Strange combination, but could be explosive... I bet more for a
Moby remix of one of Mrs Lennox songs.

Subject: (mobility) DC Show/Interview
Hi All,
Just wanted to chime in about the DC show...I have to say, it was one of the
best shows I have ever seen Moby do. It was on the short side, but the band
was tight and really rocked the place. I loved the James Bond Theme, the new
song was great, and the whole show was VERY celebratory. My sister flew out
from Chicago for the gig. Apparently Michael Stipe was at the gig, but I was
backstage and didn't seem him anywhere. I actually got to interview Moby and
was one of the very first people to wish him a happy birthday (it was 12:10
when I met with him). We did the interview on his tour bus. I will be
posting it on my web page either today or tomorrow, along with a few photos
from the concert. I will also have a live review in greater length. I have
to say that sitting down with Moby and talking with him was one of the
coolest things I have ever done. I have interviewed lots of musicians, but
Moby is intelligent, articulate, charming, witty, and without a doubt one of
the most gentle souls I have ever met. There are LOTS of interesting things
in the interview. A few of the things he talked about:
Woodstock
The MTV Music Awards (at length)
Living in a haunted house as a kid
Potential books he might write
Misogyny in today's music
Axl Rose
Thanks to Dave Linn for playing the videos for "Go" and "Run On" at Omega
last night!!! :-)

Subject: (mobility) moby in dc on friday + the frat boys there
okay let me just start this out saying that overall i had
an incredible time at nation on friday night. this mail is
however going to be packed with hateful things. if you are
the guy i am talking about in this mail i wish evil things
to happen to you; many evil things.
i was not planning on going to this show because i did not
want to drive in southeast and park my car who knows where.
but i did want to see moby. the first time i saw him on
12 dec 97 at the 9:30 club was incredible. it was one of
my favourite shows ever and was just a great night altogether.
as i was saying i was not going to go, because the
one time i'd been to the capitol ballroom (what nation
used to be called) for BUZZ, i went in this huge group of
people but one of the guys forgot his driver's license so
we couldn't get in. it was a horrible neighbourhood. so
up until friday night i had never been into the area.
my friend karyn came down from NYC to see either moby or
r.e.m. i told her i would go to moby if we found some
other people to go. and we did. 4 girls total. headed to
southeast d.c. the city paper said everything at nationa
starts at 7 pm unless otherwise noted and since i had
never actually been to sting i figured we should get there
as soon as we could. karyn is three weeks short from
being 19. what the hell? what is a 19+ show anyways?
what can you do when you are 19 that you cannot do when
you are 18? geez.
okay. so we got there around 9:30 ish? i parked in one
of the closest parking spaces to the club. the doors
didn't open until 11 i think? so we waited and waited.
when doors opened we shuffled through security, bought
our tickets and then i had to go drop some stuff in my
car and then came back. then voila...entre.
jennifer was the only one of us who had ever been to
sting. mimi, karyn and i had only heard about it.
i'm guessing that i am one of the only kids on this list
who is not into the rave scene. i guess i'm into the
indie pop/indie rock scene if i had to be into any.
moby is one of the few acts i would ever dance to. he
just brings something very pure out in me that allows
me to not get shaky about the thought of dancing around
oodles of other people. wow, this mail is one long
stream of conscience mess. sorry. i wanted to say that
i called moby's mgt about getting karyn into the show
and although they were very nice they said there would
be no way for her to get in because it was club policy.
but she got in anyways, i guess security was not that
tight...cos i mean THREE WEEKS. okay. anyways so we
explored. the patio was so nice when they first opened
it up and we needed a break from dancing so sat down
at one of the tables and watched everyone around us.
we went back inside when they opened up the main room
and then i went back to the side room where some of the
best break dancing i had ever seen was taking place.
god i wish i could break dance. there was only one girl
break dancing though out of the lot.
when it was closer to 1:30 [when moby was slated to go
on] i went back into the main room and i kept dancing.
i drank one coca cola and one water earlier in the
night and i felt so sick but i didn't really want to
spring $2.50? i think for another water or coke. so
i kept dancing. i had made my way to about five rows
from the front and i was dead center. when the curtains
opened and moby started playing i was so into it.
until a frat guy right behind me starts jumping into me
jabbing his elbows into my back. and he tries using me
to jump higher to get moby's attention. all the while
he is yelling these ridiculous things that i cannot even
hear. he continues to jump into me really hurting me and
so i turn around and ask him to stop. this seems to
excite him so he starts MOSHING. what the fuck?
so he jumps into me again and i lose it and push him back
a few times and start pummeling him and yell "JUST FUCKING
STOP IT" or something evil that i would never yell. then
he raises his fist at me. i turn around and look at moby
who seems to be searching out for people to focus on and
his eyes sweep past me. i was near tears during "feeling
so real" and by that time the frat guy had calmed down a
bit and was not moshing.
after that there was a crush of people moving in a huge
group and everyone sort of sways. i almost fainted. god.
but the music was great. and that's all that matters. i
still don't understand why there are people like that
frat guy making a huge mess of a beautiful thing like the
moby show. sure there are loud songs and it's okay to jump
but when you hurt other people that just sucks. i mean
if i step on a toe i say sorry. it's just the way i was
raised. i don't know if it is alcohol or upbringing or
what but that guy should rot for bringing other people
down when they are up on cloud nine watching moby.
back at the show on 12 dec 97 it was perfect. just a bunch
of people who really wanted to be there and were content
either dancing or just standing still and watching moby.
i just want to say if you're reading this moby to please
try and settle down these big macho types who come to yr
shows and trample all the little people who actually came
to see you perform and hear your music.
did anyone tape the dc show btw? or the show on 12 dec 97?
i have a good trade list but no moby.
http://www.underworld.net/~madflowr/trade.html
oh i don't pay for bootlegs or sell them. that's evil.
oh and then i had to be at work by 8 a.m. i got back from
dropping my friend karyn off at the bus station by 5:30 a.m.
i got one hour of sleep because i feared if i got more then
i would be even more tired than i already was. then i slept
from 10 pm until 1 pm the next day.
oh and moby that night at the 9:30 club on 12 dec 1997 you
said that you would let me interview you and to get in touch
with yr management and we'd set something up. well i got in
touch with them and we set something up so i would call and
we would do a phone interview and i called when they said i
should call and no one was there. and i kept calling back
in 30 min increments and nothing ever happened. so i was
wondering if you could still do that interview you promised
so long ago. if you can get in touch with me. thanks.
evol,
madflowr
i'm sorry this is so long kids. i had a lot on my mind.

