...it ought to shock a few people....
Remix of 1979 (Smashing Pumpkins). I really like this remix, I just heard it
for the first time. I liked the original song alright, but the remix adds a
new flare to it.
As for other Moby biz, the local Tower records has a bunch of next is the e
and Go singles (sorry if I said this before)...now I was wondering if anyone
ever found out if there was a wide Re-issuing by Instinct in the US or what?
I've only seen these two singles, but seen a lot of them.

OFF MOBY TOPIC STARTS NOW:
Ecstacy...I don't know whether or not this or any other illegal drug should
be legalized, its certainly a hot issue...but as I was surfing I found this
about ecstacy:

benign drug. In fact, all of the studies conducted to date in both animals
and more recently in humans, confirm that club drugs, particularly MDMA, are
not harmless "fun party drugs." While users of club drugs may think they're
taking them simply for energy to keep on dancing or partying, research shows
these drugs can have long-lasting negative effects on the brain that can
alter memory function and motor skills."
"We are now beginning to see signs that MDMA has the ability to impair one's
cognitive abilities as well. Several findings, including those recently
reported in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, found
that when MDMA users who also occasionally used marijuana were given a
battery of performance tests. They fared significantly worse on some
components when compared to either marijuana users or non-drug users.
Participants were tested for attention, memory and learning, frontal lobe
function and general intelligence. In general, MDMA users, had poorer
performance results in three general intelligence tests, they also required
more repetitions to learn a word than both the marijuana and the non-drug
users, and when compared to the non-drug users had poorer short-term memory
performance. The researchers concluded that MDMA use over a period of months
or a few years may cause long-term impairment of cognitive performance even
when MDMA is taken in relatively small doses."
This was in a statement by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (yes it is a
US Government organization) to the US Senate. Now by posting this I am not
advocating what it is saying...I have just found evidence like this, not to
the contrary...with this or marijuana (except from pro-legalization
outlets). Making an informed judgement is what is important...I honestly
don't care if one chooses to use the drug...as long as they do so
responsibly and don't go out and drive or something like that...
I can see that there may not be many direct deaths related to marijuana or
ecstacy use...but just as with Alcohol and such...many of the deaths are
caused by car accidents...I've personally known many people involved in
various car accidents because they had toked up before driving or while
driving...physically harmful or not...they are mind altering drugs...like
alcohol and should be used with caution...like alcohol.

At best no one can change anothers opinion, but one can help another to be
informed. I am not advocating using, not using, legalizing, not legalizing,
just adding to the discourse...

This is pretty strange, but for those of you with Nokia digital cellular
phones, you can now have your phone play a snippet of moby's porcelain every
time it rings.  Just go to http://yourmobile.com and you can select from
about 150 songs.  I think the Moby one sucked quite honestly.  But there are
others to choose from, who wouldn't want to be alerted of a call with the
Inspector Gadget theme song or Dueling Banjos????
