Hello,
Sombody please list the playlists for the new
"Gone in 60 Seconds" Soundtrack and
the "Best of Moby" cd that is featured on cdnow.com
I wrote to cdnow.com but they will not respond anytime soon.
Do the virgin record representatives know anything about these releases?
Thanks.

I thought Moby came off really well on the jo whiley show. Instead of
backing down when challenged by Armand he stood up for himself unlike a lot
of guests do.
I also thought he asked more interesting questions than jo w. like when he
asked Lene about feeling pissed off and having to sing Barbie Girl. It
opened up a whole new subject and was more interesting than some of jo's
stuff.

I can see both sides on the Napster debate. I undertand why an artist would
be pissed that entire CD's that can be commercially bought in stores are
out there for free download. Then again the way the record companies RAPE
you with the price of CD's is a counter argument to that. But I am the type
who HAS to own the official item if it is by an artist I collect, ie Moby,
Faithless, Pet Shop Boys, Prince, etc.
Even if it is a song on another artists CD that Moby just appears on, I
will buy the official item .
What I use Napster for is to get remixes I cannot find commercially
especially since they're import only or out of print. For instance I just
burned my first Lange CD with a bunch of full length remixes of his on
there. To buy all the official 12" vinyl those appeared on 99% of them
import, well you can imagine the cost. I have sampled and fell in love with
a BUNCH of new electronic music I otherwise never would have tried if not
for Napster. And if I like somebodys stuff enough I'll search out the CD.
Nothing for me replaces buying a CD the day it comes out. I can't wait for
next week to go down to the old record store and pick up the new Paul Van
Dyk CD. That will NEVER change for me and that is what all these record
companies think is people aren't buying CD's anymore downloading stuff free
instead and it just doesn't work that way. Sure some are but it is not the
majority. Many use Napster to sample new stuff or get rare stuff they
otherwise couldn't (like me).

I love Chuck D. I miss the good old days of rap before all this fake ass
"gangsta" shit took over. This gangsta rap shit is as pre packaged as the N
Sync, Backstreet Boys teenie pop bands are. I'd like to see any of these
phonies come up with something as brilliant as "Fear Of A Black Planet".
I'm curious how Prince will come out with Napster. He has become buddies
with Chuck D, they're both big on distributing stuff on the Net. I wish a
respected innovator like Prince would come out for Napster But he is so
paranoid over any penny coming out of his pocket, already suing fans in the
past over their Websites,
I can see him coming out against Napster to jump on the publicity
bandwagon.
Just curious as he is close with Chuck D now.

I've had this CD for months now and have yet to listen to it :) Only bought
it because of the BRILLIANT Ferry Corsten mix of "Adagio For Strings".
DESPITE having downloaded this track off Napster a month before release in
the US, yes I still purchased the entire CD just to get the official thing.
Imagine that? ;) Guess I need to get around to listening to the thing.

Speaking of festivals, did anyone else here manage to make it to any of the
3 days of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival? Not sure if there are any
other Michiganders on here. People travelled from all over the world for
this awesome event, a celebration of electronic music in the birthplace of
techno.
They were rather worried about the turnout but it was a SMASHING success.
It was PACKED every night, and it was a pretty awesome sight. Old people,
young kids, families, teens, black, white, you name it they were there. I
was amazed at the turnout. Monday night was the best, Derrick May spun for
2 hours then Plastikman took the stage to close it out. I never cared much
for what I heard of Richie Hawtin's work but he did his Decks and EFX set
and he was SLAMMING. Definately won me over and I got a cool sweatshirt
with his cool little logo on it too :)
Looking forward to this event for years to come and it would be SOOOO cool
if they got Moby to play here in a future year. I can only imagine what a
scene that would be, Moby rocking hundreds of thousands :)

The recording artists of America and other organizations have always
opposed piracy, even in the cassette days, only until recently with the
advent of high-speed internet access and compression standards such as mp3
has piracy REALLY gotten out of control in the US. It has always been a
hugh, institutionalized problem in asia for all media infact.
If you want to see the future of the music industry or film industry in
america, without proper intellectual property protection, just look at
Asia, specifically Taiwan, Southeast asian countries and mainland
China--their film and music industries are in shambles because of Triad
piracy--more than 90% of all media sales are pirates. For several
reasons, including lack of international treaty protection and lax
enforcement by authorties are to blame, reasons that haven't affected the
United States. THe federal government and our legal infulstructure
provides enough protection. mp3 and other formats, better technology and
the shear number and ease of piracy are making the US's traditional
enforcement obsolete. If each college kid with an ISDN hook up can host a
site that any one can access, its impossible to reasonably enforce IP
rights, either criminally or civilly.
Dr. Dre an other acts that are acting against napster and other piracy
tools have reason to fight for their creations. They have a right to
claim authorship and control over their works, regardless of how much
money they make, its THEIR property, and you ARE technically STEALING it.

you're really lucky that you got a chance to go ... i would've went [only living 30 minutes from detroit] but it was memorial day weekend and i had to visit my relatives in new york [and still am]. i'm glad the festival turned out to be a success... i heard about a million people showed up. oh well, i'm not too depressed that i didn't go cause moby wasn't there :) ... i totally agree, it'll be SO wonderful if he was there next year... it would be so perfect! he definitely needs to come to detroit more often.

Well, I have no downloaded any mp3s of his, or Metallicas or anyone else, Ive
only downloaded 1 mp3 in my whole life, which was the shaumgummi mp3, and I
HATE turning on the tv and HEARING on practically every station about
METALLICA and DR DRE and their lawsuits against napster. That's all I have to
say. I mean why do WE have to hear about it all the time?

I will ask again -
does anyone know where I can download, or just temporarily store some files
that would allow me to view some of Moby's videos? Come on you moby-ites out
there, I know you guys are hardcore fans. Don't be so lazy - someone just
please post an answer and I will be very happy and grateful.
