I thought the movie sucked, and I couldn't figure out why he did it except
that it was done by MTV and maybe he wanted to get airplay? I don't know but
it is cool to do a cameo even if the movie is Joe's Apartment. And, I like the
Spice Girls, I just don't like the reject spice girl who though she could do
it on her own. Later.

ok.. now i feel like a shmuck because i haven't even bought that loom yet
for the bracelets. i've been too busy with work and school and car
repairs to even try to do another thing. maybe this weekend, i hope. i
will get it, i promise... even if i have to crawl down there. just
kidding. i would have gotten it last payday, but i had to pay my parents
the difference they covered to get the carburetor rebuilt in my car and
get the oil changed, etc... and go to work, so i never got a chance to go
down there and get the loom. but enough excuses, right? oops.. i'm
apologizing again, aren't i? i bet you're pissed now. SORRY! :)
now... i think this list is getting out of control again. i remember the
religion controversy, and now there's this one. granted, i like getting
all this mail because i feel special- but it says the same crap over &
over again. ::sigh!:: i wonder if damian is going to step in or if this
will continue. babble babble babble... blah blah blah!
anyways, i'll apologize a zillion times again because i really do feel
bad about this. sometimes i wish i had a twin to go to school for me and
such. and, college ain't exactly an easy life, especially when you have
to get a research paper done in a week! ARG!!!! so..... enough
rambling. gotta go and study and try to think of something for that
damn research paper... one that i don't have to think about. but first,
gotta watch the simpsons!! hee hee!

Hi everyone..
If any of you have seen the music video Moby did of the James Bond theme,
I'm sure you'll have noticed the funny expressions moby is wearing on his
face, escpecially when he runs in front of the fountain.. It makes me crack
up every time I see it..Is there any meaning behind this, or is it more or
less Moby having a fun time?

Subject: (mobility) Hip Hop?
Hello all, first I have to apologize for kind of bad mouthing Replay
Records. They finally came through for me and charged me less than 12
dolalrs for both Honey's +s/h from the UK. They are pretty cool and I will
probably buy from them in the future, so everyone should patronize them.
Anway, I got both Honey singles yesterday and I have to admit it is not what
I expected.
On many occassions and descriptions of Honey, people have categorized it has
having aspects of "Hip-Hop". By no means do I consider myself a critic or
musical genius or anything, but what aspects were "Hip-hop"? NONE!!! In my
opinion the song exhibited characteristics of Blues(the guitar riff),
Rythme, and Soul(Bessie Jone's voice sample) and of course the traditional
moby techno beat and in the transtions ambient synth.
Maybe I have a misconception of "hiphop". I usually thing of so called
artists like Puffy and B.I.G. when I hear that word, late 90s rap music.
But this represents, to me at least, a frightening trend in music today.
That is, vaguely categorizing all black music as "hip-hop". Before the 90s
and even in the early 90s black music was easily, if still generally
categorized into rap, soul, blues, rythme, etc.... but in today's market, I
only hear the term "hip-hop" for any current artist. This label is even
applied to "old-school" rap. WHY?!?!?! I realize that music, especially
individual artists and tracks should not be compartmentalized into rigid
categories, but why are generalities becoming more and more general? True
black music before the 90s was rich, alive, soul, blues, jazz, REAL black
music.
In my opinion this represents the sad state of music today, particularly
black music. The meaning of and sound of good music, inspiring, original
music is being lost to the almighty dollar. But the studios aren't to
blame. It is the mentality of the American public that comsumes this tripe
passing for music. From catchy bubble tunes of the Spice Girls and Hanson
to the monotonous guitar rock of 3rd eye blind and such. "modern music" is
intellectually and emotionally bankrupt. Radio has lost its independence
and feel for "what the public wants" Play lists are created by what
marketers believe will keep the listeners tuned past the all too often and
equally devoid commercials. Instead of finding a station that plays decent
music(mostly because they are all the same) or putting in a good moby CD
people remain ignorant of really good music mostly because they don't make
the effort to judge and search out good music.
What are the consequences? Most bands fall into the trap of the one hit
wonder genre. Those who don't are so scared of becoming part of that genre
that they churn out essentially similar sounding tracks so as to keep the
record sales going(this not only demonstrates that these "artists" have no
sense of creative originality, but also no talent period). Instead of a
track becoming a timeless classic it's life span is reduced to about 3
months or less. People's favorite band or favorite song of all time changes
as the billboard charts change. No individual is truly appreciated for
their talent or abilties. The music industry becomes one based purly on
profit and nothing else. The "public" is robbed and stupifed by mainstream
music and never develop the critical mind and ear for better music.
This is why Moby is not more main stream than he should be. This is why
entire genres are ignored altogether by moshing morons and dance club
dunces.
What is wrong with this country? Music no longer becomes true, black,
white, or otherwise when the intended audience is created to merely sell
records, not to sell the actual music. REAL black music is Fats Domino,
Louis Armstrong, BB King and the like. Hard core gansta rap is no longer
truthful when it comes out of the mouths of millionaire billboard artists
that have never picked up a gun or had a hard day in their life. Black
music is no longer black music when 99% of its listeners are white. Music
is no longer music when it has been perferted and prostituted to the
almighty dollar. Artists should be rewarded based on their talent not their
abilty to sell records.
My two cents. Please refrain from the term "Hip-Hop" when describing Honey
i'm interested in hearing peoples responses on this issue.

