I would like to voice my opinion on comments Chris Kloehr made about
homosexuality. Someone can have sexual encounters with the same sex,
without being homosexual, not that this really matters anyway. Being
either homosexual, bi-sexual, or just confused, is not something that
needs an excuse. If someone finds their own sex attractive, it is
not something that can be controlled. If someone is homosexual, he
or she was probably born that way. Being able to make love to a
person you know and are attracted to is a gift of God, regardless of
what sex they are.
This is how I feel.

Understood. But the lifestyle takes its
cues from the innate desire, not just in a
gay context, but any. So scientifically, no.
I've heard the same thing from gay friends
myself, so I know what you're saying.

You know, if I were Moby and I ready this list often I would just sit and
laugh. Especially when people here pick and analyze to death every single
word he says. Can't anything be taken for face value? Moby says this Moby
says that. Granted this list is intended to discuss Moby related items, but
come on. There has been so much chest pounding and reading between the
lines here over what I feel was probably an aside in the interview.
It is great everyone likes to discuss Moby here, but stop picking so deep.
What if Moby said he likes hot-dogs? I can already see the anti-vegan,
homo-erotic, freudian directions the conversation would take.
I am babbling here, I just think it is rather silly how EVERYTHING is
analyzed and analyzed to the point of obsurdity.
Just a random thought! Or am I having a bad day?
hmmmmm....

Whatever. Anyway, I was thinking last night about the song
"Thousand"... and it occurred to me that when Moby performs it live,
metamorphosing with the pounding of the music until the butterfly sheds
its chrysalis and emerges in crucifix form, maybe this act is in itself
the message he is trying to deliver. Perhaps in the performance of the
piece, we see the intention of the artist as a cry out to the audience:
Lose your COMPLETELY in the music and you can touch God. Perhaps
the statement is that music is the modern day religious experience,
taking us places within ourselves that we could not otherwise reach.
Internalize the sound... like a cocoon enveloping a caterpillar... let
it swell, grow within you... then, in total joy, total bliss, total
spiritual ECSTASY ù EXPLODE. SEE religion, FEEL pure awe, KNEEL before
the power in which you are taking part...
...then breathe.

i agree. we're obsessing a *little* too much here. but it would be really
amusing if moby DID read all the weird tangents we get off on... i've
always had the idea that if for some reason i was famous and there were
mailing lists and websites devoted to me (ego trip! ego trip!) i'd log on
under an assumed name and start rumors about myself, pretending to be a
fan. hehehe...

but isnt' that what fans are supposed to do? over analyze things until we
reach the point of insanity? wasn't it in can't hardly wait (good movie!)
they talked about barry manalo fans obsessing over the song mandy, which
turns out to be about his dog? i dunno... i guess its our job. we're
allowed to go a little insane when it comes to da man...

hey well i tend to babble as well... we're all allowed to babble...
considering how much time i spend answering and reading email, my brain is
mush... so babble is all that comes out sometimes...
anyway, i just thought i'd put in my two cents, as i've been silent for a
little while. one of these days i'll finish my "you know you're an
obsessive moby fan" list and post it... but with a test like that, i think
we'd all fail it ;)
peace.

Really, there's no need to (since others were sharing theirs) but thank
you anyway. <G> Even though I have found this thread interesting (I've
been both shocked and amused) it's time to bring it back to Moby. I
have personally believed that Moby had some gay leanings but at the same
time I wouldn't call him a gay male or even bisexual. "Bisexual" may be
close to an accurate word (who knows, I won't say until I get more info
or better quotes) but I'd just chalk it up to he's had some experiences
and leave it at that. I don't have enough facts or information to give
him a new "label".
Either way, enough of the attacks people! :)
Also... I've been loving the new album (PLAY). I think the majority of
the list will be happy with what they hear. "Run On" has grown to be a
favorite of mine despite my frightened initial reaction, LOL. Once
again, Moby has helped me open my ears to new expressions in sound. As
for "Bodyrock" (the next scheduled single), I'm still not too fond of
it. Not bad in the least but there are some other tracks that strike a
better chord with me. Blah, blah, blah...
Damian.