Like do you guys go to any concerts..stuff like this you get used to.
I been to woodstock 2 times, and it was a lot worse...and about a million
festivals, and hardcore shows in nyc. Some frat guy yelling seems like
nothing at all. Also, Moby tells his audiences he wishes he could have sex
with everyone in the audience. Some people go to concerts just to have fun,
and not necessarily totally care about the music. They have a right though
to make out, yell, or whatever...I mean it's a concert that they payed to
get into. You can't just assume everyone at a concertm ust want to listen
to the artist, it's the environment a lot of times that it is enjoyable.
Anyways, err...that's what I think...don't be so hard on people.
Chris

i saw moby perform at sessions today and he was sooo great! he played "when
it's cold i'd like to die" and "everytime u touch me" w/ the female vocalists
who are on everything is wrong! how cool is that! sessions is like mtv
unplugged so it was terribly hard to restrain myself from busting outta my
seat and dancing. the highlight was when moby was talking to the audience
and recognized me and talked into his mike. "hi" he says and waves and
smiles at me and tells the audience "i met this young lady 2 yrs ago on the
train and she was going to an antifur protest." h e says some more stuff
about our encounter and says that good clean air has given him such a good
memory. i was caught so off guard and was blushing the whole time... but i
feel sooo sooo special ; ). the fact that moby remembers me and our
conversation from 2 yrs ago is incredible and everytime i see him, he gives
me a kiss on the cheek. i hope all of u get to experience meeting this
wonderful man and hearing him perform. god, i luv the guy like you couldnt
imagine.

Isn't hard to get people into Moby?
I have been trying this on all of my friends for a few years and only about
four of them have converted. This is my interpretation of how Moby's musik
affects us, so if you don't agree, well, express your opinions.
Moby plays songs like Into the Blue and Everything is Wrong, and they give
you this real hollow feeling inside.
My Weakness, for example, I tried to get one of my friends into it but they
said it was too gothical or churchish, to which I replied don't judge its
feeling from the experience you are having at this moment eg drunk as
fuck, and horny. but develop a whole new set of emotions. Like think of
your most profound moment to date and play a Mony song and you'll see.
Shining gives off the vibe that it is the song that you will hear if you
reached the top of Mount Everest.
His songs are not just pathetic money grabbing attempts like the Spice
girls, or they are not just songs that you are supposed to dance to like
other Rave tunes, These songs that he plays affect everyones mentalities,
They get into your heart and like a drug, pot, E, etc they enhance the moment.
Has any one seen the Film Powder if so you'll know what I mean by the
following.
when Powder puts a hand on the Dying deer's neck and then grabs the
Hunter's hand. The feeling that goes through him, the BOOM and then shock,
then Oh my god what have I done , Then Powder Lets the Deer drift off to
sleep. It's an immensley powerful moment even if you hate the film.
I just thought of Powder as Moby and Maybe he is. In fact it scares me how
similar the character Powder and Moby really are. Small Bald White boys
who have feelings far from the typical headless sheep that resemble Frat
boys( or rugbyheads in New Zealand) The deep spiritual feeling that we get
from his musik.
Then he conforms a bit for a few classic good tunes, they pay the bills,
Bodyrock, Honey, Feeling so real, James Bond.
These tunes are the tunes Myfriends all like to hear. It annoys me but one
day after a really bad moment in their life I will play Moby and they will
know, oh yes, they will understand.
What I want to know is why Moby doesn't do a Whole Movie score like James
Horner.
I spose failiures like Dave Grohl "touch" and Billy Corgan "ransom" have an
impact.
But his songs actually make films a whole lot better, Biased I know, but
never the less. Examples are not hard to come by.
I would love to bore you guys alot more with my emotion raves but I have a
lecture to get to so Spot
