Hey, being an only child is probably a very nice thing, BUT I am
REALLY glad my three brothers are out there. I learned a heck of a lot
from them (how not to fuck up my life for one!) AND they made my
childhood a heck of a lot less boring!!
As a matter of fact, my brother was the one who introduced me to the
girl I had my first kiss with (and boy was I nervous!).
I believe there are statistics that support the fact that YOUNG
MINORITIES and those people at the poverty level contribute
overwealmingly to overpopulation as well as the welfare problem.

I do not mean to say that it's not important. I've talked to too many
people about this same topic (the pathetic state of planet earth) to which
they've responded, 'oh, I recycle.' As if that's enough! No, my point was
(and I should've stated clearly): Please recycle. Recycling is important.
But, don't stop there. There's so much more to do. For example, please
limit yourself to only one child when you & your chosen mate decide to
procreate. Perhaps that's one of the best long-term gifts people can give
the world community.

FIRST! i have been listening to PLAY for 5 straight
days, nothing else(except twice i let friends at work
pop it in-so i went back the the aphex). MAN THIS
ALBUM IS FREAKIN' GREAT!!!
andrew. cool! thanks for clarifying. very well said.
and on this whole imortality through your children
thing; i'm the last male with my name, and i will not
be having ANY children. my family is aware, and
everyone is pretty cool with it. see, *I* think that
the planet is fucked up, and only getting worse. i
don't really have any desire to leave a being that i
created to try and solve, or deal with, all the
problems that we've created. plus the little things
scare the shit out of me. ^_^
MO. LOVE YA! don't think your an idiot at all!
f. 50 BILLION!! that would(or will?) NOT be cool!!!
but it reminds me a lot of the second best comic being
written today(my opinion, and the first should be
obvious). it's called TRANSMETROPOLITAN. everyone
lives in "THE CITY" and there is VERY little left that
is'nt "the city". the people get cancer vaccines so
smoking doesn't harm you, and they harvest "long pig"
for food. "long pig" is people-like...human beings.
there are lot's of other fun things going on. the
media is out of control. violence runs rampant.
immagrants are aliens, from outer space. and the lead
character(a journalist)who has a two-headed cigarette
smoking whiskey swilling cat, goes around doing fun
things like shooting the president with a bowel
disruptor!! check it out.
Oh yeah! bought "Cosmos". will start reading it
tonight.

ps-have also fallen in love with the song reject.
did'nt like it as much at first.

Subject: (mobility) AR + Play = WOW!
I have been listening to Play for a good 4 weeks solid now (2-3times a day
usually) and for some reason popped in Animal Rights today and was really
blown away. AR is one of my favorite Moby albums (after Move and now Play)
and now that Play is out AR seems even more great. The two albums seem to
complement each other very well. While AR is very angry and aggressive Play
is very reflective and relaxing (for the most part, each album has odd
moments). Both albums have a great flow to then, the track order is very
important to the feel of the album, I do think AR listened to as a whole
from start to finish is one of the smoothest transitioning albums I have
ever heard. Play on the other hand is a more eclectic mix of sounds and
feels., but it still flows well. As with any album from any artist I think
you can really tell where their thinking is at the moment of the album. You
can see not so much a change in Moby's thinking but rather a growth and
experimentation.
I think Moby is at his best while experimenting and one of the main reasons
I have been so into Moby over the years is his constant experimentation and
genre bending albums. he doesn't narrow himself into one "type" of sound,
rather trys it all and pulls it all of very well. Moby is really one of the
most under-rated (in the mainstream) musicians ever I think. Just about
eeryone has heard and liked a Moby track, whether they knew it or not. From
his Film/TV/movie work to his punk work to his DJ...he does it all.
So give me "Play", "Animal rights" and "Move" and I will be a happy camper
on a desert island.

