are also "Christians".

ROCK IS DEAD
LONG LIVE...?
With grunge on life support and sales flatlining, the music biz is looking
to spark a rebirth with electronica. But can you dance to it?
By Chris Willman
[snip]
Beck himself hardly counts as a techno-cian. But one of the godfathers of
the genre, Moby, pointedly prefers Beck's revolutionary brand of
electronically enhanced hip-hop-rock over the massive wave of dance music
he helped inspire.
"All the journalists who are getting excited about this 'electronica'
revolution, I feel they missed the boat," sniffs Moby, who's done his
small part to buck the tide by going back to guitars on his latest album,
Animal Rights. "The stuff that's going on now is a real pale imitation of
what was happening five years ago. It would be like people declaring a
punk-rock revolution in 1985." The future, Moby claims, is in hybrids:
"There are great electronic records and great rock records. The thing that
interests me is people combining the two--Beck being a good example,
someone who basically made an electronic record but sang on top of it."

well, i saw him in 95 i think, way before animal rights. it was just him
and two drummers on stage. there was one keyboard in the center along
with a drum pad and two congas. there was also a guitar behind
everything. the drummers were on both sides.
he played mostly EIW stuff along with a few older toons. he finnished
with 1000 while standing on top of the keybaord and pumping his fists
into the air and posing like christ on the cross. there were lots of
flashing strobes and stuff during that part too!
it was cool watching him jump around and get all sweaty. it got REALLY
hot pretty quick with everyone dancing and frolicing (sp?) around. he
opened with an extreamly extended version of hymn. when the song couldn't
possibly build up any more, it stopped and he said, "my name is moby" and
instantly ripped into ah ah. i just about died then and there.
it was probably the most energy packed show i've ever been to, and i like
to think i've been to quite a few.
and on that note, dose anyone else have their U2 tickets yet? i got mine
last week for a show in october at the metrodome, 68th row on the floor.
sorry if i'm rambling, i'm really tired...

hi there, im new to the list (i've only been on a week or two).
My name is justin, i live near chicago and am 16. im a saggitarius, i like
reading and sometimes writing. I enjoy watching movies (good, bad, mediocre,
ive only felt taht one movies was a waste of my time, but in retrospect it
wasnt too bad).
I love moby quite dearly, ive been listening to him for a few years now, ever
since my sister brought home a copy of the MOVE ep. I got everything is wrong
pretty early after its release, and i dig alot of his older stuff. my
favorite moby cd would be the Evil Ninja Moby mix of EIW, prefferably the
first disc. ummm...i like aphex twin, but tahts not waht this list is about,
is it? i dont post very often to anything unless tehre is an important point
to the opst (ie, i have something valid to say) oh yeah, i dig almost every
form of music, with certain exceptions along their lines, and i dont count
country into that mix. Why? because country just sucks thats why. umm i think
that's all ive got to say for now, lest i come up with something original,
maybe ill post it.

came up with the idea for "thousand," lets be honest, its anifty song but
there is no real point to it other thatn is insane speed.
Who would play Moby in a movie about his life?
in theory, no one would make amovie about him until he died, in which case
any actor taht i name would be too old to play him, as such defeating the
purpose.
but if one were to make amovie about him, i would say taht he is the only one
who could do it properly

At the risk of being laughed at,I'd say that Tom Hanks would look like
Moby(a bit) if he had a shaved head.I'd also give Val Kilmer serious
thought.(not just cos he did such a brilliant job with Jim Morrison, but cos
I think he's a very good actor.)

