watched 2 mtv shows on woodstock last night. for the
most part they where focusing on the metal, rock,
whatever you want to call it, hard kinda stuff. korn
on friday and the limp biskit, rage
against...,metallica triple bill last night. they said
very little about anything electronic except "it's
over there at night on the upcoming artists stage",
and that "a lot of electronic bands have played and i
think chemical brothers will be on the main stage at
some point." paraphrasing of course, but that's about
it. they showed DMB jamming for about 30 seconds.
let's hope they show more good stuff on the post
concert special.

Subject: (mobility) woodstock pay per view & Philly show
I've had the Pay Per View Woodstock broadcast on here at the office all
weekend and haven't seen Moby at all. The broadcast has been really
lame, they are only showing the main stages and nothing from the Rave or
Emerging Artists tent. They had the Chemical Brothers on for about 10
minutes and they were really boring.
I'm listening to "This American Life" (a really cool and quirky radio
program) on NPR right now and they are playing some music from "Play" in
the background behind the stories being told. Awesome.
Before the Philly show on Weds., a group of us are meeting at the
Mexican Post (on Chestnut St. btw. Front & 2nd.) for Margaritas. Anyone
is welcome to join us. There will be about 6 of us and we are very
psyched. I'll try to wear my Moby T-shirt. (Moby...you can join us too.
They have great gazpacho!) Also there is a great half vegan restaraunt
around the corner from the TLA theater on 4th street, called "The
Lastest Dish". Josh Wink sometimes spins records on Weds. nights at the
club "Fluid" above The Lastest Dish.
Looking forward to Weds> Debbie

hmmmmm.... 104 still is just playing the "alternative
bands" they didnt say they were going to do the Chems
set (i assume that was at night) or the FB Slim... i
was just listening to Surrender during Metallica's set
but I fell asleep (from day hehehe)(actually i feel
asleep during Sunshine UG...or maybe Asleep fRom
Day...anyways)
Maybe they played Moby or the others at night, probly
not tho....
I really agree, they should have had some other
eclectic acts. The 104 DJ said there were rumours that
Metallica was gonna be moved to Sunday night since
Limp Bizkit and Rage ATM were playing before them, and
it might be a little too ruff'n'tuff, but that was
just a rumour, and Metal Licka (as i like to call them
;) still played.
Hah. comparing Moby to Yoko Ono, that's a good 1ne!!!
104 said they broadcast George Clinton's set, which
sux becuz first of all, they never play George Clinton
on 104!!!, and second, I MISSED IT!!!!!! boooo.....
I heard Jamiroquai's set, which I was a bit
dissapointed by, but it was like 8 am when they
rebroadcasted it and i wasnt really into it...
Welll anyway, I guess I am goin to Toads tonite....
Bas said hes still figuring it out with his frenz....
this has happened before... oh well....

hi, Eric!!
if that's the case, then it sucks to be conan, doesn't it?? okay - maybe
not.
maybe moby wasn't being mocked with the chicken skit (looks like
chicken shit when you read it quickly.) maybe it was pure happenstance that
we were fored to sit through tony randall eating a drumstick. but how much
research could they have done (that is conan, his editors, whoever) on moby
or anything he stands for since they chose to eat kfc on the show??
it was a simply disappointing show because moby is an incredibly influencial
artist-activist. (notice i didn't say well-known let alone well-liked.)
it's too bad the editors (or whoever) didn't care that moby at least has a
brain and that it practically would be his network television premiere.
(correct me if i'm wrong.) it's saddening that our networks can't emulate a
trend that's been happening on british television and on the BBC for years.
that is the trend of letting revolutionary artists have prime airtime.

Yesterday while browsing for music at Music Trader, I came across the Mixmag
CD featuring DJing by Moby and Sven Vath! For $8, I scooped it up and took it
home. It is quite good. Sven Vath's an amazing DJ, though I am still not a
fan of most of his work. MOBY's set was excellent as well, and I liked how he
mixed his stuff with the work of others. Cool.

moby is having an audio webcast on wednesday, aug. 4th @ 6:30 pm PDT.

this is the web address about it.
also, the recent issue of SPIN listed moby's PLAY in the top 90 albums of
the 90's. he's listed as #20. i thought that they would've put EIW on this
list as well, but just PLAY was on it. although, nirvana is one this list

Bart,
but on the UK Bodyrock Pt. 1, the song listed on ly as "Bodyrock" is
basically a remix of the album version. Wouldn't you agree on this? Also, I
assume it was moby who mixed it. I think it is very interesting and maybe the
best mix of them all (especially considering it's not titled as a remix).

Recently, I posted posted a message to this mailing list regarding an
invitation by Moby for people to be added to the guest list at shows
that have age restrictions. Moby is sincere in his desire to let fans
of all ages enjoy his live performances.
Whenever possible, Moby's shows are open to everyone. But sometimes,
for various reasons, Moby might play at a venue that has a minimum age
requirement. Unfortunately, legal liability concerns prevent under-
age fans from being allowed into these events. Despite Moby's wishes
to let everyone participate, the law must be followed.
Therefore, please disregard my previous message. Do not contact MCT
Management to put under-age persons on the guest list. This matter
is not something within Moby's control. I apologize for any
inconvenience or confusion that my message may have caused.

