guess what i just got for chanukah last night? go on, guess! i
got........a lifetime sentence, er, membership to the international
spice girls fan club!!!!!!

not!!!!!!

in reality,i got...... the blur double cd import, Bustin + Dronin!
witha  moby mix of beetlebum! yay!!!

now heres the serious part. the mix on this cd is not listed as the
"minimal house mix" i have heard a snippet of the mhm on the net, and
it does not sound much like the mix on this cd. here is what the
bustin n dronin mix is like.

first it starts out with a drum loop (taken from the original song,
not a drum machine or anything) and damon sayin "nothing is wrong, cuz
she turns me on" and then after a while there are these sad strings
that prove him otherwise. (maybe moby's trying to prove him wrong,
considering his album title...god moby's a genius!) the sad strings
build, and eventually the song shifts to damon saying "ooh-ah-ooh" or
something, and there is more texture, and then an mc saying "wanna get
wit it" (who kinda sounds like the guy who says "rhytm is the key as
we open up the door" in hive's "ultrASonic sound"...) and the strings
and synths buil some more. then the music stops and there is just the
tape of sound effects and whatnot damon plays in the background at the
end of the album version. (either moby has some cool filtering devices
or damon actually gave him the tape. i doubt it tho.) for a while
there is nothing but the effects. then there is the drum loop, and the
efx, and the mc. then some more techno-ey efx. then a guitar loop from
the song. then a loop of damon saying (hee hee) "make you come". then
its back to the "nothing is wrong" part like in the beginning, with
the strings. then theres the efx and strings and synths, etc. and for
a minute or so, its just a long loop of damon saying "nothing is
wrong" and nothing else. and its all slow, even slowerr then "times
up". id say its a cross betwwen "times up" (for the slowness and the
mc) and "shining" (for the strings) with a dash of blur samples.

SO THE SERIOUS QUESTION IS:this isnt the "minimal house mix" is it? it
does not at all sound "minimal house". minimal maybe, but definitely
way too slow to be house.

so does that mean that all you extreme hardcores out there will have
to buy this one too?
if so, music box has 4 copies left for like $15! and its a limited
edition, numbered cd!

as for me, ill have to get the import single for MOR. correct?

as for the rest of the cds, its ok. not as good as i expected tho.
therres a few mixes by william orbit (ok, but except for the last one,
which is 15 minutes long, they werent that great. i thought he would
make like a trance version, like some from the madonna cd, like
"skin". btw, orbit's producing their next album.)
plus theres some adrian sherwood dubs (also not as good as could be,
but ok) and a n awesome by john mcentire (tortoise, stereolab, about a
million other "post-rock" bands). his mix sounds nothing like the
original, but it rocks anyway. it sounds a lot like stereolab,
actually. and theres a mix of "essex dogs" by thurston moore of sonic
youth. pretty good actually. i thought he was gonna add layers upon
layers upon layers of gitar noizzzz, but instead he did just the
opposite. he stripped down the track, focsuing on one element of the
song at a time. for a while its the drum machie, then the vocals, then
the vacuum sound effects, guitars, etc. its really good. its hard to
tell which is more stripped down...moby's or thurston's mix.


as for the live cd, its kinda weird, its only 15 minutes long, and
their all short songs. but the version of "popscene" rocks, i like it
better than the album version (that is, it appeared on the american
issue of "modern life is rubbish").
the bad thing is not so much the cost, which is priced to  move, but
the liner notes are almost all in japanese and i cant read anything.
and there is much more japanese than american writing, so i know im
missing sumthin.

Thanks for the awesome breakdown on the mix! Can somebody out there with the MOR single give us the scoop on that one? My guess, Paul, would be that Moby turned in more than one mix for Blur, and they put one on the single, and one on the 2CD remix set. Moby ususally does that, so far as I can see. As for the Japanese writing, if there's a English section they're probably identical. I've got a Japanese U2 CD that has liner notes in both languages, and the Japanese section is bigger. AJ, isn't that you in Japan? What's the scoop on translations?

I'm sick and delerious, but I saw some show on MTV with Matt Pinfield and he's mentioned Moby & James Bond Theme and showed a short clip of the vid. (first I've seen) I can't remember the context. Anybody? I forgot how bad daytime TV is.
