Got the Natural Blues REMIX CD today with the song "Sick In The System"
But, but.. Sick In The System, isn't that on the regular CD? Yep, I'll come
to
that later.
After all the praising about Whispering Wind I think the IMO much nicer
b-side
Sick In The System deserves some praising. The song starts off with some
1993 trancy sound and soon a breakbeat kicks in. It immediately reminds me
of No Buttons To Push, it's got that same squeeky sound (hard to describe..)
Soon the track transforms into a standard Play b-side with strings and
piano,
nothing special. But the reason why I like this track so much (and probably
why
a lot of people won't like it) is that Moby (probably unwittingly) used some
good
old cute elements in this song like that No Buttons sound, a chord
progression
very simular to a song on Little Idiot (can't remember which right now) and
the
beat falls a bit out of sync every now and then. 10 years of Moby music all
in this
4:18 song. My personal rating: 8.5 out of 10 (as a comparison: Whispering
Wind
"only" gets 7 out of 10, which in itself is not a bad score at all of
course)
SICK (2)
Oh.. yes, The NB REMIX single with Sick In The System.
Next week I will probably have proof, but I have strong suspicions Play It
Again
Sam (short: PIAS), Mute's distributor for the Benelux (Belgium, the
Netherlands and
Luxembourg) pulled a SICK trick on us Moby fans. I now have this CD in my
player:
NATURAL BLUES REMIX (11:34) [6 March 2000]
BE CD, Mute/PIAS, 391.1251.22
1 3:03 Natural Blues (Single Version)
2 4:18 Sick In The System
3 4:16 Natural Blues (Mike D Edit)
PIAS has been the distributor for Moby singles over here since James Bond
Theme
and never have they changed the track order on the original UK Mute
releases, UNTIL
NOW! Now in itself this is no problem, right? BUT, pias always also
releases a 2-track
version in cardbord cover of Moby's singles and I happened to see one today
and it
had the NB radio version on it and the Perfecto Remix, and a really scary
thought
began to dawn on me: I haven't seen it yet (I will next Tuesday) but my
guess is that the
regular CD will have these tracks:
- - NB (Single Version) [AGAIN!]
- - The Whispering Wind
- - NB (Peace Division Edit)
In other words PIAS is forcing us:
(1) in order to get all the mixes, to buy *3* singles (at a total of 40
Dutch Guilders, that's
about 17.50 US Dollars.
(2) to backorder the 2 UK CDs and have to wait a long time and paying more
per CD.
Anyhow, it's too late for me to get the UK ones, because I ordered both PIAS
CD-
maxi's at my local record store, meaning I HAVE to buy them. I don't know
what I
should do, get that damn 2-track or wait for the US release with the
Perfecto Mix.
But let this be a warning for those of you who want to get the regular Mute
UK CDs,
═'d suggest to order these from UK based stores to prevent you from a
disappointment.
I want to close this e-mail with a nice quote from 1983 by Jean Michel Jarre
about the
commercial marketing of the product called "Music":
"Music's not a tube of toothpaste, or a box of tissues, rather an original
painting,
and you also wouldn't load that into your shopping cart"
How ironic is the truth nowadays...

Matt says yes, I'm not sure, if we covered him in grease it probably
wouldn't help, but would turn me on.

simply the words, no guitar solo (maybe a real short
one) over and out. but thats just me. thats not in any
way a criticism, it rocked well. thanks again man!
