Hi there,
I was over at my grandma's house a while back and I happened up on a small
stack of tapes. I looked through and found one by a gospel trio from
Oklahoma. I don't know why but I picked it up and looked over the track
listing. Believe it or not the very first track is "Run On For A Long Time."
Its a crazy jazzy, swinging version. Its a lot slower than moby's version.
Also..
I remembered the discussion on the lyrics.... so I thought I would listen to
this version. I'm not saying that this is definitely what the moby version
says.... but the rest of the lyrics match, so i don't see why this one
wouldn't.
Anyway... According to the Osceola Gospel Trio from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the
lyric is as follows
"Some people go to church just to sit and defy, trying to make a date with the
neighbor's wife"

First of all I feel I must apologize for all the Moby related stuff
in this e-mail. I couldn't think of some boring off-topic thing
to fill everybodys mailboxes with.... Oh wait, here's something:
THE GOLDEN RULES
- ----------------
1. Please keep the discussion on the list confined to that revolving
around Moby, his record label Trophy, and the pseudonyms thereof. For
example, while Puff Daddy may be a great artist to some, most members of
the list don't really care since it's not related to Moby.
2. Please keep in mind basic netiquette when making postings to the list.
When replying to a message, try to quote only the sections of the original
message that are relevant to reply and EDIT the rest. Avoid using
excessively long signatures -- while they may look fancy remember that
people will see them on your every posting and will start to looked tired
real quick (four lines is a good size).
3. Try to keep messages relevant to the list's topic (no general
advertisements, "warnings" about viruses, chain letters, and so forth).
The list manager has final say on whether a topic is welcome on the list;
please do your best to follow his guidance.
4. The messages you send are going out to hundreds of other people.
Please think twice before posting flames or extremely large messages to
the list. You should *never* send graphics or audio files to the list
- -- doing so may result in your subscription being canceled.
5. When posting to the list, make sure you are using the same address
that you subscribed with!!! Any address submitted to the mailing list
that is unrecognized will be returned to the sender and will not be seen
by the list members, no exceptions.

thank you for reading....and now for some Moby:
>some people go to church just to signify
>trying to make a date with a neighbor's wife
>brother let me tell you just as sure as you're born
>you better leave that woman alone
It's "signify" or Moby himself is wrong...
I have a recording of Run On live and those who
have seen him perform Run On live know that Moby
sings the vocals himself for this song. He clearly says
"signify"
But peronally I believe Rob is probably right with his:
"Some people go to church just to sit and defy, trying to make
a date with the neighbor's wife"
Oh, and I found another Moby remix recently on eBay:
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAKE IT MINE (promo) [The Shamen, 1992]
US promo CD, Epic, ESK-4548
1 3:39 Make It Mine (Oh-Moby 7" Edit)
2 3:31 Make It Mine (Album Version)
3 3:13 Make It Mine (Alternative Radio Edit)
As you can see it has a Moby mix that's not on the
regular CD, but hold your horses, in general it's just
a short version of the 'Manhattan Mix'
The credits for this mix are:
"Remix and additional production by Moby"
"7" edit by Omar Santana"
Yes, the NY gabber hardcore Omar Santana. I didn't know he's been in the
house scene for such a long time. The album version is mixed by Omar's
collegue Lenny D (also a US gabber Dj/producer!) It surprises me there isn't
a Rob Gee mix on the
single :)
I also got my 'Revolver' promo CD today with the 'Over Version' of the song
on it.
You know.. 'that's when I realize it's over..'etc. I had never heard this
one before,
pretty weird when you're used to 'that's when I reach for my revolver'....

Okay, we definitely know the horrors of Kosovo, perpetrated
by both the Serb army and Albanian KLA guerillas happened,
but media propaganda on both sides is also a reality,
including the news we are fed by the western media. We are
selectively given information to benefit powerful companies
and governments in many ways. There are objective truths in
what is being reported, but not all truth is given, and
there can be many different reasons. For example, we don't
always hear about 10 year old children in Sierra Leonne
being kidnapped and drugged and then forced to kill people,
sometimes even their own family, and the group responsible
is supplied arms by western governments, for their own
political agenda or just plain greed. There is money in
war, especially when most arms are bought from the U.S. and
Europe.
Plus, I think the majority of people are conformists, or
are forced to conform - no other choice. Otherwise the
capitalist machine that drives the present world 'order'
would not be functioning.
That's an objective reality for many - especially those in
the third world.

Cool!! Hey, is it the exact recording that moby sampled from, in
otherwords, is the individual singing the same one as on the Moby track?
Also, is it possible for you to make copies--prefereably in mp3 format, if
we ask really nicely? Either that or post detailed info on the
recording--what year, group, record company, serial number etc...?

What ever happened to the little * we decided to put in the subject line

No..... this is definitely not the song that moby sampled from. There is a band
backing the singers and he said that all of the samples were acapella. Also,
hmmm..... how do i put it.... well.. its a lot dorkier than the song he
sampled. I can picture wayne newton singing along while snapping his fingers
(no offense to wayne newton fans :)
I made my grandma listen to moby's version and she wasn't real impressed,
however my mom agreed that moby's was better.
I'm not sure about when and where it was released, but its definitely
independent. The J-card appears to have been photocopied ;)
I'll get an mp3 up in a few days if you people really wanna hear it. Its rather
amusing to hear after being awed by moby's version.

If Moby had to join an established group
who would you have it be?
I was thinking the Beastie Boys would be a good
fit=2E They are about the same age and they have common ground
in NYC, hip-hop and punk rock=2E The politics are compatible=2E The BB could=20=
use Moby's touch, and Moby could still plug in the old guitar from time
to time=2E
My wacky answer would be Slayer--that would be a great album!
As for techno supergods, just imagine an FSOL or Orbital team-up=2E