Subject: (mobility) the German Run On 12"
Hello fellow collectors of (rare) Moby sound-carriers and everybody
interested in boring discography info!
The German remix 12" of Run On can be backordered from:
http://www.musicmailexpress.com/
I know Rockhouse is expensive, but hey, it's something...
Here's a tracklisting:
RUN ON [May 1999]
GE 12", Intercord, ?
A1 6:00 Run On (Sharam Jey's Always On The Run Remix)
A2 5:25 Run On (Plastic Angel's House Of Pain Mix) [1st mix]
AA1 10:05 Run On (Dani K÷nig Remix)
AA2 4:00 Run On (Plastic Angel's Celebration Mix)
Here's a review of the Dani K÷nig Remix written by Daniel Cerman (I think..)
Run On (Dani K÷nig Remix)
- --------------------------------------
This rare remix is available only on the US promo 12" and on the German
Run On 12", which you might be able to find if you're lucky. It is long,
minimal,
and repetitive -- probably too much so for the average person. But I think
it's
excellent, and definitely above par. It captures the mood of running on for
a
long time by relentlessly repeating a simple but menacing synth phrase over
a tense, pounding rhythm. Dani K÷nig took a page from Moby's book by ending
the track with an evocative descending string progression. This grand remix
belongs in any good DJ's library.

This afternoon I picked up a copy of the US version of AR at my local
record store (in Holland!!). I was amazed they had the US version!
WOW, what a great song that Anima! I also got my 2 Hymn 12"-es
today (12Mute161 & L12Mute161) THESE HAVE GREAT MIXES!!

Oof, I'm glad you pointed that out because I was kind of confused
myself. I have a little banner about the event on my website that
quotes your info. But the email that I sent was actually quoted from
someone who works at the Sonicnet events department. Human error I
guess. :)
I'm going to trust that Wednesday is the right day but just to make sure
I'll write & see if I can get a response in time.

Subject: (mobility) really deep thoughts
i'm so happy to see all the noise about over population and the planet in
general. i'm sure moby would be thrilled to know he has sparked such a
debate!
i'm sorry if there are people here who want more moby content. if you
want moby and do not want to hear my make some damn good points about the
world (ok, so maybe i'm the only one who thinks so...) then hit delete
now. however, i would hope that there are still some of you here after
this line is done!
ok, just a few quick responses off the top of my head (sorry if i miss some,
but 50+ messages are hard to remember all at once...)
- -YES, reclycling and walking and eating nice smelling food is great! i
think that every step you take to a less selfish life is great. it's
funny to think that being less selfish in this light means thinking more
about how you live your life! however, we all must realize that if other,
more wide reaching problems continue to be ignored, there may be no
people left to worry about them.
i'm always awed by the power of nature, and i never feel sorry for people
who get cought in nature's wrath. i know this is a bit heartless, but if
you live next to the ocean or at the bottom of a muddy hill, you should
expect your home owners insurance to be pretty high. and i realize that not
all of us have a choice of where to live.
- -in my uneducated opinion, i think that best situation for earth would be
to cut the population to around one billion or less, live off the land in
(relitivly) safe areas, and shoot the population run-off to other
earth-like planets. of course, this will only be possible if we live that
long.
- -it's easy to forget about nuclear weapons. anyone can have the power to
turn the earth into ash. what happens when one crazed tyrrant shoots off
his rocket at the united states or the soviet union? they shoot back.
another country miss understands this action and shoots THEIR missles and
so on. everone, no, everyTHING dies. the people left will soon run out of
food because the smallest green plants are all vaporized from the lack of
sunlight and then the lack of ozone layer. from there, the food chain
breaks down quickly. everything humanity has ever done is forgotten.
there will NEVER be another human in the universe. if the earth somehow
manages to repair the damage, the mutations the caused the first cells to
work together won't happen, and something else will emerge. it is very
unlikely to become intelligent. no more music, art, love, hate, sports,
science, fuzzy bunnies, dirty birds, nothing.
- -i don't know what this means for us. what can we do? i have no idea.
however, i think that by learning more about our planet and the infinity
(well, maybe) beyond it is a good first step. i think that many multiple
births taking place of late (like 5 or 6 or 25 at a time) are absolutly
terrible. they were never ment to happen. the issue of zero-popultaion
growth is indeed a tough one. i don't think it's possible on a global
scale. the best we can do is think before we act and plan ahead. i don't
think ANY human can go though life without wanting a child, at least in
thought. we all want to be remembered, and the easiest way is through our
children. we all want our children to live better then we have, to learn
more and accomplish more. the attention needed to raise a child to this
level simply cannot be given to six at once.
- -i'm happy to see that i (and others) have spread the word about carl
sagan. i agree, for these issues, "billions and billions" is probably a
better book. "the demon haunted world" is another the challenges modern
thinking. however, "cosmos" is just a damn beautiful book. GET THE FULLY
ILLUSTRATED VERSION!!! the text is of course the most important part, but
the 250 illustrations and photographs aren't bad either! you get history,
politics, and a lot of science all in one. the 14 part PBS video series
has a lot of stuff that the book does not, and vice versa. that main theme
song gets me every time!
well, thanks for listening.

