I smile everytime I see/hear/read him say that.  It's not my personal
favorite, but it's nice to know he's stayed in touch with his personal,

Well that is usually my reaction to most CDs, especially rap ones.
As far as Tricky goes; I like him but I had to hear his stuff
many times over before I got into it. same thing with ryu's cd,
moby's rock tunes, aphex, ect.

i remember for a while they used to play matchbox 20 "3AM" at 3am
after AMP for a while....whatever.

and anyway, stop all this with tricky. i love tricky but this isnt a
tricky list right? from what i've heard of angels w/ dirty faces it
rocks. its just not at the top of my list though.

and btw, add 808 state and portished to that list i was talking about!

Thanks for the 2 sides of the story. Maybe I will once again listen to his
first album. But I'll tell you what, I did like Tricky in The Fifth Element.
And, while we are on Tricky, has anyone else noticed that G.O.D. or Maxi Jazz?

   Tim,

     I loved AR. I liked it after I bought it, and I love it even more
now that I've got the 2CD set w/ Little Idiot. If people were turned off
by it, then that's their loss. Personally, I think it was a great move
for Moby to record it and release it. It's sort of like what Liam H.
said about the "Smack My Bitch Up" single; he said he was glad it didn't
get real popular and didn't even hardly break the singles charts. It
just showed that Liam released it because he wanted to and not because
he wanted the money or publicity (though he got a little bit of exposure
because of the video.)

    I found something new in the land of Moby: the promo 12" for Dead
Man Walking (US promo!! no single is US tho) has Moby Mix 2 on it. The end
of mix 2 is the beginning of mix 1, kinda like the barracuda mix of Stella
led into the Electro one....

Clay: your excused for the outburst.

Well Tim, I would say that the 2 Moby albums that I enjoy the most
listing straight through with no skipping or replaying songs are EOE and
AR. I think they are both incredibl (not to say all of Moby's stuff is
not incredible) but I feel the raw emotion more in those two.
 You are not alone.

in my opionion it sux.
but i'm just not impressed by the whole dj scene, whether it's
moby djing or not- i prefer my tracks to be separate not mixed
together...most of those tracks didnt impress me much anyway tho

list say they think AR is superb. It's just that I've heard
so many people slag off AR recently and I think they're
talking out of their arses, but those people may well only
like a certain brand of music and hardcore punk just does
their head in (fair enough) - I appreciate a wide variety,
as long as it's good to listen to.

I'm not really a hardcore techno head and I'm severely in
the minority in the UK, however I do like some, but am more
into ambient/trance. Now I'm going to lose all my support
and stir some more by saying I don't think Moby's Ambient
is all that good, except for one or two tracks.

the moby/sven vath thing is good if you need documentation of moby as a
dj
and his portion of the disc is really pretty nice>

i think animal rights was a great maneuver....politically,
philosophically.....but it put me off for a long while artistically....
it was totally apparent that moby was not gonna allow himself to
pigeon-holed as any sort of artist that could be predicted.

now imagine this same woman years later......that you were convinced
that you hated.....for being with another soul that you hated.......
now imagine her once again saying sorry and that she never meant to hurt
anyone..........and maybe the lessons were about the way we go around
administering our passions (often negative) throughout the world....
imagine her eyes as they are the same ones that you fell in love with
years ago......

After Moby's dabbled a bit in hip-hop, etc I think it would be great if he did some Celtic folk
stuff, Spanish/classical guitar, Gregorian or Buddhist chanting (without meaning to get

long as it sounds good - I don't care. Of course, I wouldn't say no to more hardcore

WELCOME TO THE LIST FRISO!  i'm always glad to see new ppl on.. it makes
it more interesting.

as for AR, i think it's great.  i think i've said this a zillion times,
so i'll say it again.  i think a true artist is willing to redraw his/her
own boundaries and experiment.  AR is the first i've heard of Moby's rock
stuff and i found it refreshing.  sometimes you have to put out something
totally different, it helps u discover who you are.  besides, hearing the
same type of music from the same artist really gets kinda boring- and
Moby isn't boring because his style is constantly changing.  so, that's
my little rant about it.

and clay, that was an interesting outburst... something must've really
ticked u off!   :)  glad to see that you are back to your plain old self.
 and.. it looks like you've fixed the date on your computer!  i'm still
hurting from that last joke about it.....

anyways, that's all i can think of.  sorry i haven't been posting much,
work kinda takes up all my time.  i'm trying to pull in the hours before
school starts for me for various expenses.  fun fun fun!

i don't have much of a moby collection yet...just everything is wrong,
animal rights, i like to score, rare, and early underground...ambient will

i'm just a recent convert to moby, having bought my first moby cd about a
year ago.  my first introduction to moby was reading those essays from
someone else's copy of the everything is wrong cd...that really caught my
interest in this guy, cuz i think much the same way...so i bought Animal
Rights...which is my favorite cd, ever.

um, other stuff i listen to...i still have a lot of hardcore and metal
stuff...stuff like visions of disorder, sick of it all, dead kennedys, then
all the good ole seattle stuff...etc...i'm just starting to get into
techno...

i'm done now, i think.

Interesting question.  I am much interested in philosophizing about the
armies, and war, and things like that.

From EIW remixes liner:

Both can be applied either way.  War as injustice and cruelty, or war to
fight injustice and cruelty.  IMHO, 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Yeah, you can pretty much protest anything.

Laos and Cambodia are examples of a great wrong being used to try to make
another wrong right.  And it turned out that people didn't really know why
the wrong they were trying to right was wrong after all.

Who knows what Moby thinks, but I doubt he was ever in the army.  I
couldn't think he'd want to put himself in a position to kill a human
being.  He's a pretty skinny guy anyway--probably wouldn't last too long eh?

among others ( what a combo ! ) -- a fine, fine city indeed.  anyway, i had a
few extra bucks in my pocket, and picked up two additional copies (all they
had) of the domestic cd single for eno's "fractal zoom" ... i did this solely
so two lucky people on our little list here could enjoy this nice remix mini-
album as much as i do.  so, if you're interested, go to daniel's page and
check the discography for the whole song-and-dance.  i'm aware that it's
probably readily available in most areas, but for those who can't find it, i
just want to do a little trade-style thing -- let me know if there's something
you're willing to exchange for this, and i'll get right back to you.  you can
post to me privately, or to the list, either way ... and they're still shrink-
wrapped and everything, nice and new.  so until we meet again ...
