hello everyone,
i contacted DEF to let them know what we were doing and
to make sure that they said it was ok. while they were fine
with it, they can not speak for Elektra's opinions. so, to make
matters easiest....please keep the sampling to a minimum...and if you
do sample, try to cover your tracks. i doubt moby would care,
nor should mute. but elektra may.
also, to keep things as inside as possible, please don't even
contact elektra or moby's u.s. management about this project.
if you have a question as to whether you should use a sample
in a song or not...my best advice is to just not use it instead of
asking one of the authorities for clearance.
now, if i'm not notified that something in a song is a sample,
i'll just assume that it was re-written to sound similar to the
original. one of my eyes is opening and closing rapidly while
the corner of my mouth is pressed titely together....okay....?
also, moby has been notified that we are doing a second compilation,
and he is flattered. i will be sending a few copies to def to thank
them for their support and they will inturn give one to moby in
case we don't get to him first.
that's all for now.
talk to you all later,
ryu

Well yes, I can understand why you ask this. I accidentally
sent it to the list instead of Ryu directly. Now I have to
explain myself, well I don't have to, but...I was sort of
being cynical and sarcastic and you can read into it any
way you want, which isn't very helpful and I should think
of an alternative title if I'm going to be cynical.

Like I already said - yes I do. I would've thought it was
sort of embarassing for Moby actually, but then I might be
wrong and he might be really chuffed!? Who came up with
this title in the first place and why? I can't quite
remember!

It's a saying that means
"thank you for the offer, but I'm just not interested"
or
"thanks for your help, but it didn't do me any good"
something like that

those can sure be alot of fun
but I spend most of my time on the PC nowdays
I would start out by trying CoolEdit96
http://www.syntrillium.com
then give me a personal email
I've heard that "Virtual Turntables" (for mp3s) can be great if
your computer is fast enough
I have not been able to get the beatmatching part working yet though,
and my 200MHZ isn't quite good enough for this to run smoothly
There is another great program you might like called "acid"
it can take WAVs and make easy looping and remixing with all
sorts of sampled loops. Not sure where that is from...
Of course there is also a great synth/drum machine emulator prog
called Rebirth too, which has all the sounds from many Rolands.
For more digital auduio there's SoundForge and Goldwave too.

If I was Moby that title would say to me, "We like your music but we can do
it better, so you might as well let us take over." Thanks 2 Moby, is clever
and not lick-arsey, it's simple gratitude and tribute, not grovelling or
worshipping. Just respectful. It doesn't kiss ass, it insults in a bizarre
ambiguous kind of way.

My sentences got mixed up in that last message. What I meant was, "Thanks
but no Thanks" is the insulting one, and "Thanks 2 Moby" is repectful and
thankful and also does zero buttsmooching. Thank you.

Strange, but fair enough! I never thought it was supposed to be done to 'out-do'
Moby and insult bizarrely!? Maybe a title less obvious but more subtle like, 'United spirit'
(but that might offend people who don't believe we have a spirit?), or 'Global Merge Tribute
- - Moby', or even 'Tribute - Moby', or something like that!? Okay 'Thanks2Moby' - sorry,
thinking out loud!

I like it, but it should be clearly stated Mobility referres to the mailing
list:
MOBY-The Mobility Mailing List Remixes Volume II
(aka MTMMLRII)
or, to shorten a bit..
MOBY-The MML Remixes Volume II
P.S.: I hope to get a preliminary FAQ-draft by this Friday or so.
