I did the top ten (or so) albums ever....but these are the top ten
discs/mp3s making the rounds in my ears the past week (or so).
I am on a decidedly electronic kick right now...and I didn't even know.
These are in order this time,
1. Richie Hawtin / Orange
2. Nine Inch Nails / The Day The World Went Away (single)
3. Squarepusher / Maximum Priest E.P.
4. Moby / Bodyrock (US single)
5. Atari Teenage Riot / 60 Second Wipeout
6. Ministry / Center of The Spoon
7. White Zombie / Ressurection Day (an mp3 collection of live songs from the
devil music (volume 1) days)
8. Smashing Pumpkins / (We Salute you) Naked Man (a mp3 boot)
9. Lopez / Why Can't it Stop
10. Moby / Underwater (ambient CD included with some ETIW discs, 100 I
think)

Oh, I have pictures from his last show that he did here (probably two
years ago) and a couple of them are of when he got up on his keyboard
during 'thousand'. He didn't get naked though. *pout* You get to see
all the good shows, christian!

this, and go to shows. i go to atleast 2 a month. have
to! i'd loose my sanity otherwise.

Subject: (mobility) Moby Concert and Meeting Moby
Agh the original message got screwed up. Moby was unbelievable. This was my
first concert and I think I'll remember this better than losing my virginity.
Incredible show.
When we arrived at Avalon at 6:30 the crowd was already abuzz (all the free
t-shirts were gone ack!). i wanted to get up front early, but my friends
didn't want to. We stood around for a while until Moa came one.
Moa was pretty good in my opinon. They played a nice fusion of jazz, rock,
and drum and bass. The backing band was pretty cool, they were dressed all
ultra preppy. The keyboardist was hilarious because he'd get up when he
wasn't playing groove to the music and dance around. The bassist played like
a robot, but was really good. The guitarist had a sense of cool around him
and was tearing it up. The drummer had some great beats and had no problem
keeping up with those psycho breaks. Anyways they played a nice set.
The wait in between was long and they kept on launching smoke at us. Finally
we heard the strains of a Moby track, but where was Moby??? After the track
finished they launched some more smoke out us and enter Moby strapped with an
acoustic guitar. He opened up with some new stuff of play, which I have not
memorized yet so I can't tell you which tracks. The set list looked like this
approximately (I probably forgot some tracks or couldn't tell you the names
because I am in shock):
Paranoid
TWIRFMR
Bond Theme
Go
Everytime You Touch Me
Bring Back My Happiness
Feeling So Real
Honey
Bodyrock
Next Is The E
B-Side off a British Single (wasn't familiar with it)
Thousand
The highlights were: Go, Bond Theme, Next is the E, TWIRFMR, Thousand
Go was great because the crowd just dug it up and everyone knew it. Plus Moby
got up and yelled Go a lot.
On Bond Theme, Moby played guitar and was absolutely fantabolous. He mixed it
with another song which I wasn't familar with or couldn't tell. The crowd
went nuts for it.
Next is the E was one of my personal favorite Moby tracks and the live
version was awesome. He introduced it as a song about dancing until the early
morning and everybody danced.
TWIRFMR was introduced as a Boston Tradition, because Mission of Burma is
from Boston. It was great live and Moby played it with extreme vigor. The
crowd chanted along with this one.
Thousands was possibly the visual highlight of the night. Moby performed it
alone and I believed closed with it. He was topless looking all buff and
cool. He moved his hands to the beat (in a curling motion like he was lifting
weights, but with his hands perpindicular as opposed to at his sides). The
light show on this one was fantasic. Very energitic and cool. Finally he
stood up on his keyboard and stared just deadpan at the crowd. He slowly
raised his hands. I thought he was going to stop at the cross position but
instead he raised them into an O. The lights at this point were so hectic he
looked like he was almost B&W. Visually it was top notch.
Throughout the show Moby was very energetic. He was sweating like crazy after
the first song. He didn't slow down for any song. He jumped around a lot, and
got up on his amp and keyboard. He played almost every instrument except
bass. I was surpised to see him play so much auxillary percussion like
congas. The rhythms were nuts. The backing band was very good. The guy on
drums was great and gave everything a very human feel. The bassist was female
and looked she was a hardcore punk she had a sticker on her bass that said
Giulliani is a Jerk. The auxillary percussionist looked like Keith Flint, no
joke. He got topless and was really energetic as well. One Love was the
phrase of the night. Moby was just unbelievable.
And now here is the part of the night that I will never forget. I just
finished making an album recently. As a last minute idea I decided to make a
copy for Moby. My friends arrived late and were in a huge rush, but I
convinced them to stay just a few minutes extra as the CD was still copying.
I was very unsure about giving Moby the CD. I wasn't sure how I'd get it to
him in the first place and second how he'd react. I was very nervous and
attempted once or twice to try and give it to him when he slowed down in a
song, but that didn't work. Finally during a break I started waving it like
mad (I was right up front) but he was so intense he didn't notice. Then
people started screaming "TAKE THE CD!!!" (Thank you Evita Stoltzmann and
friends for getting that started and a special thank you to the big NIN fan
who helped too) and then Moby looked at me and took the CD. I almost fainted
right there. He looked at the cover and said "Thank you Rizwan Mahmud from 6
Kirkwood Drive" (if your from boston and heard that, rizwan is me :). I
couldn't believe he had taken the CD and I couldn't believe he had pronounced
my name properly! He was so nice about it and even said thanks. I really
couldn't believe how cool Moby could possibly be. If your interested in
getting a copy of the CD, its a double disc, 35 tracks, big mix of
electronic, techno, jazz, drum & bass, and rock (I was inspired by Moby to
shed the concept of one style albums), and is available for $12 through the
mail from me (email me at rizwanm@iname.com). I also have just put a website
http://listen.to/riz though the audio samples aren't on it yet. Sorry for the
shameless plug. I still can't get over the fact that I met Moby.
the night was incredible. hearing moby live, meeting him, and giving him my
cd are possibly the greatest thing i've done all my life. i will never forget
today. please email me if your interested more about the concert our would
like to order the CD. thanks for reading this whole long email!!!

