I just got back from seeing the the Kids in the Hall's live show, and
before they came on stage, they looped a silent video for about twenty
minutes. Anyway, during that time, they managed to play Bodyrock and
Porcelain. It was great because the crowd was so diverse, it was exposing
moby's music to so many new people. The show was absolutely wonderful
too....Just thought i'd share that.

What do you suggest then? We save all the money we make beyond our basic
means of living? To what end? At what point should we feel free to buy
products we need with our disposable/extra income? Perhaps you are of the
communist/socialist school of thought, please let me know; for if you are,
the discussion ends here.

A person who lives beyond their own means has no one to blame but
themselves, this includes people who have too many children. There is no
excuse, when we have extremely cheap, easy and readily available forms of
birth control. The only reason left would be in cases of rape/incest and
others, which are one, in the minority, and two, rectifiable by abortion(or
if your moral ethics prohibit, adoption). The only thing that keeps people
from controlling their own lives is stupidity and ignorance, especially
religous beliefs prohibiting such forms of control(ie catholocism). In
either case no one has the right to complain, they have dug their own grave.
Aside from the extreme examples where such suffering is completely
unwarrented, ie brought about directly by another individual, there SHOULD
be legal recourse.
> so a 10 year old child who has to raise her 4 year old brother while her

This is one of those examples I'm refering to. This is a form of child
neglect and they should be put into proper foster homes, or given up for
adoption(an intervention by the state).

My 1999 tax return states that I made approximately 8,200 US dollars.
Considerng that I work approximately 25 hours a week on average, go to
school, support myself almost completely, I would not consider myself rich.
And you sir, have absolutly no right to judge me or my personal finances.

You obviously don't understand the statement, materialism and mysticism are
at odds, any MYSTIC would certainly not be materialistic, since they believe
in the un-material.
> this sounds like a carl sagan quote, by the way. i think he would be less

It is certainly not a Carl Sagan quote, and because I am aware of his
philosophy and admire his devotion to reason. HOWEVER he never actually
applied this same rigorous rationality to his socio-political view, which is
unfortunate.
> to me, "materialism" is simply buying things you don't need because you

If you go with this definition of materialism then yes I would agree with
you. The purchase of consumer goods for its own sake is irrational.
Gaining the affection of others makes sense for those who are egotistically
weak enough to need it. The fact remains, however, that people EARN their
living. The decision of what to do with it, no matter how stupid or
wasteful, remains soley with them. Unless you advocate state sanctioned
theivery (ie the redistribution of wealth) and the implications that it
requires, freedom, especially economic rights, should prevail. It is
unfortunate that, even though the US is one of the most relatively free
societies and economies in the world, it continues socialistic policies and
the like.

I could give you an endless reading list as well, though I'm sure that you
will ignore it as readily as I have ignored yours. Cheers.

i'm sorry that i brought up the recent mega-debate here on moblilty. it's
not the place for me to try and change people's minds. i'm sorry to see
people leaving because of my frothing. i would hope that you could just
delete and move on. i DO feel strongly about what i've said, in part
because of what i've learned while on this very list. i'll try and keep
my opinions to myself from now on, and only talk about moby directly,
although i find less and less reason to.

Although I didn't really agree with your opinion and expressed this in a
note I sent here, I also don't like the fact that someone should be afraid
to express their opinion here for fear of upsetting people and people
leaving. If your opinion makes people leave that is their problem if they
can't deal with an opinion that differs from theirs. I'm glad you feel
strongly about what you said, even though I feel differently, and encourage
you to say what's on your mind in the future. It made for rather
interesting reading and beats the
"I Dream of Moby" shlock that sometimes permeates the list. Please don't
clam up over some oversensitive people who say they're leaving due to
someones opinion.
Just letting you know, I don't agree with you, but that's no reason for you
to not express what's on your mind.
Peace,
MikeA

Hey Xaq...
don't apologize for what you said.... or did. You
have a right to your opinions, as much as I may
or may not agree with them.
Your kind of questioning keeps us, well me
anyway, from being a bunch of sycophantic fan boy
wannabe's. Personally, I don't think Moby's
artistic credibility is damaged by doing things
like the CK ad. it's the same music he was
performing before he did the ad. He's just doing
his job, as he said.
But I think a dissenting voice in the crowd keeps
everyone honest. So please feel free to speak
whatever's on your mind.

Hey Mobilites!
I'm making a moby mix disc for a friend of mine
for his birthday, and I realized I have NONE of
the remixes for the "James Bond Theme." Somehow
I've neglected buying either the OZ or the UK
remix single. And, I noticed, there are none of
them posted to the ftp site.
Someone that has either or both remix singles,
you think you could encode them and post them for
all of us to enjoy, and as a loyal and dutiful
Moby fan, I swear to buy the remix single from
Mute after I make my next credit card payment.
Thanks!

First off, thanks a lot for making Roberrt (i think
his name was) leave this list. he is damn right, we
are NOT here to fight, we're here to admire Moby.
thats exactly why Clay left, and he was a great person
we all loved. I havented seen Kees post for a while,
so maybe he left. I'm sure thats also why RYU left
(even if Xaq hates him, lots of us loved him dearly).
WE ARE NOT HERE TO FIGHT. please, lets STOP this damn
bullshit and talk about Moby. for the record, you are
all right and yr opinions are all correct ;) sorry if
i'm always an optimist, but i hate arguing. so lets
drop this shit and talk about Moby!
OMIGOD!!!! Moby is already doing the new album!!!
yay!!!!
however, i'm wondering what this will sound like...
more R&B? that could be weird. i dont know what to
think.... but hey, whatever it is, it'll sound great,
hopefully. as long as its more Al Green and not like
jiggy R&B type stuff, we're safe. however, i do think
it would be nice if he did a bit more underground
stuff, just for old times sake. he does seem to be
mellowing. but thats not an entirely bad thing, i
think.
also, I was fundraising at WPKN, and Rod talked to me
about doing fillins for other DJs! since i have a
vacation week coming up, i might to the midnite-3hree
AM shift next Monday!!!
rrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and i guarantee, whenever my first show is, I'll play
a full HOUR of Moby tunes. yeah i know i should just
do all Moby for 1ne show but i need to show off all
the shit i like. so who knows what the hell i'll play
next.. i can not damn wait. this is gonna be gr8.
also, my show is gonna be called "CHESTER'S BLANKET
FORT" (guess where i got that title!) and its gonna be
fun.
bye!
ROCK!

When the TV was the babysitter, you're right. I
have no pity for the person who looks to a media
person as a role model when there are so many in
our communities today. When the media image gets
slashed, it's not me that deals with the hurt.

We are talking about Moby, just not in the
starstruck sense of it all. If someone wants to
leave because of it, then let them. It's
childish to leave on such grounds anyway, bottom
line. It's not that hard to hit the delete
button if you don't want to participate. No one
is fighting, we are discussing the views and
ideas of Moby and commercialism.
Peace.
