Well..it's not really a sitcom..but I'd LOVE to see Moby on SNL(as a
music guest of course) for two reasons: #1 See Moby somewhat live...#2
Be MUCH MUCH better then seeing those damn Spice Girls(which if you
haven't heard..are rumored to be on SNL soon <horf>)
But as a sitcom choice...hmmmmm...ER maybe (mosh pit goes awry?...or
fans of punk(not Moby) get pissed when he turns techno in the middle of
the show and riot?)...seeing how ER is filmed in Chicago(is it not?)
the local fans could catch sight of him?!?!
Or
Seinfeld(Jerry has to open for Moby?!!?)
Mr. Bean(British show...not sure if it's still on since I've only seen
in on tapes..but show would be him moshing to Moby..that'd be a pretty
bizzare sight)

Subject: (mobility) Moby Interview
I decided to give the Wasted box set(Best of Volume: Part 1, import)
another listen...I had forgotten that Moby is on it(Go, subliminal
mix)..and a guide came w/ the cd...and in that guide is a Moby
Interview(warning...the ?'s came from a random ? generator)...the song
first appeared in Volume 3(May 92)...so I think that's when the
interview was done?!?! Anways :
What is the most embarrassing thing that you have ever done?
Not enough space here to describe adequately.
What is the greatest record made in the last six years?
Julee Cruise's "Floating Into The Night"
What's your worst personal habit?
Being inhibited.
What's your favorite food?
Vegan chocolate cake.
Do you believe in putting subliminals in your music?
No, I'm not clever enough.
Are you scared of death?
No, no, no, no.
Do you have any political affiliations/strong views you wish to air?
Question rendered illegible from spilled soya milk.
Do you think taking drugs improves creativity(would you have heart
surgery from a doctor on PCP)?
They can impair and improve creativity, and the last thing I would want
is a creatively dusted heart surgeon.
Which of the ten commandments would you never break?
I think I've broken all of them, sadly.
Are you ready to rock?
Certainly.
Who or what is your first love?
Music and God.
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
An ageing face.
Have you any shame?
Yes, unfortunately.
Do you ever disgust yourself?
Most of the time (see answer three).
Are jokers more interesting than winners?
Yes, usually.
Did Jesus really die on the cross?
More likely he died nailed to a tree.
Who were the most influential bands ever?
David Bowie, Kraftwekr, Donna Summer, Stooges, etc.
Do you belive in the judgement day?
I do not know.
Who was the greatest American president and why?
Thomas Jefferson, because he was smart and balanced.
What was the last book you read?
"Rama Revealed" by Arthur C. Clarke.
Last but not least...quotes that came w/ the interview:
"Rave music is both political and hedonistic. I'm attracted because I
like the music and I'm into the counter-culture side of it."
"If I can go everywhere by public transport, it's better for my frame
of mind. The motorcar has been responsible for most of this century's
social ills."
"LA is as violent as New York but, in New York, the violence and
poverty is all around you - you can't escape them. Here it's brushed
away. LA is sick, and that sickness is endemic to American culture."
Hope you all enjoyed :)

It gets worse. Rumor has it (that is, MTV has it) that the Spice Girls
are going to be in a movie. Not just in it, starring in it. Supposedly
it will be done very late this year, will include a soundtrack chock full
of their little bubble-gum-meets-KY-jelly songs, and will no doubt contain
them lip syncing badly while wearing tight outfits. I smell a hit,
folks...buy your tickets now, before they run out!

I missed everything that anyone might have said about Moby being on
120 minutes (MTV) a few weeks back, but here's what I have to say.
It made me somewhat happy in a way when Moby said he drinks
ocassionally. I personally abstained from drinking beer (i.e. did
not have a sip of beer until November of 1996), and I just turned 25.
The only alcohol I ever drank was maybe half a glass of wine at a
wedding reception once a year or so. In other words, I didn't drink.
But I kinda started casual social drinking at the above date, and I
can even remember thinking that I was not "like Moby" anymore,
because I started drinking. But anyway, I feel better now.

Subject: (mobility) Re: reviews
I hate reviews of ANY kind and the only reason I read them
ocassionally is to get kicks and/or laughs out of them. Who are THEY
to judge and what good would it do me to listen to what THEY have to
say about it in regards to MY personal interpretations? Now,
granted, I realize that the benefit may be that you can try to get a
minimal grasp to what the record or whatever sounds LIKE, but that's
as far as their helpfulness goes. And all these damn magazines
nowadays are hung up on reviewers who use stupid cliches and
supposedly innovative but albeit artificial words (but then again am
I far behind in this review of reviews?? Hypocrisy is very difficult
to avoid sometimes...) I mean, I like using interesting and
innovative/unusual words (at least in my opinion) as well, but you
don't see me doing reviews for magazines now, do you. I could never
write for a magazine, because I would only want to review something
if I could do it completely subjectively, and that would be hard for
me to do, because if I came across something which was I even
remotely disliked, who am I to judge it? Those with biased opinions
should not be allowed to do reviews.... But I guess we'll never know
if they are biased or not... What I would rather do and do do is go
to record stores which let you listen to cd's before you buy them
(Borders, Tower, etc.) and make my decision there. But I'm not you.

