man, all i was saying is that i myself prefer buying my music in stores
rather than off the internet, even if it means that i can't get the
newest import singles, or whatever. What i was doing, really, was
agreeing with another post someone else had written.
And, i guess, since i was pretty much saying what someone else had
already said, it was a wasted post and just more extra mail in
everyone's mailbox, for which i am sorry. And i'm also sorry if i came
across as sounding like i was calling anyone a "square," which i
wasn't. i was just saying that i like shopping for music in stores,
IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL.
i love Moby, i love his music and i love the stand he takes for the
enviroment and how he stands up for his own political and religious
views. The reason i'm on this list is MOBY and, once again, i am sorry
about my irrelevant post which seems to have bothered you so much.

Hey Hey Hey. We need to calm down. You were agreeing with me, and I was very
happy to see it. One piece of mail won't kill anyone, especially when it is
relevant. I don't know what got you so worked up, but I didn't see anythign
posted on the list that ould do that. People never agree with me, or some do
and some don't. If everyoen agreed this would be the most boring list ever.
Confrontation is good. Just wait until the new album comes out and everyone
tries to get in their say. Then we will see how many people agree. But thanks
for agreeing with me on the shopping. In fact, I am heading up to NY this
weekend to do some hardcore shopping. Stand fast. Later.

I think shopping via internet is great because it makes
life so much easier. I'd much rather get what I wanted this
way then wasting my time wandering around and fumbling
through CDs etc - maybe I just hate shopping and want to
get what I really want straight away and then get out!? I
think the crowds in London really piss me off too much!?
Sometimes I just need some space. However, there's more of
a chance of stumbling on something interesting, that
catches your eye when you actually go out and shop.
Everything in moderation is what I say.

take ourselves too seriously, ok?

If I could go shopping in London for just one day I would be so set. So, has
anyone picked up the Honey single who hadn't gotten the promo? LAter.

So, has

I stepped into one of the many independent record stores in my new place
of residence (Bloomington/Normal IL) and asked the clerk if he had a
date on the import Honey single. He said he had just recieved a fax
that morning giving him ordering info from one of his direct
distributers. He said that Mute was releasing it here in the US and
that he had a list price of 5.99 each for both of the honey singles.
HE ordered them up for me and said they will be in next week or the week
after, I don't know if that 5.99 price was the British price not the
import price or what but he seemed pretty competent.
Just wanted to mention my possibly great deal on the new singles,

Okay it's good to go shopping in London once in a while,
but it can get to you (well me anyways), especially when I
go with my mates who are obsessed with looking at
everything in every shop we go to! I got the Honey single
yesterday (the 'non-mix' version) ie. the one with
micronesia and ? gospel. I really like it now. Micronesia
is quite good. The gospel (I think it's appropriately
called memory gospel - I can't remember, my head is like a
sieve and no pun intended!) one is lacking something and
doesn't really do much for me and sounds very much like
what Moby's done before, but not as good. So no real
original ground-breaking stuff for that one, but after a
few listens I got to like it.

***Moby - Whip It (Sub Pop) Techno 7" $6.99
Moby prod., 7' vinyl, now available in the US. Moby goes rock on this cover
version of Mission From Burma track, fairly hard hitting alternative sound;
A-side feat. interesting interpretation of classic Devo hit.
***John Lydon - Sun (Leftfield Mix) Techno 12" $9.99 CD5 $10.99
Leftfield returns the favor and mixes up Johnny's new record 3 times, with
Moby throwing down one as well. Moby's mix fuses big raucous guitars and
soundtracky techno vibes. Leftfield's B-side mixes are long techno dub
excursions that get gradually faster on the 'Dub Remix' and slower on the
'Remix #3'.

IÆm Tom. Some call me Tommy. Here I am-as prompted. On November the
eighth, IÆll legally start clubbing. I only got snuck into what was once
known as Dome Room a few times.
One day, a few years back, I was at a record store trying to think of
some CD to get that IÆve never heard(I like buying titles that IÆve never
heard/of). I was doing my usual browse, looking at every title in the store
from Z to A when all of a sudden a Moby CD found itself being stared at by
none other then myself. I suddenly remembered from somewhere around a year
ago hearing about Moby and his music, but never heard it. IÆve never been
happier with an buy like that.
HereÆs my little collection of MobyÆs music.

Today, I haven't got as x-tensive a collection as lets sayà my friend
Steve(n)T.G. (props to Steve!!!!)-hi Steve, but am almost perfectly happy

Other musicians I enjoy? Hmmm...

Warzau-&-Ridolyn, Bad Religion, Pegboy, Machines of Loving Grace, nin,

I was with my Polish buddy yesterday and he put on a cover of David Bowie's
"Let's Dance" by a German death metal band. Ironically enough, the band's
name is Atrocity. :)
Question on Honey lyrics: Does she say "I want a man like that" or "I want
to rap like that"? I'd think the latter would be anachronistic......
*************************
Honey - promo review
*************************
"When my honey come back, sometime..."
- -Moby's Original Mix is very close to the original, if I understand
correctly. It is slow in tempo, and can be described as a journey. The music
doesn't sit still for very long. Among the various incarnations this version
travels through are a twangy acoustic, a liquid funk riff, (no better
description, sorry) which breaks down to the ILTS funk guitar, next comes
the underwater sound. Pianos are heavily laced throughout the song. If I
remember correctly, this song claps in, claps out. I think this version
inspired the 'bluesy' desription. I quite like it, it's my favorite on this
platter.
- -Bammer's mix opens w/ the singing & clapping only, then breaks out some
deep jungle. I'm not hot on jungle, so I can't really compare it to much.
The vocal samples are used moderately, and a few are used just momentarily
in quick breakdowns: liquid funk riff, ILTS funk guitar, chopped vocals.
This crazy jungle music is too humid for me.
- -Aphrodite & Mickey Finn's Mix is set atop hip-hop drums. On the whole I
would describe this mix as 'cosmic pop lounge' This mix sports vocals
twisted through a "waterdrain filter" for nifty effect. Many noises echo,
including the vox & the imfamous funk guitar. There's a snare rush in there
too, somewhere. In the 2nd half there's a part of the song w/ the underwater
sound that has vocals (downpitched to sound like a man singing) layered over
it. This mix is fun.
- -RJ's Mix is pure homegrown. It gets going w/ a dark electric synth, and
then the Analogue Bubblebath-ish sample comes in which builds into a
combined ChemBros/Uberzone/Crystal Method riff. This again sports the
underwater sound w/ vocals overlayed. This mix, overall, is very Chemical
Brotheres. If you know them you know it's pointless to try describing them
w/ less than ten adjectives...
This 12" fits in the same 'dancefloor' category as the other. In
contrast however, This group of mixes isn't as good in my opinion. I like
Moby's mixes the best usually. The person I'd like to see mix a Moby song is
BT. Anyway, I just don't dig the styles as much. I like acid, house, techno,
trance, that sort of thing. While they are neat I didn't need to hear a
Crystal Method song w/ Honey samples, or a commonplace jungle drone w/ some
fast chopped Honey vocals. I don't mind complete overhaul mixes, but I like
to see more than one song element somehow utilized in the remix. I expect
lots of disagreement on this review. The songs all fit together well,
though, and I must say whoever made the 'which track where' decision did a
very good job. Overall, a decent piece of wax.
"I'm going over, yeah, sometime."
Thanks for reading,
Steve
