konichiwa,
agreed. parties were better in 'the good old days'. much more open
mindedness. and I remember far more diversity too. it was at these
early 90's parties where I first heard moby, 808 state, RSW, etc.
can anyone tell me if the James Bond theme remix cd single is worth
buying?

Not forever, but for a long time. All the EIW singles were split,
remember? Into The Blue actually had 3 UK singles, since they changed
the tracklistings on #1 to cut Shining and add the Jr. Vasquez mixes.

Sounds like you made a rush judgement on Honey and quickly forgot
about it. Ditto w/ Run On. The thing is, everybody I've heard from was
shocked and disoriented upon first hearing Run On. At first, it is
very strange. If you don't immediately discriminate against the song
elements, you'll find that both of them are REALLY GREAT SONGS! Give
them some more listens before you decide to hate them.
>I think Honey and Run on should have been conbined not on

Sure it needed to be extended. I like the extra harmony & synth out. I
also think the way Moby samples a little "Yup" right after the last
"god almighty gonna cut you down" at the end is funny. H & RO
combined together? That's a silly thing to say. Unless, of course,
you're making it for Thanks 2. Imagine "All That I Need Is A Morning
Dove", or "Everytime You Feel So Real." "The Slight Return Of God
Moving Over The Face Of The Shining Sea." "Living On A Dead Walnut"
Ouch. I don't think you're going to like Natural Blues, AJ.
AJ, the track listing for Play is at moby.org, as always. Spirit and
Micronesia are not on the album. A much shorter Down Slow is on there,
however.
Welocme to the list, Christian & Russ!
Kohut, thank YOU for putting up with US! I'm glad you're helping Moby
get some exposure in Slovakia.
My friend Tom gave me a big big flyer for the Transformation party
that Moby spun at on April 17th in Ohio. I'm putting it up on my wall
next to my giant ETYM poster and my embroidered logo shirt. He also
gave me a spacer for my 7"s. Very cool, good mood.

fuck rolling stone. they may have said EIW is one of the essential
albums, but they said KLF's "Justified And Ancient" was the number 1
song that they stil cant believe happened. huh???? KLF RULES!!!!!! fuck
them. of course they didnt say Goldie was essential. then again, theyve
never ever said one good thing about Goldie anyway, so fuck them.
at least they gave Beulah a good review. there new cd ROCKS.
i also would like to say that my pal dj pal Rod Richardson is a Moby
fan! i discovered some old playlists of his from his website, and hes
played "New Dawn Fades" and "Move" and stuff like that...
i gave him a few cds for him to borrow and play on the radio but i
havent heard him play anything i gave him yet...
its funny, he had a 8 hour show sunday 10pm-monday 6am. i fell asleep
around 3am, and he hadnt played anything from me yet....
<http://www.wpkn.org> and go to playlists...
also i discovered a phat new radio station. it's Yale's new station on
AM. see, they have WYBC 94.3 (the rhythm of the city) which used to
play cool music at night, when it was student-directed. but last year
they switched to an all rnb format, and it sucked. but they finally got
an AM station, so they can play cool music again. 1340 AM. most of the
day, they actually dont have any djs around, its like they just play
music from a computer or something, but its fucking GREAT music, like
Blur and Tricky and Stereolab and Spinanes and Built To Spill and They
Might Be Giants and the Pixies and Talvin Singh and others....
i even woke up one mornign, turned it on, and they were playing
"Mushroom Compost" by mu-ziq! but next they played Asian Dub
Foundation, so i turned it off. ech. im sick of them...
what? this is a moby list? okay bye!
ps:MAIL SOCKS TO MTV TO GET THEM TO PLAY MORE SIFL & OLLY!!! THIS IS
SIFL & OLLY AWARENESS WEEK!!!