i'd be happy to take the responsibility with this project
if no one else wants it. haven't heard from anyone telling
me that they wanted to do it.
i can accept all masters and compile them and then master
the compilation on cdr. but i'm not especially proficient at
making artwork. if someone would like to do the artwork,
and send me the master copies of it, i can make kinkos of
it and put it all together.
i suppose what i need to know first who all is interested
in contributing, and which tracks each person would like
to do....remixes, covers, etc... it would be best to mail me
PERSONALLY with what you'd like to do, and once everything
gets straightened out, i'll mail the list with a "who's doing what"
message so that everyone can start salivating early.
deadlines.... shall we make this a christmas present for moby again?
like last years? why not say the beginning of the second week of
november for a due date for now. that's november 9th. does
that give everyone enuff time? that will leave 3+ weeks to get
it all together and ready to give to moby and to start selling
to the public by christmas.
oh yeah, i can do a cdr with b/w insert for $5 including shipping.
that is how much it costs me to make. i use QUALITY cdrs
designed for pro audio applications. for color inserts, it would
cost $7 including shipping. we can decide on color or b/w later
i think.
also, i would like to make it available to everyone, whether they
are on the list or not. i'd advertise it on my web site so that
anyone can order a copy. does that pose a problem for anyone?
again, i don't want to rob anyone who has already spoken of this
project. i hadn't heard anyone say they wanted the responsibility,
so that's why i spoke up.
i'm open and flexible to anything anyoen has to say. i'm just
giving some of my ideas so far....we can work it out together.
so give me feedback as to who's interested and so forth...
thanks,
ryu

I agree. Pretty bland statement by me, yes, but I think you've just
about got it right. Music is about money anymore, and the artists and
bands that have real talent are stuck in the void of being
"gimmickless", and therefore labeled as unable to sell. Occasionally,
real talented bands breakthrough, but most never become real big.
Anymore, most bands are one-hit wonders, and that's sad, because most
good bands don't even rise to that because they are relatively unknown.
As always,

RYU,
If you want to head up the manufacturing and distribution of the second
project, I say that's a good idea. You've self-released two quality projects
and know how to do it in a well-organized fashion. I wouldn't mind helping
with the art. I want to contribute in some way, be it a new edit or mix as
tribute or finding some funked up image to put on the front and helping with
the typesetting. I also vote for color art. US buyers can have the cd
delivered $1 less than the first, and have something that looks as good or
better.
You might also want to talk to Gingerbread Man about licensing the first
Thanks cd to SHO records for distribution since probably more people want to
buy copies now than were able to buy it in its first run.

Just to let you know, I've got some nifty plans for THANKS II. First is a
new edit called Oil 1+2=3, that combines Oil 1 from the Saint with Oil 2
from the outtakes cassette. This will be a true test of my editing skills.
I'm also working on a kind of recreation of C3Bells from MixMag2 by taking
Myopia from Ambient and layering on an 808 kick and the drum loop from the
ETYTM samples, much the way Moby did it, except mine will be full minute
longer and not mixed with a song after it. But first I have to get the loop
timed correctly. I don't think the BPM listings I pulled of the internet are
correct. The loop comes a hair slow when pitch it down to what the COD says
Myopia is. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, though.

I don't know Michaela, maybe we've typed the same
old crap over and over again before we got onto this
subject!? This is the first time we've really got into it
(since I've been on the list and I'm sure many people

what's usually talked about, but then I would say that and

I think a good idea is too have a small web page with all
the submitted artwork and have all the listees vote on the
best art for the cover/insert.
I think color is worth it, I vote for color.
I vote that Ryu be in charge of the whole production,
possibly having the CD mastered professionally would be
a big plus too.
If we have more submissions than we have room on the CD,
we should have a web page with realaudio or mp3s of the songs
and all the listees could vote on them to decide who gets on.
Having it ready by christmas is realistic, having the final
deadline be thankgiving. This of course depending on how many
submissions there are by mid-november.
I could make and host any of the web pages needed, and I encourage
any of you who make elecronic music to participate in this!
