Just to say something different for a change - I
also heard Moby (Say it's all Mine) being played in a video
games shop when I was in London, over the weekend. I was
fairly surprised, but pleased that Moby was getting a bit
more recognition (especially as it was from AR, which
wasn't very popular here in the UK, compared to his dance
stuff).

I really vote against having 2 versions...this isn't some major
label where we have a promo version that will be rare-
the whole thing is going to be rare regardless!!!!
If you're thinking it's going to be worth money someday or something
it won't, only official releases will and even then....rare
would be anything under 1000 copies (maybe even more)
Which reminds me, I think that it WOULD be a
> good idea to re-release Thanks 1. I joined the list right towards the
> end of it's cut-off point and I know that there are people out there who

I'm a bit confused as to what the reasons are for not letting
someone re-release Thanks I....how many copies were made?
And another 20 or so copies would somehow change anything?
I also think that unless Thanks I can be made available also,
there is little reason to name the new compilation Thanks 2 or
whatever...we should just pick a new name.
Also, I think it should be (and really is) up to the artists that
contributed to Thanks I whether or not to make more copies-
after all they could all submit thier songs again and someone
else could just make a new version of it anyway.
If we do decide to go with the Thanks title as part of a series,
then my vote for this CD would be "Thanks Again"
I'm sure no one will mind us making our little CD if it's just
for people on the list and maybe a few extra, but you must realize that
if you intend on trying to sell the CD through proper channels
there is a big problem called "mechanical liscencing" which is
a fee that must be paid to the songwriter whenever a song is
covered and a CD sold...the Harry Fox Agency handles these...
Also, even more difficult would be liscencing any samples of moby
songs used for remixes or whatever- the record company holds all
the rights to the sound recordings and would probably not give out
permission without first hearing the material and then probably only
if it was being released by an established label that was planning
on conpensating Elektra or Mute for the use of said samples....
Dont mean to bum anyone out, but this is just a small project for
the listees or else it's much more complicated....so no matter what
Thanks I and II will always be very rare since no one will ever
be able to find it in stores.
The fact that RYU's label is non-profit goes a long way toward
making this a legit project too, after all the laws are designed
to stop people from making a profit by exploiting artists and that
is obviously not the intent here.

all i can say at this point is hang tite people...hang tite.
in the wise words of hulk hoagan, "say your prayers and
eat your vitamens, and maybe...just maybe one day you'll have
the option to buy thanks I again." that's all i can say.
interpret it how you will.

this will not happen. we are not going to use a distributer or
anything of the sort. there won't even be any consignments made
with local record shops. this cd will only be available over the net,
and will mostly only attract the attention of us here on the list.
most other people probably wouldn't care, but i want to give them
the chance anyways.

kinda Wesley Willis- or King Missile-like (i bet aalmost nobody here

wesley willis is the man! his songs make me laugh till i cry! i saw him play
in austin over a year ago and he's got some stage presence. he had a sore
throat and kept spraying clorospectic on it in between songs. then he'd get a
few seconds into a song and sneeze and start over. i always wondered what
happened when singers had to sneeze or cough or something. he had a bunch of
his drawings of chicago to sell but i had no cash on me. very cool guy.
btw-saw massive attack play last night and it was beautiful. i was near the
wall of speakers and the music would sort of hit me in waves, i mean
physically. they played three sets and included old goodies like unfinished
sympathy (which made me think of moby's unfinished symphony) and safe from
harm as well as some stuff from mezzanine.
rock over london, rock on minneapolis...

I'll drop some cash for the project. Since it's non-profit the cost will
basically be for the costs. If all goes as planned I'll be reimbursed. If
not, no sweat. It's only money. I also think 1 version would suffice. And I
like "Thanks 2 Moby" for the title.
And Ryu, You can bet I'm eating my vitamins and whatnot and trying to figure
out what that message meant exactly...
Did anyobdy check out that Jill Greenberg site? What did you think? BTW, she
did the photography for Hymn, too. Mondays suck.

Sounds like a good plan, I think taking advance orders starting
Thanksgiving (maybe we should call the comp Thankgiving?) would help
make things run more smoothly for Ryu when he's ready to start
printing CDs.
Since I'm planning on contributing some audio, I will not submit
any artwork although I'm so tempted...
My best idea so far I think is to make a DJ sort of remix song,
like the Depeche Mode- Megamix, with an albums worth of songs
mixed into a ten minute medley with my own tracks going behind that.
Anyone have any objections to that?
If we don't get enough submissions to fill the CD, this would be an
easy track to extend further too...
Then again maybe a good cover would be fun, I was thinking of an
Alex Patterson style dub/tripout mix of one of his songs would
be fun, and I have the echo unit to do the job- Roland SDE-2000.
I may use that in the medley instead, we'll see.
OK, I babbled- I couldn't sleep so I took it out on you all, sorry!

hey everyone...
I feel like a real dolt cause I'm sending this in after the topic died
down... BUT I finally heard the full version of Honey (as opposed to the 30
second clip, which was all i had heard before cause I live in the Great
White North and the CDs I mail ordered haven't arrived yet) so I thought
I'd throw my two cents in. I like it. Its totally different than the
music I listen to on a regular basis (KMFDM, Aphex Twin, Pop Will Eat
Itself, Crystal Method, Plastikman, NOFX, Bad Religion... and oh yea. Moby.
hehe) but still its got this really neat groove to it. I actually found
myself dancing to it by the 4th time I listened to it. Okay I know I know
I know... I'm a little raver girl and I'll dance to just about anything
when the feeling strikes me, but has this phenomena happened to anyone
else? Uncontroable dancing to Honey? hehehe
Well that's enough babbling from me on my day off skool. lates...

Yo its me again.
I should have added this little question on to the end of my last post but
I forgot. So sue me. Just wondering. Its there an ICQ users list for
Moby fans (or obsessers like me)? I haven't found one. If there isn't one
I can start putting together one I guess... Considering I've already done
one for peeps who go to my school. Its a pain in the butt, but if there
isn't one now, I guess I can start collecting the info and giving it to
whoever wants to post it someplace... BTW, my # is 4276901 if anyone wants

I find myself stampin my foor or tappin my leg. Especially to the original,
like when the honkeytonk is in full effect. You're off school? Is it
Institute day? I heard from somebody that students are off for Rosh Hashanah
in some places....
Moby was given the 1st Thanks CD. I forgot who gave it to him, but I beleive
he commented postively on the rendition of "God Moving Over The Face Of The
Waters" that was on there. The only song I've heard from that CD is Ryu's
"Unloved Symphony", which is on one of his CDs. Quite good, too. I look
forward to hearing more demonstrations in the realm of audio psychoticness
from you Ryu, stuff like "I Need Someone". That rocks.
If anybody wants to buy a Next Is The E 12", let me know, I have an extra.
Promo or release minus picture sleeve, your choice.
So what's the scoop on these OMD remixes? Isn't this an old song he's doing?
I saw a "Souvenier" at a store listed w/ an eighties release date. What kind
of music is OMD? Any info appreciated.

i talked to moby the day after xaq gave it to him, and he listened to it on
the trip from minneapolis to chicago. he said he was very impressed with
the fact that someone had taken the time to learn the entire song of "god
moving..." and was happy with the rest of the album. i think in his
humility, he was a bit embarrased that fans had put together a cd of HIS
music for HIM. i also talked to pablo, moby's on stage percussionist, and
i can't recall if he said he had heard it for sure or not, but he had seen
it on the bus...
just a little story for you all...