It sucked.
JUST KIDDING! (LOL)
WEll anyway my friend couldnt go so I had to go alone.
I didnt find any1ne from mobility, did any of you see
me> i had the UNH hat and the blue windbreaker (which
i took off cuz i was hot)
right anyway the beginning Dave The Wave was djing (i
know it was him cuz he played his exclusive mix of
VAST "Touched" which he mixed live on the Electro
Circus a while ago, plus he played the Ganja Kru mix
of Beasties "Negotiation Limerick File" which is 1ne
of standards nowadays... but the bass was so loud i
couldnt hear the beats at all!!!! grrrrr......)
Then after a loooooong time, some dj showed up on the
main stage (DTW was in the dj booth in the back) , and
he played for a little, he was cutting up copies of
808 State "Cubik" for a while. plus, over on the video
screen, they were playing visuals from the old
AMPs!!!! rock!!!!!!!!!!! FSOL "We Have Explosive"
Coldcut "Timber", some Ryuichi Sakamoto, etc. god that
brings back memories.... but 1ne of the video screens
just blanked out in the beginning, so i couldnt see it
from where i was standing, cuz i was way up front and
i did NOT want to move...
the opening band was not Tin Star or Moa as was
previously announced. It was Dalek, some hip hop group
ive never heard before. They were LOUD!!!!! like
everybody was holding their ears in pain!!! it was
kinda funny tho. the beats were slow triphoppy digital
beats, with LOTS of bass and in general noise on top.
It bordered on DHR at some times, it reminded me of
Fever, the hip hop group on DHR. It wasnt that bad,
but most people thought it sucked, but some people
thought it was OK. I heard 1ne guy say that the DJ
should get a better job. He wasnt't Terminator X or
anything, bbut he did do this really neat trick: He
some cylinder shape, like a toilet paper roll or
something, in the middle of the turntable, and put the
record on top of that, and turned the part with the
needle upside down, so that the beats were backwards.
Nothing too revolutionary I guess, but I'd never seen
that before, so it was pretty cool.
After they finished, some techno songs got pumped up,
while they did the soundcheck. Check the guitars,
check the bongos, check the sequencer, check the smoke
machine, etc. Every1ne was getting impatient. I found
this dude who had a glow-in-the-dark Juno Reactor
tshirt who said he went in JR's tour bus!
Eventually "My Weakness" started playing, and the
bassist came out, then the bongos guy (everybody was
SCREAMING for him, I guess they thought he was Moby at
first) then I guess the drummer etc., then, Moby
himself. setlist:
Find My Baby (he was playing acoustic guitar)
Machete (singing)
Porcelain (pajamas! shes got the porce...nevermind,
S&O joke...)
JB Theme (I touched his guitar during this song!!!!!)
Next Is The E (dedicated to any1ne who danced til
8ight AM. this is a disco song. I kept making an "E"
with my fingers. I dont know if any1ne noticed, but
who cares! somewhere around here, he sang a bit of
"Bring The Noise" by Public Enemy which was nothing
short of ROCK!)
Everloving ("This is a slow song." or maybe quiet he
said... anyway people kept yelling things over the
awkward silence. "MOBY YOU FUCKING RULE!!!!" "Thank
you!" APPLAUSE!!! I said "ROCK!" then just for the
hell of it "I LOVE CHESTER!" like there were any S&O
fans there...)
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad
Go (I remmeber he did a bongo solo in this song. He
did that a lot during the show. He definitely was
moving around a lot!!!)
Ah Ah (moving cuz the crowd said so!)
Bring Back My Happiness
Natural Blues
then he got his guitar and said something, then they
started playing a bit of "American Woman"!!! either
that or some Zappa song, there are a few he did hat
sound exactly like that (nevermind it was AW i know
it!!)
then BODYROCK!
Honey ("this is a slow sexy song")
Feeling So Real ("this is the best disco song ever"...
fuck yeah it is!!! it was an extended version, he kept
playing the hardcor breakbeats in the beginning and
"SET IT UP DJ!!!" for a while, doing another bongo
solo... is there a mix like this out, with the
extended intro? this ROCKS!)
then he went away...... every1ne was like MOBY! MOBY!
MOBY!MOBYMOBYMOBYMOBY!!!!!!! etc. eventually he came
out.... and played
Why Cant It Stop?
then he introduced the band (his voice sounded really
high, was he on helium!?!?!) then said he had to do
the next 1ne alone "this is my fastest song" you know
what that means.....
thud thud thud thud thud thud
thudthudthudthuthuthuthuththththththttttttttttt.....................boooooom......
oh yeahhhhhhhhhhh................
right, anyway any1ne whose seen him knows what, i dont
have to say...
A few times he stagedived, 1ne time some kid
crowdsurfed oneto the staged and danced with Moby,
then they jumped back into the crowd... 1ne time i was
RIGHT UP to the stage, but he crowdsurfed so i had to
run in and lose my place...
one time some dude was giving out water bottles, Moby
said he wished he had enough for every1ne.... i didnt
get 1ne but i touched one of them! the guy next to me
got it...of course the band members sprayed us from
time to time...)
okay, so after that some kids started breakdancing
etc...
i went out and looked for a phone... instead i found
my pal DAVO from WPKN! hanging out with Annete (not
even gonna try to spell it, rhymes with "special")
then Fran Fried joined, he works at the register and
is also a WPKN dj... later I told him about how some
of you Mobility folks say AR is 1ne of his best
albums, when he always seems to think the dance
community hates him for it.... anyway we were talking
for a while then i looked for a phone for like half
hour... finally found 1ne, called dad etc....
TODAYS MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IM 16ixteen!!!!!
I will refrain from saying ROCK!!!!! (doh)
