I went to the show , It was great, he did a great version of revolver
(long jam at the end), a great acoustic version of feeling so real
(followed by a slamming version), he layed on the front row while
introducing his band (I got to hold him up for the second time this
summer). what else....hmmm...all together the best show I have been to.
Afterward I got to say hi to him and got a sig, and told him to come play
worcester (anyone out there from around there?), he said he would look
into it. Lo-fi-allstars weren't too shabby either.

Hey Paul, I don't think I was next to that girl, I was right at the stage

hey folks!!!!
thanks for all yr help with me and "Billy Budd". i got
cliff notes-type things from a site i found on a
Melville bulletin board and the site is at
www.pinkmonkey.com you can get all sorts of free cliff
notes and things there, its great. i understand the
book now.
anyway, i notice a few similiarities between Melville
and his great-nephew (or is it great-great-nephew?
doesnt matter, he's still great ;) Moby (who also has
the name "Melville" is his name)
it said in the cliffnotes (not really cliffnotes tho)
that Moby Dick was pure white, which symbolized evil,
or the complete lack of good. and of course in Billy
Budd there's Claggart who's also pure white, and pure
evil. and in the beginning, in chapter 1, it talks
about this African sailor, who is dark black, and it
says about he's the Handsome Sailor, and all these
other nice things about him. i thought that was
interesting, since moby seems to have a problem with
white muzik, as we all know, and how he seems to be a
bit immersed in black muzik, in some ways. know what i
mean?
also, go to www.melville.org and tell me that doesnt
look a bit similar to www.moby.org . coincidence? I
THINK NOT!!!! they even have their own list, Ishmail
(lol!) they have a cleverer name than we do ;)!
also......
WHAT DAY IS TODAY?
IT'S TRIBBLE'S BIRTHDAY!
WHAT A DAY FOR A BIRTHDAY!

yes, Tribble the guinea pig is now 4our years old. Yr

Yeah the towson show on thanksgiving day was awesome, incase anybody went
and remembers, i was the girl who was holding up moby's microphone while
he signed my ticket stub on stage, but now i regret doing that because he
does way too much for his fans (he gave one of his only two shirts he
said he uses while on tour to a girl who was begging for it). i've been
to many other concerts, but this would have to be the best one, i even
met duard before the show. didn't know he was south african, we talked
about books and other random things- he's really nice as well. i hope
moby comes around again, and what was this engage show in d.c. i keep
hearing about?
by the way, the crowd wasn't a fraction as responsive to the low fidelity
allstars as they were to moby, they left on their tour bus right after
their set was over.

Hello Mobility,
I was wondering if anyone got a hold of the
Porcelain single that was supposed to be coming
out. In fact, I didn't see Moby mention anything
about it in one of his little updates. Perhaps
he would be nice enough to clear it up.
Everywhere I've searched has come up nil.
Also, did the Ltd. Ed. Play come yet for the
person who ordered it, and what's so special
about it, huh? :)
On a side note, we should make a list of
questions to send to Moby to see if he'll answer
them. Things like "Is there a Porcelain single?"
and "What is your favorite show thus far on the
tour?" I know the dirtylist does this
occasionally, and it's kind of neat to read their
answers. I also accept that Moby is decidely
busy right now with touring, so I don't expect
anything.
Good day, all.

Hello Mobility!
Yep, more Moby CDs enter the fray.
Feeling So Real (Int'l #1)
- Just for the 7" mix.
Everytime You Touch Me (Int'l #1)
- Just for the 7" mix again. This one
sounds a lot like the 12" mix.
Demons/Horses
- You do a little searching on the web,
and you can get your grubby hands on
anything. This CD is twisted, to say
the least. Very repetitious, very
hypnotic.
Sugar Baby
- Ditto from above, except this is much
more housy than the VC disc. Nice to
have in my collection, but nothing I
would willingly write home about.
Natural Blues #1
- The Deep Dish and Paul Oakenfold
mixes. One's kind of hard house and
the other is decidely trance. And if
you believe I actually have this, I
have some oceanfront property to sell
you in Wisconsin. :)
A cruel, cruel joke, I know.