I got the new Revolver 12" today. Full details are in the discography,
but here is a track listing:
moby's mix
psychotic VE-GUN mix edit-vocal dub
moby's mix 1-edit
the rollo & sister bliss vocal mix
The Moby mix is pretty good, but it feels like a re-run... It's
kind of like Bring Back My Happiness (Voodoo Child Mix) with Revolver
chords instead of BBMH. "moby's mix 1-edit" is an edited version of
"moby's mix". Track 2, remixed by Philip Steir, is reminiscent of
Come On Baby (Crystal Method Mix), because it's basically a bunch
of vocal samples pasted on a somewhat mediocre musical background.
I got my 12" from CDnow for $6.79 plus shipping. I think a CD is also
available, but it's hard to tell at this point. I ordered something
from CD Connection that appears to be a new Revolver CD, but it may
take a week or two to arrive.

collecting Mobys' recordings for a couple of years after I saw him at
Greenbelt (A british Christian festival). Moby preformed an impressive
set, Hymn caused the whole field to go silent with awe. My favourite
tracks are "Feeling so real." and "Go"
Unfourtunatly it is hard to get hold of alot of the Moby
(+ psyudonyms) material as it is on an american label. I have got:

Rare: The collected B-Sides
I also have hold of a (rare ?) mix he did for a british magazine
called mix-mag. This is a 30-minute mix of his and other artists work.
It is excellent!

I am writing because of the concerns expressed about the lists
operations and the recent inconsistency between message delivery times.
I don't have a real explanation but I do know my current ISP that the
mailing list resides on has been doing major upgrades over the past week
or two. They have upgraded the mailing list program along with the mail
servers, modems, connections lines, and have even moved to a different
location. This might explain some of the problems with the delayed
messages and such. I know that they are still working on how messages
are being delivered which is very important to the list.
Hopefully this is a temporary problem that will be fixed within the next
week. If it continues, please point it out to me personally because I
might miss it. Thanks.

I heard it last night, and it's pretty much the same throughout the
song. I was surprised that it was a new techno song after ARk, but I
liked the song as well as the whole album, a definate pick-up if you get
the chance.

Also known as Voodoo Child, Moby is a musician notorious for producing
wildly diverse styles of music, from his early dance
music to his recent guitar rock. Because of this stylistic independence
and genre-bending risktaking he is highly respected
though controversial. Moby became famous in the early 1990s with a
number of worldwide techno hits, and for creating dazzling
remixes for other artists such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica and
Soundgarden. Lately, his focus has shifted to heavy
guitar music. A punk rockin', crowd moving, quasi-Christian vegan
animal rights activist, Moby simply defies classification. Moby's
long awaited second Elektra album Animal Rights, released to critical
acclaim on February 11, has already had a significant
impact in Europe.
Above taken from "The Saint" soundtrack website on Virgin
Records..heard the song as well...pretty intrigued by it...Now that
I've had a taste..I want more ;>...Only thing that I REALLY disagree
with on the above paragraph is them claiming AR was released to
critical acclaim...Sorry..but have I been living on another world???
Every review I've seen, the reviewer slams Moby for changing
genres..giving a lackluster performance..and/or he should have stuck w/
"techno". Doesn't seem like "critical acclaim" to me <shrug>.

I haven't heard the entire song, just the sample on The Saint web page.
It does sound dated and I'm surprised Moby has decided to release it,
especially under his own name. We all know that "Oil 1" was recorded in
the second half of 96 because that's when the information showed up in
Daniel Discography
(http://www.hyperreal.com/music/artists/moby/info/mobydisc.txt).
OIL 1 / OIL 2 [Julie Sorrenti, unreleased]
UK CD, Trophy, CDTrophy6
NOTE: Exact track listing is uncertain.
1 _:__ Oil 1
2 _:__ Oil 2
Daniel, can you tell us what month it was that you found out about this
song??? I'm curious as to how dated it really is. It's also strange
that Moby didn't release one of his own mixes from the "Revolver" single
that was techno-ish that would have fit in with the soundtrack while
still promoting his new material. Hmmm...
Thoughts anyone?

I will, especially since they based their summary of Moby on what I
wrote for my Moby page (http://www.hyperreal.com/music/artists/moby/).

I found out about Trophy6 (Oil 1/Oil 2) and Trophy7 (Song Life/Tema
Electronica) sometime between mid-July and early August of last year.
It must have been planned before then, so Moby couldn't have made it
later than the Spring of 1996. The singles will probably come out
this summer. Talk about a one-year-plus waiting period for Moby
songs to be released! And a lot of good ones are never released.
The reason for the delay? Mute needs to fit Moby's stuff in with
all their other releases, so his stuff has to wait its turn in line.
I believe that if Moby were still on Instinct or another smaller
label, there would be less turnaround time.

Wow, no wonder why the song sounds a bit dated. I'm starting to think
that Moby is going to skip releasing Oil 1 & 2 as a single. If he goes
through with releasing it that'll mean he's gonna scrap the alias of
Julie Sorrenti, right? This would also raise the question of how the
single will released, under Trophy6 as planned or under Mute? Should be
interesting.

Good point, I never thought about that. I still _love_ Mute though.

The same things occurred to me, and at this point there are no answers.
We'll just have to see how this plays out. I'm quite sure that if
"Oil 1 / Oil 2" comes out as a single (as originally intended), it
will be on Trophy Records, not Mute. To be on Mute would be to make
it a major release that they would have to work hard to promote,
whereas they can spit out Trophy releases without saying a word or
worrying about them not being profitable.

Me too! Mute has given Moby some freedoms and distribution advantages
that I guess he didn't have with Instinct. Mute released "Hymn"! I'm
afraid that Elektra doesn't deserve the same praise, however.

Moby had got good reviews from critics in Finland. Like on finnish magazine
called "soundi": totalic experience (he got 4of5) . and they really liked
when Moby changed his style to rock. Also he had got good review on
"suosikki" and it he got 4 of 5. and they said: this really works. thanx Moby.
i haven't seen any other reviews on Finnish mags..

we all want? i love it! nice and up tempo and happy sounding. true, it
doesn't evolve much, but why should it?
