I'm fairly certain it wasn't, "Hey, may I have a piece of Tony Randall's
chicken?"
The contingent of Moby fans in the audience rocked, though. You know that
had to make him feel good. I wonder if, since Conan was a "hometown" show
for Moby, if he hung out with them after the gig? Maybe he invited them all
back to his place to party afterwards! Rock!!

EVERYBODY WROTE!
yeah, it's a mess here i know, the only
thing on order here is my harddisk,
but i KNEW i had that jrvasquez mix somewhere,
well now that i'm packing and moving everything, i found it back,
in my memory! [now playing]
I thiink the beat is good, and the piano too, i like
that,
maybe the vocals a bit too many...
...i dont know i'm not a musician,
but i think the vocals into the blue SO beautiful,
that the perfect mix should have the text only ONCE,
but then stretched out over the whole mix...
can anybody picture that?
have a great day
n.b. and don't forget yo' coat, when you go outside
question: how can i be a S&O fan, when i've never even seen it?

Well, the coolest mixes of "Voodoo Child" have Slight Return almost in it's
entirety (lacks some repeats) inside of it, during a long breakdown.
Definately in my top 5 - it's either called the "contracted" or "expanded"
mix. I love it when Moby integrates things - and I'll bet there's some
interesting experiments sitting in Moby's studio that are song combinations.
Best non Moby remix - Westbam, Feeling So Real
Worst nM remix - Revolver (Psychotic VE-GUN Mix) Phillip Steir?

Hey Jayson (and others) if you want an updated discography NOW, mail
me privately at eijck@iae.nl and I'll mail you the updated version back.
It includes the UK FSR promo CD and all the latest singles...
It doesn't have the remix section, soundtracks and the Trophy section and it
also doesn't have PLAY in it... (remix section is still under
construction..)
Could anybody give me the catalog numbers of the US Play CD and the
US Play promo CD? Then I can also include Play.

Subject: (mobility) A Kerouac'ish rant (Bodyrock, Conan and the media)
Well well...
Here I sit (in Soho, NYC) listening to ETIW, the first time I have listened
to it in about 16 months or so (honestly, it was never a favorite album of
mine by Moby)...but for some reason happy hardcore really appeals to me
right now (today)... I have been on a huge Moby kick lately and have been
wearing grooves into my animal rights CD and other MP3s of Mr. Hall's.
Ahhh..."All that I need is to be loved" just came one... (still my favorite
Moby track of all time. "ALL...THAT...I....NEED...." , oh and the speed
version of it on ETIW is just so wonderful.
Anyway...
"Play" in my opinion is Moby's strongest, most rounded work to date. It
isn't the emotional whole that AR is, or the celebration that ETIW is but it
is a solid and deep exploration of a few themes I think (emotional,
political and social). All in all it is a very deep rich album.
However...
Immediately upon listening to "Play" for the first time I found one specific
track I just could not stand nor thought it had a place on the album.
"Bodyrock"!
But...
I bought the "Bodyrock" single a few weeks ago and I must say the song is
growing on me. But then I saw Moby perform it on Conan last night and it all
made sense why it is where it is on the album. Seeing it done live I think i
get it now. I do think it would have been so much cooler if Moby performed
"Southside" or "My Weakness" (but is late night TV ready for a small bald
white guy and a bunch of synths...even Conan (read NBC) has his limits as to
what a musical guest should be on a late night TV show). At least one did
not need to be insulted by another cookie cutter singer (Leno with Tatyana
Ali) singing the same disposable blah blah blah pop sing. I applaud Conan
for that. I would love for him to drop Tony Randall (how many times do we
need to see Tony do that same old schtick with Conan and Andy) and have Moby
talk, an actual interesting guest with ideas and things to say (I am asking
to much, this is network TV...interesting and provacative is not them..I
mean look at the SICK! coverage of the Kennedy deaths over the past few
days, can you say VULTURES! I even heard one of the talking heads saying
something about the media and how annoying it must be and hard on the
families as the idiot was standing in the middle of the road infront of the
Kennedy home blabbering, let them mourn in peace, it is a private matter,
not a public one)...Moby would have been a very interesting guest to hear
talk, and of them all Conan I think has to most non mainstream guests time
to time.
Anyway back to the music...
Bodyrock fits in the album for me now, I also think it is a strong single
and marketed right (can you say james bond theme..hahahahah!) it can bring
Moby's music really into the mainstream. it already is, but it is rather
blank faced.
While bodyrock isn't on my all time top Moby list it isn't at my bottom
anymore...it is just a simple happy song. Which brings me to why I am
listening to ETIW now.
Happy happy joy joy....
PS= A DJ (Evil Ninja) mix album of Play would be DIVINE, one like the 2 disc
mix of ETIW...oh my.

I dont know what the keyboardist was really doing either, i thought she/he?
was doing the string part, but it didnt look right.
whatever though i was just happy to see him on the show.
> And why did he lean over to talk? Too shy? Was Conan's band too loud?
thats something all the guests at the end always do really. The band is
too loud, along with the clapping of the audience.
It looked like Moby wanted to initiate the conversation, but Conan wasnt
looking at first, but then Conan finally looked :)
I wonder if Moby was nervous.
Was this his actual first late night performance?
maybe letterman next?

Guess what? My affiliate decided to shut down for some upgrades or
somenthing and not carry conan last night. Fuckers; anyway, I would
really like to see it vid caped and put on the net I can do it if someone
has the tape. BTW it is not syndicated, it is a network tv show, NBC
only. They used to play classic conan shows on cnbc but not anymore.

It looked to me like pretty much all of it was on tape, Moby was just
playing shaft guitar over the main guitar riff which was on tape, the
DJ was the onyl one who seemed to be doing anything, although I thought
he was overdoing the scratching. The drummer was live but there were
obvious fills that were on tape(you could tell by the difference in
sound between the live and the tape. I only saw one woman and she
wasn't playing anything to my knowledge, I'dhave to look at the tape
again. And if moby was singing along his mic was off. He was lip
synching more likely and not doing that great a job at it. I had a
great time seeing the performance, but i wasn't satisfied with the
concept. But i guess the point is to play it as close to the album as
possible. which means DAT.

I agree. I was dissapointed with the performance. Moby was lipping
the song. I don't think the keyboard player was even playing.
I hope the instruments are mostly live when I see him this Monday at the
Chameleon in Lancaster, (also Wed. in Philly).

ACTUALLY, I saw MOBY on VIVA VARIETY (a show on the comedy channel here in

He was performing "Revolver". I was actually in shock because I hardly ever
watch the show (probably not on anymore) and I was
just channel-surfing. What a nice surprise huh??

Okay... my top 5s are:
Best 5 Moby Remixers:
1. The Crystal Method (for Come On Baby - also their album is incredible)
2. Piet Blank & Jaspa Jones (for James Bond Theme - as "Da Bomb")
3. CJ Bolland (for James Bond Theme)
4. Olav Basoski (for Bodyrock)
=5. Plastic Angel (for Run On, German-Only release)
=5. Beatmasters (for Everytime You Touch Me)
Worst 5 Moby remixers:
1. Dani Konig (for the unimaginative & uninspired (my opinion) Run On and
Bodyrock remixes
2. Ray Keith (for the repetitive Feeling So Real remix)
3. John Blackford (US Contest winner for Everytime You Touch Me remix
competition.)
4. Danny Tenaglia (for the goes-nowhere James Bond Theme remix)
%. Rae & Christian (for the waste-of-space Bodyrock remix)
I think this conflicts heavily with an earlier one...
