In my opinion, the world of hip hop has really gone down hill, sort of like
punk music...
You really can't judge rap by Puffy and Biggie though...they really can't
hold anything to Public Enemy, Run DMC, etc, or even to 2Pac, who actually
did seem to have some talent and would occasionally put out a song that
wasn't just worthless shit...To me, it would sort of be like judging punk
music by Green Day and Offspring. just because punk's current incarnation
sucks and is full of lyrics about smoking pot, masturbation and other inane
topics doesn't mean that punk music as a whole has always sucked.
For every Chuck D there will always be a Puff Daddy. For every Jello Biafra
there will always be a Green Day. For every Nirvana that comes along, a
Bush will follow. And yes, there are even weak, fake-ass derivatives of
Moby out there. It unfortunately seems to be the nature of things...

Anybody recognize this name? She did the photography for Early Underground
and something else as well. I found her graphic arts page on accident, and
there's some weird Moby pictures as well as lots of other awesome music art
stuff. Go there.

first of all, unless you're out for the Mute cat# (which i admit, i buy
stuff for it's cat#), you're better off with the US release of Move than
the UK one. the US release has 6 tracks vs. the UK's 4.
actually, this brings up a question i've had. can anyone tell me why
record stores insist on selling move at an album price instead of a
single price? granted, it's an "EP", but it's only 6 tracks, not 10.
everywhere i go has it for 10$ or something when usual singles sell for
6$. i just don't get it.
anyway, hopefully someone will be kind enough to pick you up a copy of
move US or point out where you can get it online.

Hell no! Among my other ideas, I was also considering an acoustic "Love
Hole" or getting my friend Amy Lee from the goth/emo band evanescence to
sing over the instrumental version of "When It's Cold I'd Like to Die."
Ack. Too many ideas. I've always though a ska version of ETYTM would be
interesting. ;).
By the way, I'm posting a lot of ideas I should probably keep to myself.
Please don't anybody steal them.

good point.
would anyone object to this idea?
voting for best artwork and track selection?
i think both are good ideas.
the only downside i see is that there may not be a whole lot of material
to pick from and also that it would take up alot of web space...that may
not be a problem though.
would someone be willing to house all the voting on one site?
it would be easiest that way i think.

the webpage idea will certainly be implemented...
i think it would be best if the voting for the artwork was on teh same site
as the voting for the music...or at least all the links were on the same site...
as for different versions of artwork...i'm not so sure that is a good idea.
it creates alot more work than is necessary i think. we should try to keep
this as resonably simple as possible just to eliminate some headaches.
what do the rest of you think? would you really want to see muliple
versions of the artwork?

to do that would cost more money...namely because (depending on how many
folds you want) we may have to work with a printer to get it done
properly. it is cheapest and easiest (i think anyways) to have all the copies
done at kinkos or a similar copy center. they can do double-sided art. color
artwork is very expensive in itself. i'd really like to keep this cd as
cheap as
possible. as of rite now, perhaps we should plan on just making it a one
square,
front and back, layout...plus the back traycard with spine folds...
>submissions then ever dream of using. And finally, I was wondering if you guys

i do'nt have an adequate printer to print out cd labels, but i use cdRs that
are made to take labels. if whoever is doing the artwork would also like to
design cd labels, and print them out in mass quanitites without getting paid for
it, then that would be great. otherwise, the cover of the cd will be blank with
only the title and serial number on it.

Subject: (mobility) A SUMMARY of the THANKS 2 compilation
i'm glad that we're getting so much feedback on the new comp,
but it's taking up alot of bandwith...so i figured that instead of
replying to each email to the whole list, we should try to keep
the not so pertinent conversations restricted to private emails.
so i'll just post an update every now and then letting the list
know what's going on. unless it is a matter of voting or
group feedback, try to mail me personally (ryu97@psu.edu).
here's what we have so far:
SUBMISSION DEADLINE = Thanksgiving Day
SCHEDULED RELEASE DATE = as soon as possible after that
FEATURED ARTISTS = too early to say. about 5 people have
shown interest so far. will be
voted on to decide exact track listing.
FORMAT = cdR
LABEL = Sho Records (www.personal.psu.edu/users/jwz109)
ARTWORK = will be voted on to decide which is best
will be on panel insert, double sided, color, plus
a color tray card for back of jewel case.
AVAILABILITY = it will be made available to anyone, but submissions
will only be accepted by list members.
we still need a definite response as to who will house the audio
and visuals for the voting aspects.
this person must be willing to commit their time to the project, and will
of course, be noted in the liner nots of the cd. credit will be given
where due.
all this is subject to change....nothing is permanent.
if anyone wants to state their opinion, or has an idea, please contact me.
thanks for your patience with this.
you'll all be hearing from me with more info soon,

I might be able to host the information for the album on a server of mine
for a while. I'm assuming it will only need to be there for a few weeks or
so--enough time to let everyone vote right? If so then it'd be no problem.
I've got several 100 mb free, and can even set up some system to process

hey guess what. i said my dad was buying some honey the other day?
well he bought in one of those plastic thingys in a bear shape! cool...
and heres some thanks2 ideas i have,
i was thinking of doing a tribute to moby, like not a cover or remix,
but a tribute. i wrote these lyrics, im planning to loop a sample from
"Lovesick" (in case ya dont know this one its a fast punky song, about
a minute long, from the revolver single) and sing/rant/shout/whatever
these lyrics i wrote...just kinda MOBY RULES stuff and shout outs and
a chronology...one verse about his early techno trax, a vers about
EIW, a verse about AR, you get it...with some select moby samples
thrown in....and i forgot who posted this, steve giles maybe? that
"Moby Moby He's our man, if I can't do it he sure can"? well....i
incorporated that in the song!!
well i was also thinking of doing a lo-fi improvisational
thingy...just me banging on some hand drums and shouting out things,
kinda Wesley Willis- or King Missile-like (i bet aalmost nobody here
knows those groups..)
well any
way those are my ideas....kool? kool...
bye now
