Hi guys,
First of all, I apologize to Christopher Bourke for screwing up his
email and having to send it twice. A word in the email text caused the
list filter to bounce it for my approval and I messed up sending it
through the first time. Eek.
But I do have something good to share. Last night I went clubbing and a
most excellent night it was! There's a local club that I go to almost
every Friday night where they have three rooms. The first room it
mostly commercial/retro crap that plays a few good tunes on occasion.
The second room isn't worth mentioning, it's screwy. But the third room
is awesome. The DJ plays the kind of stuff I like to hear... tends to
be house music but not on the deep end.
So I'm sitting down trying to get the sweat to dry off because I've been
dancing too hard and for too long when this great tune comes on. I'm
only halfway sober (eek) so all of my faculties aren't quite there.
Anyway, I'm hearing this tune w/some chunky piano, heavy beats, and an
echo of some instrument or sound. I sat in this chair with my eyes
turned up looking to the sky and my feet starting to dance below me. It
takes a minute or two for me to realize that it's the Westbam and Hardy
Hard mix of HONEY playing!!! As soon as I clued in, I went ballistic
and rushed to the dance floor only to hear the last minute of the song
play and be mixed out. :(
Funny thing is... when I first realized it was Honey... I couldn't
figure out what mix it was. But it sounded terrific! It made my night
and I should have thanked the DJ.... last night, GOD WAS A DJ! (I've yet
to hear the new Faithless tune)
When I first heard the Westbam/Hardy mix it didn't stand out at all.
But I listened to it a few more time because I knew it was Westbam and I
had to have missed something. The mix grew on me and I ended up
enjoying it quite a bit. However, hearing it last night at a club was
mind blowing. It was perfect. And shocking too since the single hasn't
been released in any form in the US. I've gotta meet that DJ!
Okay, I think I've gone on for long enough. Have a good day everyone!

What a killer story. Went out clubbing myself last night and had the best
time I've had in weeks. Jett, the DJ, who usually plays house and big beat
stuff, was in a retro mood and loaded his set with lots of new wave and euro
pop remixes. When he went from Blondie's "Heart of Glass" to Eurythmics'
"Sweet Dreams" to New Order's "True Faith," I knew I was in heaven. I danced
for two hours straight, and when I left the floor to use the facilities and
get a Diet Coke, I couldn't hardly walk unless I kept moving my legs to a
beat. Some other DJ came on around 2 and started playing a lot of Deep House
and big beat, which made for a good excuse to dance all slutty with the
person I was with.
Jett dropped in Moby's 118 Mix of Honey a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't
get to dance to it, because I was the one who brought him the cd. So I was
stuck in the booth with him while he played it. I would've been down on the
floor, but he mixed it in as soon as I handed it to him. I cued up the
Westbam/Hardy mix after I read Damien's message, and, man it does slam! I've
been mostly paying attention to Moby's mixes. But I cued this one up and
turned the volume and the sub wa-a-ay up and let it fly. This would rule on
the dance floor. Aauugh, if i only had it on vinyl, I know it would be in
total rotation at the club I go to.
Jett's a big Moby fan, but he doesn't drop him in nearly enough. Maybe
because Moby hasn't done primarily dance music since EIW. I'd love to hear
some of the Hymn mixes played sometime. Or Honey. Or Revolver. Hell, Go
would send me into a frenzy.
That said, the thing I've been enjoying in clubland lately are the remixes
from Madonna's *Ray of Light.* The Vito Calderone mix is what they play the
most. I love Orbit's Liquid mix. And Sasha's ultra violet is really good
once it starts to cook about four minutes in. I'm dying to hear the mixes
from Drowned World/Substitute for Love. Especially the BT/Sasha mix. Anyone
else out there heard it yet?

Jones has got herself an email ... :-?

I have one mix of the Mighty Dub Katz- Magic Carpet Ride
its the Ulti Mix.
Absolutely no similarity to the Steppenwolf song at all,
but then again it's a remix (but I think I would notice
if there was any connection at all)
Anyway, not that impressed with it either way

Besides for Moby, I have never heard of any of those people. What kind of
music is that? I have a feeling it is heavy, but I don't know. And, IF there
is anyone who wants to buy a James Bond Limited Ed. Promo with 54(?) sec audio

thanks for noticing. Some of it's heavy. My motto is I try to change the
station before you do. So, I play a mix of "alternative," punk, ska, techno,
goth, industrial, and a good dose of metal (because the kids like it). Also,
nearly all of the artists are Christian (in the sense that they believe in
the Deity of Jesus Christ, not that they ascribe to any religious or
political agenda).
Hopefully, one day we'll be on the web so everyone can listen in.

First off, Brad, I liked (for the most part, but I won't mention the stuff
I don't like) the playlist. Very in tune with the kind of stuff I play
(although, unlike most people here, I don't have the "Honey" single yet,
and neither does my radio station).
Second, I noticed this:
> Appleseed Cast "Marigold & Patchwork"
And you didn't put emo into your list above! Just kidding
around...Appleseed Cast (along with the majority of Deep Elm Records'
bands) is very good....well, but since I'm starting to get into emo-core
music, I guess I'm biased. But everyone should hear "Writing It Down For
You," by Pop Unknown. Sure, it ain't electronic...but it's a sweet song.
Okay, I've wasted everyone's time for long enough. Take it easy.

I got mine at (the now closed) "Music Land" for $14-15 bucks in person.
I'm in milwaukee (which is fairly booooring as far as record shops,
and clubs are concerned)and I *think* it is still available at other
stores here for cheap. I think it's more at CD Now, actually it seems
like CDnow is slightly expensive. speaking of EIW; I think someone may
have mentioned this before but what is the 2nd CD from the 2CD EIW like?
is this ambient music? bye.

Still no response from that reviewer of "Sounds Of The South".....
Damian, I wish our local rave DJs would play Honey, I suspect it's being
heard in clubs, but alas, I am but 19 years old and cannot enter that
potential paradise. I can understand what you mean when you say it fit
perfectly...the Westbam mix, that is. I liked it right off the bat, despite
it's simplicity.
Dr. Paul, :) thanks for the response on the Dub Katz. I got it and was not
impressed either. Didn't measure up to "It's Just Another Groove" at all.
(other members: you may have heard this, it goes "I think that we should get
back together-gether-gether-gether....)
Hey Jonathan, Bessie was recorded in the 50's, despite Moby's maneagement
saying the 30's...the 30's was when Alan Lomax started off w/ his father
travelling and recording. Either way, if she's still alive, I doubt she's
online. I could be wrong....
Does anybody know if Dog Heaven (extended) is close to the original? I
loaned out my VC CD so I couldn't check, but the extended mix on the 12"
sounds lots different than I remember. Of course, I did hear the lopez mix
1st on Maximum Electronica, so I may be delusional.
Who's got the scoop on Moby's mix for Soundgarden? Anyone heard? I'm in a
bidding war for it, and it's going to my opponent unless there's a good
reason to spend too much money on it. The song is "Dusty" on "Blow Up The
Outside World" I don't see this often, I have no idea how common it is. Did
the person who saw the Depeche Mode mix on bootleg hear it? Or see a listing
for the source of that material?
bye now

No, the Extended Mix is not that close to the original. Actually, all
5 versions of "Dog Heaven" are fairly similar to eachother, but whereas
the original (UK) version is slow and floaty, the Extended Mix is fast
and dancey, with a cool beat and some added/changed elements.
