i love the Lords of Acid more than anyone i know, and i was into ATR back in
the days of "speed" ... however, i must point out that all of the afore
mentioned women are all part of some collective. i am NOT, by any means,
suggesting that they are any less talented because of this, but i am still
hard-pressed to come up with any solo female performers in the techno scene
... perhaps the scene has just always been primarily male-dominated, and women
haven't really come into their own yet ... something else: look at how both
Jade 4U and Hanin (and don't forget Gina from Ec8oR) are viewed -- they all
fit the "tough bitch" image, you know? and there are the people who go to the
shows to just have a look at that "piece of ass" up on stage ... so as far as
the aggressive thing, it really does seem to me that they're just trying to
keep up in the male-dominated scene -- i mean, like i said, there are a lot of
those people who still just see them as sex objects, not musicians ... but
just as Moby or BT or Sasha or whoever can get up on stage and be personal and
be intimate and just be themselves, i don't think the scene has allowed a
place like that for women yet ... just my thoughts ... <adam>

actually, jade 4 u of lords of acid, digital orgasm, mno, etc....
she has released several solo projects.
also, hanin of atari teenage riot has released a solo album on
dhr a while back, and has done some solo stuff for compilations.
i agree though, that it's mostly a male dominated industry/scene.

What about Chicago??? I know there are lots of list members from here, and
it's the middle of the country. I think it would be good for US members,
anyway. Of course, it's very convenient for me. Then again, I can't really
travel right now.

That would be alright, but first, everyone would have to agree on one
place (so much the better if Moby is playing in the area at the time!),
everyone who could show up should reply to say so, hopefully at least a
week before the actual event. Of course they'd have to be scheduled
months in advance in case anyone needs to take time off. Also, for the
benefit of those who join after one is held, they should be held more
than once. Perhaps semi-annually or annually? I'm leaving for job
corps for about the next year or so, so I'm not volunteering. I'm just
saying that if someone actually wants to make this happen, these steps
will most likely be involved. Just a thought . . .

YOU GOT IT RIGHT ADAM..........and you know what?????.....the techno
scene also doesn't allow for A LOT of other things.......
but that's why it's the techno scene>>>>>>>>cause like most scenes it
comes with its own unwritten set of rules codes taboos what's cool and
so on........which only leads to women having to make their own scene
which becomes about women......... and not everybody......and then it's
rules like no men...no wankers...no jocks.....no nerds......

Actually, I should get back to WOK. I love Chinese food.
Random bouts of rough physical labor office building wanderings (fedex
deliveries) interspersed with jalapeno krunchers, Moby rants, and little
debbie peanut butter bars. Let's not forget the occasional web browse and
watermelon jolly rancher. I smoke newports and think about music.
Who's gonna go to the university on May 16! methinks I-be there. I'll call
today for info and post it up. (as my schedule permits, as I am busy despite
all appearances, clay. But I fly thru my deskwork due to a sort of mobility
motivation. Moby & Busta, I wish they'd take the stage together, twood be

But you know, what it bothers me is a lot of people hear about Moby, and say
"Yeah, the guy who remixed the JB theme...". Or even worse, "That's not true.
I saw the film and didnt hear that song!" :)

I went to the AMG Moby site this morning (shut up clay stop giving
me a hard time) and they have a rather interesting database. They show not
only what he's released or remixed, but also shows his producer/engineer
credits too. There's a new comp in print now with him in the the credit
called Welcome To The Future. He's credited for production & remix. He
doesn't have one of his own tracks on it, tho. Does anyone know which track
he worked on? There's some Shamen, LFO, Eskimos & Egypt, etc.
In the rate this artist section I chose 'Some of Both' for every
category.

Yup.
What Steve Giles sez is prolly a good idea.
How about a Chicago Mobility party?
Not to say that it'll be exclusive for Chi-M, but we could all help in
organizing a lil get-together of sorts.
What do you guys think?

despite previous pessimistic comments (although i still hold to them in the
name of realism) i'd be willing to do what i can to do this. i think it'd
be a great experience. someone suggested a sweepstakes to raise $$$ - how
do you think this would work? would the 5/16 concert be too soon to hold
this? do we think that it'd be possible that moby would want to cameo at
this shin-dig? i was thinking that if i ever became famous and a whole
community of people sent messages to each other every day about me i might
want to meet them or at least be curious about what they were saying.

I have been reading the listserv for about 2 weeks now and want to thank
everyone for having good things to say, that is meaningful things. There is
some worthless stuff here, but the good out weights the bad. Anyway, I
started a Moby page about 3 weeks ago without knowing the calabre of the
other Moby pages out there. Anyway I decided to put up what I have done
already. I still feel that my page can serve a purpose. I have been
listening to moby for almost 2 years now. I want my page to be a resource
to new moby fans, a help place that I never had when I discovered moby in a
used music section of a crappy record store. Give me your suggestions and
comments on what I have so far:

Subject: Re: (mobility) Mobility party
OK, I sometimes have an over-active imagination- but here's what
I've been thinking about this party:
<idea>
Forgetting about our obvious limitations as normal everyday humans-
I think this could really work...
First of all- I'm talking about the US version of the party here
Since Moby is between labels, this could work- we first of all need
info on who is interested and where they are from, including
everyone on the list from the US and CANADA.
I could put up a page where you all sign up because we would need
some numbers to estimate our costs/abilities
We get ahold of MOBY and tell him what we are planning, and see if
he would be interested in being there, and if we could have his
cooperation in a fundraiser that we ourselves would have to work
hard at.
My idea for a fundraiser is the most exiting part actually,
I think it's workable if Moby liked the idea.
We could get permission to put out a CD with something unreleased
that Moby would provide for us, anything he may have that he
doesn't have other plans for...there are always a few songs like
that.
We could have an agreement that it's a limited edition, the number
of CDs being how ever many we figure out that we have to sell to
get us all to Hawaii or where ever to have our big shindig.
We would all have to contribute an initial investment to print
the CDs (we can call it MOBILITY RECORDS or something like that)
After printing, we would need about 500-1000 promotional CDs
for radio stations/ DJs and of course some for ourselves.
Each of us would contribute by doing radio promotion for our
respective local areas or any surrounding areas.
This would consist mostly of a lot of phone calls to music
directors and DJs, bugging them to play the new Moby CD.
Once it starts getting airplay and chartings, we can easily
get a distribution deal. Being a limited edition we could unload
all of the CDs pretty much at once at VIOLA! we have our funding
for our event. With a name like Moby, we should get distribution
regardless anyway, so if some of you suck at promotion- no
big deal, it can be a fun, learning experience for all.
Who better to promote Moby's music than US - his biggest fans?
We would need to elect someone we trust to collect initial
investments from everyone, and I'm sure we could all contribute
something to the CD inlay.
I have more ideas on the details, but I need to hear what you
all think of this idea...
</idea>