From: Mark Reed <mar@markgenius1.demon.co.uk>
Subject: (mobility) Chemical Brothers + Stadium House (review of Brum show)
Stadium Rave or The Art of Rhythm - Chemical World with Chemical
Brothers Birmingham 30-11-99
The musician takes the stage. Surrounded by video screens, alone for the
beginning of this encore, his hair backlit so he appears to have a
massive halo, he tweaks feedback from his instrument as the crowd roars.
Endlessly looping his sound, he raises his hands and the crowd screams
back as he teases the crowd with excerpts from the hits. This isn't
Bryan Adams. This isn't Guns N Roses. It's the Chemical Brothers. We're
all brothers. We're all sisters. We can only achieve the one world
brotherhood through Chemicals. We all need chemicals to enjoy this. We
all need chemicals to feel united. Better living through Chemistry
indeed.
What is this saying? What exactly is this? Stadium House ? Stadium Rave?
What exactly do the crowd want? Not much by the sound of it : just give
us some of those Big Beats and we'll go home exhausted. What is the
nature of art? To reflect the mood of the times? To inform and comment
upon the human condition?
If art does reflect the mood of the times, it seems as if this is in
some ways, pure art, and at the same time, nothing but emptiness. The
human condition, the Chemical Brothers are saying, is simple. We all
want to escape frantically from the big bad world out there, and retreat
into ourselves, the soft, warm comfortable rhythms of discos and self-
congratulatory messages. Da brudders gonna work it out, indeed. People
seem to be dancing with a desperation not seen since sixth form discos.
Everyone seems to be trying to dance their way out of this world, dance
their way back to the womb.
If only we spent this energy constructively, instead of passively. The
united might and power of 4000 people is enough to transform some
nations : instead everyone wants to get lost inside their own private
world of Rhythm and Stealth. Given a platform of this magnitude, and
instead of using the video screens and imagery constructively, the
Chemical Brothers issue no more than a series of meaningless jump-cut
random fractal imagery and a final message of Beatlesque banality :
"Love Is All" indeed. Love your fellow neighbour, and everything will be
OK. War, poverty, despair do not exist in chemical land. "I really
thought love would save us all" - John Lennon said in the months before
his death.
The only hint of any social awareness is the Hairy One's shirt reading
"Socialism" but it is impossible to determine if this is the name of a
club, or a mere statement of unity through rhythm as society. Or more
accurately, the Socialism we need isn't Heavenly, it's Trotsky. Even
attempts at art in video through pop, such as U2's literate Pop-Mart and
Zoo TV tours, and Nine Inch Nails more graphic biologic machine message
(the universe as one constant organism), appear works of great
literature next to this messageless passport to rhythmic ecstasy.
It appears everyone here is one an E of some form : Entertainment,
Escapism, Emptiness. So is this art? Probably not. There isn't a
message at all that can be found, just pure populist entertainment
devoid of all meaning. There isn't even any emotional connection - no
lyrics, nothing to interact with or take away (unlike Underworld, who at
least infuse their rhythms with surreal lyricism, or Moby, who spotwelds
blues samples into his work to convey the emotional input) - it sounds
like machines operating to a scientific formulae.
But the Chemical Brothers can't help but be pop stars, hands in the air
waving, teasing crowds with snippets of hits, roars from the masses, and
unadventurous recitals of the 'hits' that adhere to the classic pop
structure implemented by Elvis and his ilk back in the 60's, and
reiterated by Nirvana and the Pixies : Verse Chorus Verse, or Quiet,
Loud, Quiet, Loud, End.
So Stadium House it is, without art, artistry or message, just a
hypnotic rhythm that transfixes those in need of an escapist fix, and
bores the rest. Unless of course, The Chemical Brothers message is a
simple statement of the human condition at this stage in history : the
denial of reality - that we all we want to dance our asses off and
forget the real world exists. Oh yeah, I forgot, they rocked.
