bri... it's about $43 for both total... avg of $15 for the tickets and then
the **lovely** ticketmaster charge. i don't mind the price.. except that
this is for a small venue. ticketmaster just sucks.. but it's mainly the
only thing there.

Subject: (mobility) Meeting Moby and other stuff
Hi Everybody,
I was wondering. Since "presumably" we are the some of the best fans
moby has and "presumably" he reads this. I'm wondering if moby will
take time after the shows to meet the crowd and sign autographs. Its
always been a goal of mine to meet moby and this is my first chance. So
i'm extremely excited about these concerts. I'm hoping maybe moby
himself will give some feedback on this question. However, i know that
many of you people on the list have met him. I'll probably only get to
go to one concert (6 hours away :( to much driving!!!!!) but i really
want to meet the guy and thank him for his music.
also.......
I have a question... does moby pick the opening band? Or does the
record label? I heard a VERY SMALL snippet of some of boom boom
satellites music and i like what i heard. However you can't judge a
band on 30 seconds of music. Anybody else know anything about them?
Here's what i found on the webpage.............
If electronic music at the end of the century represents the
confluence of different styles, sounds, and beats from
around the globe, few acts embody that spirit of musical
convergence as do Boom Boom Satellites.
On their new Epic album Out Loud (US release 06/01/99),
Boom Boom Satellites showcase their mastery of
head-swirling rhythms, intense break-beats, classic hip-hop
scratching, driving rock guitar, kinetic drum 'n' bass, and
pulsing keyboard melodies. Combining those elements with
the experimental voyages of great jazz, they have produced
an exceptionally rich and unforgettable full-length debut.
Boom Boom Satellites are the Tokyo-based duo of
Michiyuki Kawashima (vocals, guitar, lyricist) and Masayuki
Nakano (bass, drums, DJ). The two joined forces in 1990
while attending college, inspired in equal measure by David
Bowie and Sigue Sigue Sputnick. They named themselves
Boom Boom Satellites after an SSS song and embarked
upon their musical expedition.
In 1995 the duo released a single, "Dub Me Crazy," which
was featured on a compilation by world-renowned
Japanese DJ Fumiya Tanaka. "Dub Me Crazy" garnered
considerable attention for Kawashima and Nakano in
Japan. In 1997, with the European release of "Dub Me
Crazy" and "For A Moment Of Silence," the duo earned
critical acclaim in such publications as Melody Maker, New
Musical Express, and Mixmag, and soon Boom Boom
Satellites were signed by Sony Japan.
The duo commenced their first European tour, including
appearances at such high-profile festivals as Glastonbury
and V-98 in the UK and Roskilde in Denmark. Unlike most
electronic acts, whose live performances are distinctly
secondary to their recordings, Boom Boom Satellites have
carefully crafted their live show from their inception.
Combining live drums and guitar with programming,
Kawashima and Nakano have raised the standard for what
electronic bands can do on stage.
"Dance music's problem has always been the ability to
translate the vibrancy of the studio recording into a more
traditional live environment," Melody Maker wrote of the
BBS live experience. "Boom Boom Satellites have broken
this stereotype. Their live performance is so amazing that
they will turn the shortest set imaginable, leaving the place
gasping, squinting, like a hundred flash bulbs had popped in
front of the audience's faces."
Out Loud is a showcase for an artistry that transcends
boundaries. It's a record rife with ambition and purpose, with
all songs written, performed, and produced by Kawashima
and Nakano. Starting with the vocal and musical swells of
the Massive Attack-ish "Missing Note," (featuring a sample
from James Brown's "Say It Loud [I'm Black & I'm Proud]"),
Out Loud embodies a world in which technology has
rendered artistic borders irrelevant.
"Batter The Jam No. 3" employs soprano sax, turntable
scratching, and programmed flute to create an ethereal
urban atmosphere. Yet there is nothing ethereal about "Push
Eject," a tough, aggressive, guitar-based track with an
anguished vocal by Michiyuki Kawashima.
The group's love of jazz makes itself evident in "An Owl," in
which a hard-bop saxophone glides over kinetic techno
beats to create a vibe both warmly organic and coolly
futuristic. The trance-like effect of this track is soon broken
by the almost metallic crunch of "Oneness," with more
primal vocals from Michiyuki. "On The Painted Desert" is a
bittersweet soundscape featuring the Asuka Strings
entwining with bass, drums, and keyboards?perhaps the
most heart-stoppingly beautiful ambience on the record.
Out Loud has already met with warm praise from the
international music press. Melody Maker called it one of "the
most anticipated records of the year" and "an album to
make or break in '99." Future Music wrote: "This album is
exactly how contemporary music should be at this stage in
its evolution. Out Loud is destined to become a new musical
reference point." And Boom Boom Satellites have made
believers of their fellow artists: Performers as diverse as
Garbage, Josh Wink, Ken Ishii, and Locust have offered
their tracks for remixing by Kawashima and Nakano.
In March 1999, Boom Boom Satellites undertook their first
tour of the western United States, including a set at South X
Southwest in Austin which was the talk of the music industry
conference. In April they returned to Europe for dates in
Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, followed by a short
tour of Japan in May. In short, Boom Boom Satellites have
begun to take their unique new-school hybrid of techno,
rock, jazz, break-beat and hip-hop to an ever-expanding
global audience. Equipped with a head-slamming live show
and the brilliant, eclectic Out Loud, Boom Boom Satellites
offer a glimpse into the expansive present and a limitless,
borderless future.

Well the one time I had the pleasure of meeting Moby I gave him a belated
thanks for the show of his that I attended about 2 years earlier and I
told him how disappointed I was that I didn't get to meet him after that
show and how *extremely* disappointed I was when I found out the day after
that show that he did indeed stick around afterwards in the lobby. His
reply to that was (and I'm paraphrasing now since I've got the worst
memory), "Oh I'm a loser (or I'm lame)....I always stick around after the
show." Awwwww....that was just too cute and I could only grin like a
dork. :) But, no, he's not a loser (or lame) for making himself
accessible to his fans and yes, I too am hoping to get a chance to speak
briefly with him again after his shows (hopefully I'll get two chances if
I can make it the Portland and Vancouver dates....:::crossing.fingers:::).

With this Portland show, what is the date for it? This is the closest
Moby is coming to my "hometown" of Boise, and I can't go if the show
falls between Aug. 6 and Aug. 12 (I hate it when people at work ask for
the time off before me!)
Idaho sucks...

Uh Oh. Well according to the tour schedule at moby.org he is scheduled to
play Portland on Aug. 7th at the Big Stink KNRK. Does anyone know what
that is (Big Stink KNRK)? It's not another music festival is it? Dang, I
hope not....I really hate those, especially when they're put on by lame
alterna-rock stations.
