hmmm...it seems metal might be too strong a word to use for animal
rights.....i really see it as more old school punk influenced.....metal
conjusres up images of iron maiden and def leppard.....maybe metallica
though, since they were pretty influential in a lot of punk/
hardcore....just my opinion......but what is up with so many people not
appreciating moby's punk rock styling???

Not that MOBY isn't about the sexiest artist ever, but I don't think Playgirl
would ask him. But who knows...? My impression of that magazine is ureal
hunk boys who are way buff and way tan. They're just fantasy eye candy like
Playboy chicks. Does anybody really want someone who looks like a Ken doll or
a Barbie doll?

Dude, I think you just wrote one of those blurbs that they put in magazines. :-)
But really, I have listened to it all the way through, several times in fact and
the songs that speak the most (I think) are the instrumentals. They are by far
some of the most touching songs I've heard from MOBY. The "rock" songs are to me
(don't get offended) slightly imature, not in lyrics or effort but in sound. I
think that MOBY could really stand to work on developing "rock" songs with less
mindless thrash and more, I dunno, umph....? I think it's something he could work
on. But he does well in whatever he does and I might feel more about the album in
a few years but that's just how I feel about now. I don't think it's his best
work. I think that there isn't really a best but that each album is special and
that I Like to Score is a good showcase of what he can do.

I'm going to disagree. The rock songs with the heavy thrashings have
beautiful sounds in them, just layered in so you have to actively listen.. I
just can't listen to animal rights all that much because it is so sadly
depressing and would make me want to jump off a bridge.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with pornography, w/ buying it, w/
watching it, or with a man or a woman chosing to be in a porno book or movie.
I also don't think that all porn is disrespectful or w/o purpose.
If a woman chooses to be in a porn flick of her own free will, that's fine.
It's her body and I don't think anyone can tell her what to do w/ it. If she
enjoys sex and wants to make money at it, fine.
I don't see anything wrong w/ renting pornos. I think it can be fun,
theraputic and so much more. Not all porn is tastefull but there is porn out
there that I feel can be educational for couples and mind opening. And even if
you don't learn a new stroke from a video or some tolerance for other sexual
lifestyles then hey, maybe you get turned on and you and your lover can have a
good time.
Sex isn't the most important thing in the world but it certainly is important.
A human being needs food and water, shelter, selfconfidence and a healthy way
to express their sexuality. Porn can be a healthy way for someone to deal w/ a
sexual fear, feeling or just plain have something to wank to (which is
important).
Ok, I'm not sure if I'm making sense but that's how I feel. If you'll excuse
me, I'll be looking at Asia Carrera's web page. :-)

ok i never respond to anything on this list and i have
been on here about a year i think, i appreciate MOBY
fans more and this list more than any other because of
the fact that people who like MOBY just seem to know
more about music or different genres of music than
most people. we are required to be open to new sounds,
and that is why i love the people here, well, that and
the fact that this is the most knowledgeable group of
MOBY afficianados ever assembled and that MOBY himself
posts here.
a question, though: in my experience it seems that the
great divide between MOBY fans is a disagreement over
the pre-EIW music. I mean, everyone here seems to love
EIW unconditionally and if you loved the stuff before
it then you are such a MOBY fan that of course you
love everything since, but prior to EIW, it seems
there is a huge schism in the MOBY faithful. Anyone
else agree with this? Everyone makes a big deal about
AR as this record that put off MOBY's dance-purist
following, but i dont buy it. maybe it didnt recieve
the critical acclaim anticipated as a follow-up to
EIW, but who cares. The production on those guitars is
incredible, i have never heard anything like it. I
love AR, and i know several people who i let borrow it
who bought it just for the soft instrumental tracks,
which are fantastic too. Trying to define the
synthesis of anger in the roar of post-punk noise that
is AR's emotionally explosive tracks as any type of
metal just feels wrong to me. just my two cents. gbye.

Moby's art is a work in progress. As time goes
by, he is developing his style, his music,
whether there is a particular style or not. The
production techniques are getting better, the
right touch here or the right touch there is
getting better.
The first music that anyone heard of Moby
(mainstream anyway) is off of EIW. The album is
great (w/ the exception of What Love IMHO), and
flows together wonderfully. It really is a work
of art. We'll call this filet mignon.
Now we look at the ground chuck of stuff that
happened before. It's not bad stuff, nowhere
near bad, but it is less than par. We live in a
world where everything needs to be bigger,
better, faster, more. To throw ourselves back to
Moby's earlier stuff is hard, because it is less
refined.
Furthermore, much of those items were put out
without Moby's consent, or forced consent. I
think Ambient is a beautiful album, but Moby
didn't want to put it out. Instinct Records
screwed him over.
Finally, some of us can appreciate the roots of
where people come from. To not do this isn't
bad, it's just putting yourself on a less
personal level with Moby. Everything he does is
getting better. It's this difference that
divides the fans. You can see it in all fans of
a person with a hit records usually. Green Day
fans come to mind.

A lot of people did, apparently. I must admit
when I first picked up this album, I was shocked.
I didn't know it was going to be a punk album,
and I kept skipping through the tracks looking
for a dance track. I was almost mortified, then
cooled my senses listening to Little Idiot. :)
However, the album in retrospect is very good.
Well done, well... I don't have an ear for rock
music to make that assertion. However, I can
listen to it over and over and not get sick of
it, so that must count for something.
