If you decide to take the long drive, and find that you or your friend
can't get in, you're welcome to come visit me and listen to some Moby
tunes, hang out, and play some James Bond on N64. I live about 30
minutes from downtown in light traffic, in the suburbs. Write me an
email and we'll talk. I've been talking to another list member in
Michigan who might come for the DJ set, too, so maybe we can have a
little mobility party. Who knows?
Hey delobbo, are you still lurking?

We had a Lopez discussion a while ago, and you're right, it is Moby.
I also have Emptiness/Fucked Up and Why Can't Is Stop.
He released Emptiness/Fucked Up in 1996, the same year he released
Animal Rights. In that year he released several records under other names:
EMPTINESS (12:05) [Lopez, 17 Jun 1996]
UK 12", Trophy, 12Trophy3
UK CD, Trophy, CDTrophy3
1 5:49 Emptiness
2 6:12 Fucked Up
SUGAR BABY (20:21) [DJ Cake, 24 Jun 1996]
UK 12", Trophy, 12Trophy4
UK CD, Trophy, CDTrophy4
1 14:07 Sugar Baby
2 6:11 I Found A Way
THE END OF EVERYTHING (53:51) [Voodoo Child, 15 Jul 1996]
UK CD, Trophy, CDIdiot1
GE CD, Trophy/Intercord Record Service, IRS 972.107
1 6:09 Dog Heaven
2 9:43 Patient Love
3 8:58 Great Lake
4 8:17 Gentle Love
5 6:07 Honest Love
6 7:08 Slow Motion Suicide
7 7:18 Animal Sight
DOG HEAVEN (33:01) [Voodoo Child, 29 Jul 1996]
UK CD, Trophy, CDTrophy5
GE CD, Trophy/Intercord, INT 826.690
1 6:21 Dog Heaven (Lopez Mix)
2 6:53 Dog Heaven (Extended Mix)
3 19:45 Dog Heaven (Long Mix)
YES, THAT'S RIGHT, DJ CAKE IS ALSO THE SAME PERSON AS MOBY
So, I think when *Moby* released a Rock Record (Animal Rights) It would be
kind of strange to also let *Moby* release some underground dance records.
(Although he did that before with What Love when he was releasing his Euro-
Dance like Everytime you touch me.....) So, he did them under another name
I suppose.........I can only guess.
Oh, this discography info comes from D. Cerman.
It can be viewed/downloaded from http://www.moby.org

BTW - the HYMN single kicks major ass. It's MOBY at his Techno best
(even though the "Everything is Wrong" version is kind of ambient). It
has a secret MIX at the end as well. I believe in this CD single was
the first version of "All that I Need is to be Loved" because they
actually ask the listeners for their opinion of the song in the
insert.

Newbury Comics is a great store, huh? I imagine I will be spending a lot of
time there once college starts.I also found the Lopez singles there but have
never seen Hymn, the regular version. I have seen alt.... there though.
Oh, when I was in Hong Kong I finally saw a Moby video! JBT. It was OK, but I
imagine it couldn't be great since the song sucks anyway. Also saw Orbital,
FSOL, Daft Punk, and two Pet Shop Boys video and watched for less than 4 hours
all week. I have a new respect for MTV. Just not the American MTV.
Finally, and this is about as off topic as the gas post, but have any of you
ever heard Faye Wong? If so, please tell me anything. Thanks a lot. Later.

Hey, thats off of "Wrong Number" which is indeed exclusively on the

Sorry but I couldn't resist. Anyway, I have a question. Is there a big
difference between the Into the Blue remixes for the U.S. and the remixes
for the U.K., or is it even a difference not to worry about?
Thanks,

What do you mean by the remixes for the US? All the Into the Blue singles
are originally European and released on Mute. There is CDMute179 which
is an export-cd for the US and some other countries. here's some info:
INTO THE BLUE {#1 for export} (22:14) [Jun 1995]
UK CD, Mute, CDMUTE 179
NOTE: When the Jr. Vasquez mixes became available this CD was
redone as CDMUTE179A, and the CDMUTE179s which were already
made were basically used for export.
1 4:10 Into The Blue (Beatmasters Mix)
[Beatmasters]
2 4:49 Shining
3 7:29 Into The Blue (Summer Night Mix)
4 5:38 Into The Blue (Into The Blues Mix) [Jon
Spencer]
The two UK Into the Blue singles:
original (CDMute179A) and remixes (LCDMute179) together have 11
versions of Into the Blue, so there is a big difference between this export
cd and the two European releases.... The export version does have a
beautyful bonus track (Shining), but that is also on the "enhanced cd" Disk.
Oh, now we're talking about Into the Blue, does anyone know where I can
get the German cd releases? And from Move and Hymn?
I live in Holland (which borders to Germany) and still I can't seem to find
any
German release.....
As allways, thanks to D. Cerman for the Discography info, where would I be
without it....
Bart.