Subject: (mobility) Multiple Births
You know I'm getting real sick of all of the multiple births going
on lately. I think, personally, that fertility drugs should be illegal.
There is no reason, whether or not you can afford ten kids, to have that
many. I nearly smacked a girl at my school who wanted twins, and said
she'd take fertility drugs if she had to. -.- How sucky. Anyways. But
no, see...of all of the stupid people in the world, these guys piss me off
the most. Most of them end up living off tax payer money, because they
- -can't- support that many children. Beyond that, as few as they are, they
could adopt how many children out there who don't have families? The sick
thing is white families want white children. *shudder* And babies. They
want to impress themselves into these children. I mean, really, I think
the US should do what China's doing, and pass a limit of two children. If
you have more than two *one for each parent* then you give them away to
others. It won't happen...but neither will parenting licenses. See, in
my way of thinking, if children are becoming violent weapons much the same
as cars are, then you should need to take a class and pass tests in order
to be allowed to even -have- kids. And well...it's all nice to hope
anyways, but it won't happen.
I'd be interested though, to see what happens to China in the long
run. They have one child each, so soon there will be no uncles and aunts,
no siblings at all, no cousins...no, I think zero population growth is a
fine idea, but what -you're- talking about is negative pop growth. If
each family has two children, then they've replaced the parents and not
created excess people. Another thing, Japan isn't out of trouble.
They've been digging up Mt Fuji for awhile now, to make more flat land to
expand into, and dumping the dirt into the bay for more land that way.
Worse, that's bad for earthquakes, which, well, they have a problem with.
So no, Japan doesn't need to increase the amount of children they have.
Another factor is that they've only recently had birth control legalized.
I think, given the choice, that many third world countries with access to
birth control would use it, and would see a great drop in population.
Parents don't -want- 10+ kids, whether or not they need labor. It's a
greater drain on the family to have that many children than a help.
And I would like to add, as I've gone beyond what I meant to say,
thanks to whomever mentioned that US farming methods suck. There's no way
we'd survive on our land for very long, we've killed half the insects that
used to do the job of fertilizing, and not weakened the bad bugs any.
The pesticides we use are weakening the environment, and just about any
other country is doing better farming than us. China, to go back, could
take over the world in a day, because they have been farming for centuries
without the aids we use in the western world. And it would be so easy for
them to come into power and simply push us aside...
Well, but enough random complaining. Usually I'm fairly
optimistic, but no....I don't expect much of a future. I don't want
children, and I'm not even sure if I can live where I have my whole life.
NM, like the rest of the world, is killing itself. Greath beauty is being
pushed aside by money and stupidity. The petroglyphs, gone under a free
way because the "white church" was in the way. The river bosque slowly
being eaten away by another one lane bridge that's large enough to have
two lanes except the rich people in the area didn't want it. -.- How
sick we have become. I wish I were an ostrich, then I could bury my head
in the sand. *sigh* Enough. Apologies. pickle
