Yes, indeed the Moby remix of Beetlebum on Blur's album Bustin' + Drownin'
is really really really great!! I have the album too. The 2nd cd is a live
cd recorded at 'Peel Acres' (a club?) The other remixes stink except for the
Death Of A Party (Well Blurred Mix) and the Death Of A Party (12" Death)
My CD includes some nice Blur stickers. This CD was originally meant for the
Japanese market, but it is commonly found in almost every record shop in
Holland
(and I think the rest of Europe) The Booklet includes the lyrics both in
English and Japanese and some Japanese text.
Expect a review of the Moby Mix soon! (tomorrow or Friday)

I'm pretty sure 'Peel Acres' is the abode of the legendary
BBC Radio 1 DJ, John Peel. He's one old dude I respect.
Just thought I'd share a bit of useless, non-Moby related
info with you since you put a ? on it.

Capital idea, Bart! I've been flirting with this idea for a while now,
and I think I'll join you. I, however, will probably be doing some of
the more obscure 12" promo type reviews. The good news is that I'm good
at finding things, so if any of you mobility readers see something you
just MUST own, I can proably help you find it. Write me a private email.
>Let's start with the, in my opinion, best Moby remixes I have: the
Fractal Zoom remixes.
These are astoundingly excellent. No exaggeration.
>Available as: FRACTAL ZOOM [Brian Eno, 1992] US CD, Opal/Warner Bros,
9 40539-2
I see this one, the US release, at the Tower Records nearby frequently.
There are also UK CD(s?) that have 3 or 4 tracks, ones that all appear
on the US CD, too. Crippled versions of the superior US release. Forget
them. The US single is definately THE one to buy. It's funny that you
chose this single, I was just visiting Enoweb at Hyperreal before I
checked my email. :)
>?? FRACTAL ZOOM [Brian Eno, 1992] UK 12", Opal/WEA, W0116T
>?? FRACTAL ZOOM [Brian Eno, 1992] US 12", WEA, 9-40539-0
I bought the US 12" from a friendly guy in Hawaii. It has an "Acapella
Mix" of Fractal Zoom done by Moby that I beleive is exclusive to this
12". It's less than 2 minutes long, and I'll write a short snippet about
it tomorrow.
I was listening to Run On this morning while preparing to depart, and on
second thought I think the main verse might go like this:
(lone singer) you might run on, for a long time,
(group of singers) run home, duckin' & dodgin'...
Daniel? MP3 clip listeners? Yea or nay?
Mute's German site is much nicer than their UK one, even though it's
under construction and Moby's page isn't up yet. I hope they finish the
German page and get to revamping the English ones. Moby's pages on the
UK site show nothing of Run On, release dates, or even the double vinyl
for Honey. Shameful!
The second link is just a new page that tells about Early Underground
and Moby in general. Some sort of album feature page.
Finally, the homepage for Tom Rothrock & Rob Schnapf, the guys who mixed
'Run On' for Moby. They've produced several Beck & Elliot Smith albums,
among others. Enjoy! -Steve

hello everyone, i'm torin, i've been a member of this list for way too
long. i hardly ever write in. most likely everyone who is active on the
list now doesn't know who i am or remember me. well any way. i have about
200 unread digests to read and i don't have the time. i would truly
appreciate it if someone would mail me personally telling me about anything
really important. new releases, remixes, comps,or soundtracks.
plus i saw a pic of moby spinning at a rave in florida. does anyone know
anything about this. sorry if you've all already talked about it.
keep listening
thanx