This may be too much trouble for many, but you never know with moby
fans. I bought Moby's UK singles hymn and hymn.alt.quiet.version
from a place online called ROCKHOUSE
http://www.musicmailexpress.com/
You can order online which is simple enough but this place is in
Holland which complicates things. If you are trusting enough of the
postal system they will take US cash and there are several other
payment options.

Subject: (mobility) Play
I now have the final UK release of _Play_ (Mute: CDStumm172)! Some
of the pictures in it are a little silly, but Moby is just being
PLAYful, I guess. :)
I'm now going to get a bit analytical describing the cover art, so
don't feel you have to read this. A picture is worth a thousand
words. ;) Sorry I don't have a scan yet.
The cover is a photograph of Moby jumping. To go into more detail,
it is mostly a textured blue wall. In the lower left, a hand is
seen holding up some strange device that appears to be monitoring or
measuring Moby in some way. Moby is wearing old shoes, white socks,
black pants, and a normal white office/professional/church/whatever
shirt that looks too big and is open, revealing his chest. Moby has
a strained expression on his downturned face as he jumps with arms
raised and legs retracted. He is going off the picture, so you can
actually see only one arm and one leg. Below him is a small reddish
'play' symbol (a triangle pointing to the right). In the upper left
corner of the cover, MOBY is printed in white Honey-style letters
with PLAY underneath it in that reddish color.
On the back of the CD case, Moby is shown in the same setting, but he
is standing still with the open shirt, looking kind of blankly over
in the direction of the person whose arm & hand is shown holding that
unknown device. It has an LCD screen, a few buttons, and trackball-
like thing on top. The album tracks are listed to the left of Moby
in white letters. Each track is preceded by a reddish 'play' symbol.
> Honey
> Find my baby
> Porcelain
> Why does my heart feel so bad?
> South side
> Rushing
> Bodyrock
> Natural blues
> Machete
> 7
> Run on
> Down slow
> If things were perfect
> Everloving
> Inside
> Guitar flute & string
> The sky is broken
> My weakness
The reddish PLAY color doesn't show up very well against the blue
wall background. Actually it's kind of red-orange with a touch of
purple. It's a bright tropical type color.
Inside the booklet, the first page is credits, with a picture of Moby
standing on a city street corner on the facing page. The following
pages have five short essays and a list of quotes interspersed
between more pictures of Moby jumping and standing on his head.
In essay 1, Moby talks about why fundamentalism of any kind troubles
him. "But if we base our belief systems on the humble assumption
that the complexities of the world are ontologically beyond our
understanding, then maybe our belief systems will make more sense and
end up causing less suffering."
Essay 2 concerns the poor treatment of prisoners and also argues that
people should not be locked up for taking drugs.
Essay 3 advocates veganism.
Essay 4 speaks out against allowing atrocities to be commited to
groups of people. "As compassionate citizens we need to be
adamantly intolerant of regimes that openly and intentionally
victimize segments of their populations."
Essay 5 is directed against "supposed Christians who promote the use
of violence against abortion clinics, doctors, the federal government,
and anyone else who rubs them the wrong way."
The quotes are from major figures of various religions speaking
against animal abuse.
The back of the booklet is a large white 'play' symbol against the
reddish background. This is what you see when you open the CD case,
and it's pointing to the CD next to it. The CD is the same reddish
color and has all the song names printed on it.
And of course the music is great! It's generally slow to medium
tempo (the only fast track is "Machete"), but it's wonderful. I'm
going to review it soon, but I think this message is long enough.
I'm pretty sure that most people will greatly enjoy _Play_ when it
comes out.
_Play_ will be released worldwide on May 17, except in the USA and
Canada (June 1), and Japan (June 7). Further information will be
posted at http://www.moby.org/reviews/play.html