I can't believe you haven't found this cd yet. I just got back from a month
vacation in europe and I saw the double cd at literally 7 or 8 music stores.
I think you are checking in the wrong spots. HMV and Virgin should have
them.

+AD4-Hi Folks,
+AD4-
+AD4-Well I just spent my week of vacation in Toronto looking for this Cd. I
hit
+AD4-the used stores, HMV, tower, Sam the Record Man and a bunch of other stores
+AD4-and I couldn't find it. However there is a glimmer of hope. According to
+AD4-one of the stores that I went to, I was told that the cd may be reissued.
I
+AD4-guess Mute Records is giving Oasis records the right to distribute their
+AD4-cd's.
+AD4-
+AD4-Now my question is Has anyone heard of Oasis records? Can anyone shed some
+AD4-light on this matter. Is anybody willing to have a burned cd version of
+AD4-this :).

I was at Tower Records in London a few weeks back and I came across the
Everytime You Touch Me Remix Competition winners 12 for 1 pound. I picked
it up but still haven't listened to it yet because I don't have a turntable.
But, I would like to know if it is limited edition and what it is probably
worth (hasn't been played). I have never seen it anywhere else and I was
just flipping through the sale items.

Just got back from the show in Plainview and all I have to say is that
it was fucking brilliant. Have seen Moby 7 times before but this truely
was the best one. Quicky review, did some great covers during the
second encore like Paranoid by Black Sabbath, portions of Guns and Roses
Sweet Child of Mine, then Led Zepplins Stairway to Heaven then into a
lounge version of Stairway to heaven with a roadie singing it. Very
energetic version of Why can't it Stop, threw in some Public Enemy into
James Bond, and gave a whole little thank to WLIR for playing him
lately because it is cool for him in that WLIR was the station he
listened to when he was growing up in Conn. More in depth review
tommorow or is it tonight don't know must sleep now tired . good night
all. Keith