HONEY AND RUN ON (44:41) [11 May 1999]
US CD, V2, 63881-27583-2
1 3:27 HONEY (Album Mix)
2 4:48 HONEY (Moby's 118 Mix)
3 6:41 HONEY (Sharam Jey's Sweet Honey Mix)
4 6:21 HONEY (Aphrodite & Mickey Finn Mix)
5 4:25 RUN ON (extended)
6 6:03 RUN ON (Moby's Young & Funky Mix)
7 5:59 RUN ON (Sharam Jey's Always On The Run Remix)
8 6:40 MEMORY GOSPEL
Here is a run-down of the _Honey and Run On_ CD maxi-single that
will be released in the United States in less than two weeks.
Steve Giles has already posted a detailed description of its cover
art in the Moby fans club on Yahoo, and maybe he'll post it here,
too. Below is a track-by-track description of all the songs.
This is Moby's first CD single released in the USA since _Bring
Back My Happiness_ in 1995, and his first CD with V2 Records.
"Honey" and "Run On" were already released as seperate singles by
Mute Records. The tracks included on the UK CDs and this CD are
different (and good) enough to make it worthwhile to buy them all.
With 44 minutes of music, this eight-track CD is a great value,
and a good preview of Moby's upcoming album _Play_.
HONEY (Album Mix)
This is like the UK single version, but just a little bit longer
at the end. As the mix name implies, it is the same version that
appears on the album _Play_, which will be released on June 1 in
the USA, June 7 in Japan, and May 17 everywhere else.
HONEY (Moby's 118 Mix)
This version is really DJ-friendly. It's faster, more upbeat,
with some changes to the piano notes, etc. It was previously
only available on UK promo items and the UK limited edition 2x12".
A radio edit of this mix is on the UK _Honey Remixes_ CD, but this
is the full mix.
HONEY (Sharam Jey's Sweet Honey Mix)
One of my favorite remixes of "Honey", this lovely track was
previously available only on the UK 12". It has a good standard
boom-tiss beat with a really nice-sounding (like bright, distorted
strings) two-note loop that floats and flits throughout the song.
The only thing this remix has in common with the original is some
vocal samples that were dropped in. But it's a nice listen/dance.
HONEY (Aphrodite & Mickey Finn Mix)
This is the drum & bass remix that is on the UK _Honey Remixes_
single. Cool, but not spectacular. Lots of tweaked-up vocal
samples and some pianos and strings from the original. This mix
has kind of a dark mood, which serves as a good lead-in to
"Run On".
RUN ON (extended)
V2 knows that you can get the original version of "Run On" on the
album _Play_, so they don't waste time giving you a radio edit.
Instead, you get the full extended version from the UK _Run On
Extended_ CD. This starts out with a plain beat (DJ-friendly) and
doesn't fade out at the end. Of the five different edits of the
original version of "Run On", this is my favorite. Good call, V2.
RUN ON (Moby's Young & Funky Mix)
Faster, with a funky beat, this remix is well-suited to club play.
Moby tosses a salad of vocal sample bits over a 303 (or similar)
single-note acid-style bassline. Though it's danceable, there is
nothing really special about this forgettable remix.
RUN ON (Sharam Jey's Always On The Run Remix)
When it started out sounding kind of like a car engine turning
over, I thought this remix was going to be miserable. I was dead
wrong. It's fantastic! Sharam Jey has done it again with this
groovy, funky, infectious remix that packs tons of energy into its
medium-tempo package. This is the funk soul brother of Sharam
Jey's Sweet Honey Mix. Before being released in the USA, this
remix was only available on the German 12" (which I still highly
recommend for its other excellent, rare "Run On" remixes).
MEMORY GOSPEL
This CD maxi-single closes with a reminder that Moby makes great
B-side tracks as well. Originally released on the UK _Honey_ CD
single, "Memory Gospel" was recently used in a well-known Adidas
shoe commercial. Its three-chord string harmony pours out all
over a soft snare beat, accompanied by a piano and female vocals
(the same "hey"s and "yay"s that are on "Graciosa", I believe).
Great instrumental song, filled with introspective emotion. The
track time is misprinted as 9:03. It is actually about 6:40.

Am I "konichiwa"?
Anyway, IMO the James Bond single is no good. I believe there is only
one good remix of the 5 that are on there. What's up with that?!
I would say just buy ILTS (i like to score) if you do not have that
yet since it comes with the Re-version (good version).
Maybe I just haven't listened to it enough, but my first impression
was disappointment.
It sure aint no "Into the Blue" (red version) that's for sure!

Subject: (mobility) hi all!
oh goodness-so much to respond to!
a big THANKS!!!! to all for the kind welcome. i half
expected to get my head torn off-but didnt get
anything negative at all(yet!)very cool!!
hmmm!lets see....yes,the multiple single releases for
one song are getting a little out of hand. but we
musically obsessed people have to deal with that type
of thing. part of it is the import vs. domestic. with
many imports having diff songs(or remixes) and
occasional imports from different countries(not just
uk-i am in usa) having other versions remixes or
b-sides-it can get a little out of hand. and if you
buy the vinyl versions it gets totally out of hand.
another reason is that some artists commision there
own singles-bjork would be a good example. she is now
doing 3 cd sets for her singles and recently
commisioned a 6 12" set her alrm call single. of
course with many versions only appearing on the vinyl
to give you that added incentive to buy! a third
reason is money grubbing record labels lookin for the
all mighty dollar. but artists due want there music to
reach to public-so it happens.
there seems to be a lot of disagreement about run
on-just to add my opinion- i like it-but it does take
multiple listens to really get into. but both singles
do have great extra tracks.
and i love honey!! more & more everyday!
definetely fuck rolling stone!! and most major
publications-and a lot of indie ones!!! dont take what
you read at face value-its only an opinion-and alot of
times its from people that were paid to give you that
opinion. they have no previous experience with the
artist(s) they are writing about. i dont want to get
too longwinded about this(as you can see i ramble on
occasionally)but if other people on this here list
would care to conversate about the "mainstream media"
i'm game.
kohut-your posting is rad!!! beach volleyball in
antarctics- i laughed for 5 minutes-really cool to
know that there are moby lovers all over the world!!
and i play moby(and many types of electronica) for all
my friends. it annoys the hell out of some of them!!
but a few have been converted over the years(slowly!).
all for this one-onto the next.
peace. love.
christian

