You moby fans are so cool. Some considerate subscribers pointed out that we
gave out the wrong address for NPR. For all of you who wish to vote for
"Play" as one of NPR's most influential recordings of the millenium, the
correct address is:
www.npr.org
MOBY will be on Late Show with David Letterman TOMORROW (friday 10.15 at
11.30pm edt) performing "Natural Blues"
the performance will then be available for FREE download on amazon.com at
12.01am pacific time on their free download site.
please pass this info along to anyone you know that is a moby fan
and for you guys in the uk, check it out on the web!!!!!

A quick note to those of you who might be so inclined to vote for Play on
the NPR's best of the century poll, the correct URL to access the site is
http://www.NPR.org, not .com as was previously posted.
Also, I am astounded by the significance of a cultural authority like NPR
selecting, not just Play, but all of Play. Many musical highlights of the
last few decades are represented by singles, not whole albums. Lauryn Hill
is represented only by "Doo Wop (That Thing)", Prince by "When Doves Cry",
Nirvana by "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Michael Jackson by "Billie Jean", Bob
Dylan, even, by three individual song, but no album. Notable LP's that did
make the list are Carole King's "Tapestry", Bruce Springsteen's "Born to
Run", "The Bridge" by Sonny Rollins and "Talking Book" by Stevie Wonder.
Even the Beach Boy's seminal "Pet Sounds", considered one of the defining
moments of american pop music, isn't on the list (though the group's highly
influential single "Good Vibrations" is). That Play is included en toto
points to either the fact that it lacks a big hit single to make a larger,
more unified statement to the literatti of america, or it's a testament to
the critical weight of Moby's masterpiece.
Anyway... GO VOTE. I wanna see this record on the list come January!!

I thought that was a bit odd myself. But when I went to catch the Toronto
Moby show, I saw a big mag with Moby on the cover. And just my luck, it was
free! It was Eye, I guess the big techno and rave mag.. Annnywhoos, there
was an interview with Moby in it, and it talked about Play, and then they
started talking about Moby's singing voice. He himself said that he didnt
have a very musicly inclined voice. But that he doesnt think that he would
be where he is today if he could sing amazingly (I could just see Moby doing
opera :))
I dunno, I dont think that he is that bad of a singer, I mean for a a male
single artist. He is not quite as good as Trent, but then who is ;)
Anyway, I just thought that I might mention that...

I love Moby's voice. Probably cuz it sounds sincere and it's different.
It's not like he's singing, but he's trying to talk with a musical background
and make it mesh. If anyone else did the vocals on a song like porcelian, it
wouldn't be the same. But moby just has a touching voice. I don't know how
to explain it.
Speaking of vocals, I searched for the Mimi CD Soak. Cdnow has some
realaudio clips. I don't know. Great voice, crappy background music. Don't
think it's worth it.

I was watching Popular last night, and I have to say, when I heard Moby
come on I was completely entranced. It was so beautiful, like when I
song makes a scene in a movie. The scene was insignificant but all of a
sudden became so powerful due to the song...I didn't want it to end! At
the end of the show (like all teen shows it seems) they said "music was
provided by the following artists" and they replay the song and show the
CD cover and announce the artist. It was so strange to see play up on
the screen and just hear someone say 'MOBY' . I'm glad it wasn't
bodyrock, I'm glad his other music is finally being exposed.

I agree. I don't think that there's any danger of the Metropolitan Opera
banging his door down, but I think that his voice is entirely appropriate and
effective for the music he does. When you make songs that aim to convey
pure, honest emotion, it helps when the vocals are themselves honest and
without pretention of any kind.
For whatever my musically-uneducated opinion is worth.

i believe moby has a wonderful voice... it may not be the best, but it isn't
horrible. his singing fits very well with south side, machete, revolver,
come on baby... even if he screams and yells, he's expressing his true
emotions... and it sympathizes with me whenever i'm having a miserable day.

Why does My Heart Feel So Bad does have a video, it's on the first
single with the ickle picture of moby on a cloud;)
It's a cartoon thast runs on a mac or PC, Moby comes down from the moon
in a wheelbarrow with his dog, they go into a park and wander around,
people ignore him so he wanders off with his dog and wanders off home ;)
I suppose if I had sound on it would have helped me understand the
video more, but, allas, the person whose computer I was running it on
had no speakers, still, that's that.

with the Realaudio thing, I now know where the problem lies.
Don't V2 ever get enough of the song 'Bodyrock'?
I got a brand new Bodyrock promo from eBay today,
for how long is V2 going to promote this song?
And even no new (re)mixes, just 2 edits of the Olav Basoski mix
(great mix by the way!)
Now I don't want to sound as too much of a Mute fan, but they
(I hope) will include some new goodies on their second WDMHFSB
12" later this month, yummy!

Why shouldn't you have? I mean, yeah it's not MOBY related (directly at
least) but then again, there are a lot of posts that are kinda
meaningless and yours is actually in hopes of helping others and I mean,
at some point in time every one needs help. Why shouldn't we help
others because at some point, we'll need some one else's help. It's
kinda like a karma thing. By all means, if your post is in the spirit
of helping others, then in a way that's just as moby related as
anything. Moby helps those who needs it when he makes donations to
charity so a post asking ppl to go to a web page that feeds starving
children is a positive post. It's not like you were bitching about
anything! Don't feel bad.

See, I have a different sense of humor. I'm screwed up. I think it would be
funny if Moby suddenly turned red and started yelling "Who did that?" and
the whole audience goes quiet. Moby walks into the audience. Did you do
that, he says to a kid. The kid shudders.
Moby grabs the kid by the scruff of his neck and says, "I may be a vegan but
I'm no pacifist, sucker" and throws him a full fifty feet out of the theatre
and laughs with a deep evil voice.
"HAHAHAHA" and then returns to his normal self and keeps playing.
Or if Moby just breaks out in tears.
Yeah, I'm pretty screwed up. By the way, seeing Moby get eaten by Space
Ghost was so cool. 'Cept, hate to say it, Moby looked a little too skinny..