Hey, i love you guys, and even though I havn't nothing to add to this whole
gay/strait conversation, I did want to say I enjoyed your post, Mike M. It was
pretty good. But my question is this, and totally unrelated yet totally
relevant.
Is there one person on this list besides me who just listens to Moby's music
because they like it? They don't pick apart the songs, count the beats, find
meanings in the words, get moved by the sound, inspired by his essays, care
what he thinks or how he acts, and if they saw him on the street would just
say Hi, I like your stuff and I have a lot of it? Anyone? I am starting to
fell bad that I have about 40 dif Moby CDs and just like it for the music.
Period. Tell me there is someone else out there. Someone who can listen to the
music while eating a hamburger and driving your car alone just cruising with
no where to go? I mean, anyone? I love what you guys have to say, which is the
reason I am on this list. But I just don't care, you know? It is music - to me
at least.
Anyway, Tim, my Run On Psotcard says MAy 17th for Play and April 26th for Run
On. Anyway, Later.

I just thought I'd let myself in quietly. ^_^ Hello, my name is
Anne in RL, and I've gone by all sorts, from Zou, to GinDai Zou *Japanese*
and kitty, of course...thought it's really my mother's account. In any
case, call me what you will. ^_^ *Well, if it's deserved, I mean...eek
^_^;;;* Anyways, I won't have much to say for awhile, first off, 'cause
I'm a highschool SENIOR *yup, a young 'un* and about to graduate in like
10 DAYS!!! So...^_^; Well, and plus *hide* I've yet to actually hear any
music by Sir Moby. ^_^;
I guess I should clarify, then, how I know of him. I saw him,
first, in a magazine reviewing his work, and I cut out the picture of him
*I have this thing for guys with like, no hair or close to it *^^** and
that was like two years ago. Then, yesterday, I picked up a book my step
dad had checked out of the library, a collection of interviews with
various artists. It was odd that Moby was in there, for me, because
"techno," the label I had of him, didn't fit. So I read the interview and
I was impressed and amazed by what I read. Finally someone who thinks the
way I do! Of course with some billions of people on this planet, it was
bound to happen. But it's still nice to know. ^_^
As for other artists I like, the list is huge. I'm a big music
fan, in general, going all the way from the soft side to the hard side and
back again. About the only musics I don't like are ... huh...well, know
of anything arranged by Kirby Shaw? *hide* Okay, sorry, that's a chorus
joke ^_^; But anyways. So basically, you name it, and I've heard of it,
I probably like it. Lesse, though, my faves are Live, Adam Ant,
Tchaikovsky, Janis Ian, Violent Femmes, Jars of Clay, and the Cranberries.
Oh gosh now I feel as if I've said plenty to keep ya busy for
months ^_^; It's been so long since I've been on a list. Basically, I'm
hear to listen about Moby, and I will definately get ahold of a cd as soon
as I can! ^_^ Okay, back to hotdogs. ^_- Oh, no, but really, I'm not a
big meat fan or non-fan...If I had a choice, starve or eat chicken, I'd
eat chicken. But then, ya know. ^_^ Let's just say that the worlds too
big for more words from me. ^_^
pickle
ps did I mention pickle is another name I use? ^_^ *hide* Bai!

Ah, that's how I am with Moby. Toss Moby in the cd player and just drive,
watchin' the scenary flow by along w/ the beautiful music. I like to drift
out at night listening to some of him. Even just playing it in the
background while I write a paper, Moby's music is always good.
I've never been one to deconstruct music, aside from lyrics occasionally.
It never really occured to me. However, I love the views that are presented
on this list. What makes them great is just that - these views of the music
never occur to me.
