ladies and germs,
a bud of mine, matos, who used to be on the list, wanted me to post
this info to you about the source of the sample from "bring back my happiness":
So I buy these 2 CDs the other day, titled Super Rare Disco Vol. 1 & 2. Put
on Vol. 1, and third song in ("Touch & Go," by the excellently named
Ecstasy, Passion and Pain featuring Barbara Roy) I hear this very familiar
shout. I double-take, look up and rewind the CD. Nope, I was right. A very
familiar female voice screaming:
"IT'S HARD TO LET YOU GOOO!!!!"
My friend, I have found the source of Moby's "Bring Back My Happiness"
sample. And it just came out a few months ago. Please post this on the Moby
board.

Subject: (mobility) Revenge of the Mobility Archives!
This message is for anyone that has individual Mobility archives
bookmarked or linked from their web pages. Damian, that means
you!!! ;) And I don't know who else...
As many of you know, I collect all of the messages from this
mailing list, HTMLify them, and post them to the web for easy
reference. There is a file for each day that people post to
Mobility. Well, this list has been up for over 15 months, and
my archive directory was getting so huge and unweildy that it
was becoming quite cumbersome for me to upload files. So I
finally took action today, separating the archives into sub-
directories by year.
This means that direct links to individual Mobility archives
no longer work, and will need to be updated. It is fairly
simple, though. All you need to do is insert the year. For
example, if you have a link to the Mobility list archives of
November 27, 1997, you need to change the old, broken URL
http://www.moby.org/archives/m971127.html
to the new, ELiTE one:
http://www.moby.org/archives/1997/m971127.html
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but I
believe it will work out better in the long run. This is
just one of those growing pains that websites have to go
through.

You know, I've always thought one of the more mellow tracks on _Early

more upbeat tracks, minus the wacked-out samples...

I saw it a few times on M2. They play good stuff in between the
useless '80's crap. I like most '80's music, but not a lot of the stuff
they play. Anyway, they played a Public Image Ltd. song followed by that
song with Leftfield & Johnny Lydon.
Speaking of the rotten one, today is his birthday; he's 42. I've
only heard that one song by them, though.D.

"Open Up" by Leftfield Lydon was relaesed in nov 93. Moby did remix a
Lydon solo track "Grave Ride" but it was only on a 12" vinyl here in the
UK..
Does anybody know where I can get hold of Moby's early singles..
And in an interview with Select magazine in August 95 (or thereabouts)
from his log cabin, Moby made it quite clear he has had girlfriends.
But what is Mr Richard Hall doing now and do we have any indications as
to what direction it may take?

Did anyone know about Moby's remix of Opus III's "I Talk To The Wind"?
I stumbled across it today while I was making a Moby's remixes tape.
I had completely forgotten about that mix he did. It's not listed in
Daniel's Discography but it's a great remix.
If anyone is searching for more Moby music, may I suggest his remix

"Grave Ride" w/the Moby remix is also on John Lydon's album (both US &
UK and I don't recommend buying it). I have a wave sample on a page of
mine - I should replace it with a Real Audio sample but I'm too lazy.

I always recommend Mute at http://www.mutelibtech.com/mute/bank/bank.htm
- - they're a bit casual at things but they're dependable and the prices
are good. However, they won't have the early stuff from Instinct
records.

Hey, man, don't knock John Lydon's "Psycho's Path" CD. It's a great album!
The fact that it features a remix by Moby is an added bonus (and it was
actually the reason I bought the CD in the first place), but the entire album
is awesome!
You just haven't lived until you've experienced the song "Sun" at high volume
on headphones.

I know it's going to happen everytime some one posts a review or interview
from the web or a magazine. A music journalist is going to get bashed. He
doesn't get it. He's clueless. He has no idea what he's talking about. He's
got all the facts wrong.
As some one who makes a good part of his living off writing about musicians
and their work, I've learned to develop a pretty thick skin and I've gotten
used to people disagreeing with me. But most music journalists I know are
much more savy than readers give them credit for. Critics have to stay on
top of new artists, new genres, and know how it all fits into pop music
continuity (forgive me if I kind of cringe in using the word "history" to
describe pop music). For all the ambiguity you accuse us of, It might help
you to know that most editors are more interested in their writers
describing what a record *sounds* like in a review rather than simply saying
how good they thought it was. Our job is to help our readers make an
informed decision about new music rather than recommendations.
Every fan wants a reviewer to say their favorite artist's newest is the best
thing since Sgt. Peppers or Pet Sounds. But the reviewer is not writing for
the fan. He's writing for the person who's never heard of that musician, or
is looking for something new.
I have to say, I agree with the writer when he says "Go" is seminal, and I
don't think he stole it from the Elektra press release. I know for me It was
the first thing from Moby I heard, and it is one of his most enduring works.
Early success + timeless appeal = seminal in my book.
Now, I just re-read this message, and it is much angrier sounding than I
meant it to be. I don't want to upset anyone. I just want to make a point.
Maybe you expect too much from critics and music journalists.