I know this is an old post..but seeing how I had problems w/ my email

Look at it this way Xaq..Moby will always be a hypocrite...to go on
tour he has to use fossil fuels(more than likely)...a computer(used to
chat on SonicNet) isn't environmentally friendly...unless he uses that
Greenpeace studio(that Orbital used for one of their songs) to
make/produce his music...his music won't be ef(environ. friendly)...etc
etc etc...See my point??? Seems to me he's striving to better
himself..but from time to time he'll be a hypocrite in doing it...And
as I've said b4..sometimes you have to sell yourself to the devil(MTV
in this case) to get what you want(exposure)

I have a GORGEOUS leather jacket that is over 20 years old. ive never

time, and is quite useful in wet weather as well. i was at a friends
place one day and she had a male friend over <whom i later became

asked me, "how many cows died to give you that jacket?" to which I
replied, "Seven. You want their names?" Selah. :)

version it is... it's slightly different from the album version...
they also have "new dawn fades" by moby... it seems to be a good
soundtrack for the most part... moby, william orbit (lots of songs),
ultraviolence, to name a few...

did anyone know that a couple of moby songs are on the movie "heat"
soundtrack? "new dawn fades" and "god moving across the face of the
wates" were on it, and "god..." was played at the end of the movie
while somebody was dying (i know who, but don't wanna spoil it for
those who don't...) and it varied slightly from the album version but
didn't say what version it was at the end of the movie... the
soundtrack seems pretty good... moby, lotsa william orbit,
ultraviolence, etc...

if you read on the back of the CD case it has a list of CD-ROM drives
that are incompatible... this is because the disc does not conform to
Red Book standards.. ie: its a mutant disc and basiccly they are lucky
it works on so many drives....

Yeah, I got this CD quite some time ago and have enjoyed it emensely.
Moby's contribution was great, IMHO! :) I wish I had "Hands On Yello -
The Updates". I didn't realize that this came out until a year or so
after the fact. However, this Update doesn't have any Moby.

Just for clarification here's the info. The first remix album for the
group Yello is called "Hands On Yello", I recommend picking this up.
Moby left a beautiful contribution. When you get the booklet that comes
with the album, read the little blurb that Moby says.... I'll quote if
I get the chance later. The second album called "Hands On Yello - The
Updates" does have Moby but his track isn't any different from the
previous release. Hope that helps, and enjoy!

I have to warn people that the Starplex is the worst place you could see
your favorite artist.. unless you feel like watching Moby on huge TVS...
because the seats are okay but if you dont get a seat you sit in the
field in the back and watch the monitors... its really a horrible
arena... and the sound sucks too.. oh well...

Well everyone. I have a nice little tale to tell from the afterhours
party I was at last night. The party was starting to wind down, in terms
of dancing. I was having a chat with the DJ, and I asked him if he had
any Moby, funny enough he did, and he played one of the many mixes of
go. And wouldn't you know it, the place started to get jump'n again. By
the end of the song the dance floor was packed again. I just smiled and
thought to myself......if these people only knew...mjs

i also have a happy story about saturday night!
the radio station i dj at, KUMD, and more specifically the RPM show, put
on it's first "rave" saturday night. i say "rave" 'cause it was really
small and only went till 11pm. but "dance" sounds too jr. high and
"party" sounds like it should involve beer or something.
so anyway, this rave featured the talents of five RPM djs, me being one
of them. the first two guys played mostly house and jungle. kevin craig
totally blew my mind with his scratching and cutting. he was better than
anything i've heard on any mixtape or cd. than it was me. i mixed into
the lungle with "feeling so real" westbam mix, pitched up a bit. it was
awesome! i continued with the happy hardcore stuff for a bit, then
totally changed the tempo with "creator" by messiah. i was really nervous
at first 'cause it was my first time spining in front of real people and
ALSO my first time using a really good mixer. i use two 1200 at the
station so i've used to them, but they were set up in "battle formation"
so it was a bit tough getting used to that at first. after about 15
minutes though, i calmed down. i also played "feeling so real" old skool.
the next guy went strait to gabber and some really hard edged stuff. he
eventually settled down to tracks like "atom bomb" by fluke.
then demonica del rio ripped into the industrial! her set was by far my
favorite. i felt like a bowl of jell-o after she was done.
we had an ok turn out. demonica and i had the biggest crowds on the dance
floor.
i can't wait to do it again! the one hour i had just seemed to fly by. i
could've kept going all night once i got over my nervousness.
i guess this is a bit long and no too moby oriented, so i'll stop now.
