Subject: (mobility) Re: NMR question about CD's
There is a high-end-snobbish magazine called Stereo, and there they recommend
to put a cd in a fridge for half an hour before playing in order to get better
sound. and that's not all, they even recommend to cut the edge of the cd under
a certain angle so that it will no longer be a cylinder, but some kind of a
cone without the top (can you imagine). there was an advertisment for a machine
that does this, some kind of "cd-lathe". the least extreme thing they
recommended was paint the edge with a green felt-tip pen, because green is the
complementary colour to the red of the laser and so you get less distortion.
i know, it all seems like i'm just joking, but this is a real serious magazine
for people who prefer iridium connectors to platinum ones and speakes boxes
from teac wood instead of pine.
i tried two of their tips (the less dangerous two) and the fun with the
fridge... well, i got a cd, that my stereo didn't want to read on any occasion,
and after putting it into fridge for half an hour, the stereo improved its
success to 10% from 0.
and the second tip was about scratches on cds, the Stereo magazine recommends
to paint the scratch over with a black pencil. i tried this on a cd that had so
many scratches, that it couldn't bear any more, just because of no place for
some next. well... it managed to bear some next, because after applying this
pencil-doctor for cds, there are even more scratches, but they are more
visible. (for me, don't know if this tells the cdplayer where the scratches are
in order to make him avoid them :) )
so this was just an off-topic posting, don't worry chris, your cds will survive
that, it would be worse if you let them in the car during a day. a hot summer
one. i thought that only tapes are in danger of being "chewed" by the deck,
but after my friend returned me one cd i lend him, i'm not so sure :)
have a nice day and sorry for such long NMR posting.
kohut.

Subject: (mobility) Play Limited edition (A bonus Cd) ?
Hi folks.
I just went to a French online store that sells a thing called:
Moby - Play (Limited edition) (A bonus Cd)
Do u know something about this release ? (Cause i don't want to spend 20 bucks - its expensive price - to get a cd that i already have and another one that is a collection of the last b sides or remixes ...)
Reference shown:VIR 8486260.
Thanks in advance.

Note: (To Bart) How do u manage to get all these Moby Cds ? You have won a lottery prize or something like that because I can't do it.)
np: Faithless - Why go ? (the single with Boy george, quite funny in fact)
