in the "top o' the charts" section of the latest
Carvin music catalog (the make/sell guitar products),
there is a nice little picture of moby with a caption
that reads:
Prolific performer, producer, and arranger
MOBY occupies a unique niche as techno-wiz.
His current release on Elektra Records "I Like
to Score" is rocketing up the charts at press
time. It's an eclectic collection of film and
soundtrack scores that showcases the musical
cameleon's multi-talents. His live shows are
an experience that defies description!
then it goes on to talk of Alistair McMordie, moby's
bassist:
Alistair McMordie holds down the bottom end
on the techno show with his Carvin BB75 Bass,
RSP Redline preamp, DCM1500 power amp and
RL410T and RL118 speaker cabinets. MOBY
himself also uses the Carvin TL60 during the
multi-media blitzkreg! Indeed, we will be hearing
more from this critically-acclaimed performing
team in the near future...
nothing really special or nothing...just figured i'd mention
it. the picture would be really nice if it was bigger.
it shows moby playing his guitar with the white
camo moby shirt on that he was selling on his last tour.
anyways,
love,

Good news kids...Showtime is showing Joe's Apt...and it's their free
weekend..so if you don't happen to have Showtime..still check in...I have 3
Showtime channels(East Feed, West Feed, and a 2nd East feed)..Anyways..the
west feed is showing the movie at 2 PM today, then again at 12:30
AM...Meaning the East Feed is showing it at 11:30 PM...
Moby's not that hard to miss, "Ladies and Gentlemen...It's loud...it's
bad..it's SHIT!" Watch for him during the club scene..right after the first
band(Boss Hog I believe)..2 other things..At 2 spots in the movie...little
snippits of When It's Cold...is played...And in the credits..Moby's listed
as Richard "Moby" Hall.
Movie's quirky...don't expect too much :) At least watch/record it to see
Moby :)

Thanks for the alert, Ryan! Unfortunately, Showtime is still

I was surfing through AOL and I found this little piece of information that
has to do with some Online Awards thing that is being done on AOL along with
Spin Online.
This is one of the categories:
16. Best Knob Twiddlers Riding the Electronica Hype:
A. Aphex Twin
B. Chemical Brothers
C. Daft Punk
D. Moby
E. Fatboy Slim
Notice How Aphex Twin and Moby made this list. I think it's pathetic!

It sounds like they were saying that Moby is just a bit overexposed
and won't last, but he's actually the best in that category. I have a few
Aphex Twin albums, but he's a little bit too strange for me. Daft Punk...
The Chemical Brothers are good, and I've only heard "Going Out Of My Head",
so I can't say much about Fatboy Slim. If You ask me, Moby and Aphex Twin
are UNDERexposed, and whoever made this list/category better get their head
out of the sand.
And the winner is...DAFT PUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Write in runner-up would
be Prodigy, but they're better than D.P. (At least Liam is.)

Personally, I don't think any of these should be on the list; Aphex Twin,
Chemical Brothers and Moby have been around long before the birth of the
"Electronica" scene that suddenly seems to have sprung up in America. Daft
Punk were getting recognition, at least here in the UK, just before the
whole thing became big over in the US. And as for Fatboy Slim -- well, the
man's a genius. He's been involved with records as The Housemartins
(remember them? A kind of forerunner of The Beautiful South. They did Happy
Hour, amongst other songs), Freakpower (Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out), Beats
International (Dub Be Good To Me), Pizzaman (Sex On The Streets, Trippin' On
Sunshine), Mighty Dub Katz (Magic Carpet Ride), and of course, Fatboy
Slim -- one of *the* most in-demand remixers at the moment, it seems. His
remixing skills have graced people as diverse as Stretch & Vern, Cornershop,
and Jean-Jacques Perry. He's also produced many classic tunes, including
Santa Cruz, Going Out Of My Head, and of course, the genre-defining
Everybody Needs A 303. In short, I think AOL need to get their collective
head seen to, as it's obviously too far up their own arse for them to
recognise talent when they see it.
</rant>
Do I get shot now for saying I like Daft Punk?

Hmmm..maybe it was for just dish owners(I subscribe to one of the
minidishes..that's why I have 3 Showtime feeds available)..Anyways...I spose
if it's on special rental(like $.99)..check it out..OR..if you can wait..I'm
putting together a video of all the stuff I want to keep that I've recorded
over the years..So far I'm keeping all the Moby stuff I've recorded(Go,
James Bond, Joe's Apt., I'm trying to track down the 120
Min.)..MBM...PWEI(not much here..just the Ich Bin video and Clint speaking
to Matt Pinhead)...Electronic...Orbital..I've recorded many Amp shows..So
there still much to go through :) If ppl want..I'll mass produce this
thing..All it should cost is the blank tape..and s&h..No need to get to me
right away about this..I still have a few more tapes to go through.

I've come to expect this from anyone major in the "industry"..Most ppl just
don't have a clue..Yeah..Moby's riding the way..that's why he released AR
during the "wave".
Anyways..check out SonicNet..they have their own "awards" too for ppl to
vote on..They have some good awards(overrated band, trend, etc)..But I don't
think they totally thought it through..The choices for electronic artist of
the year(at least they didn't use electronica..<horf>) are:
Aphex Twin, Chem Bros, Daft Punk, Moby, and Prodigy(I think MBM should be in
there..but that's just me :) )
But then for Electronic Album of the year the choices are:
Bowie "Earthling"
CB "Dig Your Own Hole"
DP "Da Funk"
Prodigy "Fat Of The Land"
Roni Size "New Forms"
Seems to me that an artist up for the best of the year award should have an
album in the best of the year award too...Who knows..maybe I'm being too
practical..Still go and vote..Unfortunately there's not an "other"
option(they didn't have The Prodigy as a choice for overrated artist..at
least I got to vote for the Spice Girls :) )
Ryan
np: Orbital "Orbital 2"

Wrong, wrong, and wrong :)
I won't reply to the first two because that's purely opinion, but Fatboy
Slim (it's just one bloke, Norman Cook) has been around for a while -- he's
been in the music industry (as an artist) since the mid-to-late-eighties.
The first Fatboy Slim track (Santa Cruz) was released in 1995 -- hardly a
bandwagon-jumper!