Think about it--a techno group with a vocal by TAMMY WYNETTE?! That's
a weird combination by any standard. I still can't believe it
happened! I think you're missing their point--not that the record
sucks but that it's just REALLY BIZARRE.

They haven't? What about all those complimentary articles they ran

jayson- i dont remember the c is for cookie song. but
some(many) of those nights are a blur!! don't know of
any raves in your area-but i bet there there-dig
deep-go to smaller record and clothing stores- a lot
have flyers. i would love to go to an east coast
party! have only been to west coast parties. why did
you stop going ?!?!?
andrew-ahh,the good ol' days!! i live in livermore(or
livenomore), were i have resided off and on for the
last 12 years. i love marin though-anyplace across the
san rafael bridge is good with me!! my eventual goal
is to move to the north coast-but the job market sucks
large!! when did you start going to parties my friend?
my first parties were in 90'. i have been told that my
first party was an actual break in-but i wasnt aware
of such things at the time. all i remember is not
being very sober even by the time i reached the
line(hallucinagenics by the way)and hearing this
incredible pounding four/four beat pouring out of the
windows about 15 feet off the ground(south of market
sf for you locals)getting inside and seeing all the
happy halfnaked dancing people gettin down with no
inhabitions. it totally changed me as a person! and i
mean that. from that day on i was canged. it was so
beautiful-so free!!! the first party i remember going
to that had a name was the hig pig spamfest at the
once cool dv8(what happened there?). i was totally
addicted before i ever went to a full moon party-but
that clenched it-free party-AT THE BEACH!! then the
really good production companys came along
wicked, basics, funkytechnotribe and so on. i couldnt
stop. but 92' i was going to 3-4 parties a week. and
as the scene took off- more electronic "bands" came
around
around and i was diggin that too. but the scene
changed!! i dont know what happened-and i've thought
about it a lot!! too many people coming in too
quickly, too much media spotlight. too much
comercialism. too many greedy buisness people lookin
for the quick buck and not caring that they were
ruining what was alreay there. or maybe the blame is
to be placed on the rave culture in general. while a
lot of us did care about the supposed "issues" that a
lot of promoters tried to push on there
fliers(homelessness,food drives,enviromental
issues)there was just as many(if not more) people
there just to get high and dance. and then as our
"scene" became a movement(which it already was in
england and parts of europe)and more companies began
springing up catering to the ravers needs-it was us
that supported them-which was one of the main causes
for the move to the mainstream from the underground.
if no one had given the press all those interviews and
if no one had gone to the new "rave" clothing
stores(and the many others-trying to type quick)
things might be different now-but they may not.
becasue you see-i love the music-and i want it
readally available to me, and i like somr of the
clothes you can get at the "rave specialty shops". so
like i said before-i dont know!
but by 95' i was only going maybe once a month-and
last year i only went to 10 parties(but man the wicked
7 year party was fuckin beautiful!!!!). i will say
that towards the end of last year things where lookin
a little better around our parts. we're just another
sub-culture now. our music has reached all walks of
life(moby remaking the james bond theme-endless tv
commercials using electronic music-anybody catch the
bank of america commercial w/ aphex twin before it was
yanked? way cool!!)and for the most part(accept the
occasional misunderstanding with the law)we seem to be
allowed to just go about our buisness. i still try and
stay away from the larger parties. but the sf raves
calander
http://www.hyperreal.org/raves/sf/calendar/gencal.cgi
has been packed as of late with parties to make ya
drool!! i am especially looking forward to DUBTRIBE at
1015 folsom on may 6th(sucks that the free ggp show
was cancelled though). so-as usual- i've taken up way
too much of everyones time-but hey-free speech and
all.
hope to see ya around andrew-may even know you!?!
peace. love.