Hello everybody,
=20
This is the second part of the reviews of remixes that Moby did for =
other artists.
Moby did so many remixes for so many artists over the last couple of =
years, so I'm going to
review the ones that I have in my collection. I've bought them very =
recently. So the great thing is,=20
I think all of these remixes are still available, no obscure limited =
promo 12" remixes or stuff like=20
that. No, just (I think) not so widely known remixes that you can order =
at your favourite record=20
shop or on the internet. =20
Oh, the _??_ indicates that I have no idea whether they're still =
available...(mostly the 12" versions)
=20
Here are some reviews of remixes Moby did for Blur (Beetlebum) and OMD =
(Souvenir):
=20
=20
BUSTIN' + DROWNIN' [Blur, 1998] JP CD, Toshiba-EMI, TOCP-50444-5
=20
Bustin' + Drownin' is a whole album, but I bought it just because of the =
ONE Moby remix that is
on it: Track 4 Beetlebum [Moby's Mix 6:42] I'm sorry, I can't =
compare this mix with the one on=20
the Beetlebum CD single (UK CD, Parlophone, 7243 8 84656 25) because the =
record company=20
marked it as deleted.... Does anybody know where (and if) I can order it =
on the internet? (www.ab-cd.com perhaps?)
=20
The song starts with a slow drum rhythm and a soft hi-hat. Then Damon =
Albarn (the singer) starts to
sing "nothing is wrong, she turns me on" Then, very warm and moody =
synths slide in (if you have a
MIDI composing program and a decent sound card try to play some low =
chords with the instrument "warm pad" ---> That's the kind of synth moby =
uses...) Soon the layer of synths start to get thicker
and thicker, getting more harmonic. In the meanwhile a hip hop beat gets =
added to the drum rhythm
creating a beat like in Time's Up by The Brotherhood. Then when all =
instruments come to a climax,
the song falls apart leaving only some deformed voices and after a few =
seconds the beat with a new
rap sample (a heavy voice saying: "wanna get into tha..") Then some =
techno synth is added giving
the song a comlpete different sound. Now we hear a sample of Damon =
Albarn singing "..make you come" and the tension is rising. Then the =
beat stops, the warm synths are back again and the song
procedes in full harmonic strenght for about one minute. At the end of =
the song everything stops=20
except Damon Albarn's sampled voice (nothing is wrong..etc.). It =
continues singing for about 40 seconds. It gives you the chance to get =
used to the fact that this wonderful Moby's mix of Beetle-
bum is really over...........
=20
WARNING: when listening [Moby's Mix] set your CD player on REPEAT 1!=20
Whatever you do, don't allow the CD player to go to track 5 after =
playing the Moby Mix! =20
Track 5 starts with the MOST HORRIBLE sounds that have ever been =
recorded! =20
It would only spoil your great Moby experience of track 4...
=20
Sorry I got carried away like this, but the Moby's Mix of Beetlebum is =
together with Mary's Birthday=20
Mix on Brian Eno's Fractal Zoom my most favourite Moby remix he did for =
another artist.=20
=20
THE OMD REMIXES [Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, 1998] UK(?) CD, =
Virgin, VSCDT 1694
?? (there's probably also a 12" version of this single, I have no info =
about that...)=20
This CD has 3 tracks including one Moby remix on track 2.
Souvenir [Moby Remix 4:40] is the most recent Moby remix I have. It has =
the new Moby sound like=20
in Honey and Run On --> a nice hip hop beat and piano's. The piano in =
this mix is not the same as=20
in Honey though... It's a bright piano with a bit of echo in it, playing =
the melody and not the chords
like in Honey. The Moby mix also includes (I think) the full vocals from =
the original. My experience=20
with remixes by other artists is that if they decide to include the full =
vocals, it often sounds horrible,=20
but with this mix by Moby they fit right in... This mix is also a good =
example of what Moby once said about how he made Honey and Run On. He =
first sought some a cappella vocals and then built a song around them. I =
think he did the same with this mix. The Moby mix has a very melodic and =
a bit com-mercial mid-'80s sound (I cant help thinking about Depeche =
Mode when I hear it), but after 2:30 the
"End of Everything"-like synths come in and transform the song (apart =
from the beat) into a sort of classical soundtrack.
=20
Bart van Eijck
=20
Here's a nice quote (I don't know who wrote it though...)
I'm gonna live forever............or die trying.
