i just got Recoil's Faith Healer in my hands. it included that Barracuda
remix by Moby. i listen it and i liked it. very respectable remix.
and i also got Voodoo Child's (a.k.a Moby) Higher single. i had it on 12"
before, but i saw it with so cheap price and i decided to buy it. higher and
desperate are good tracks, but main reason to buy that cd is sim 1, great
ambient kind of track, i just love it.

Subject: (mobility) new member, so I'm introducing myself
Hello,
After reading somebody introducing themselves to the list, I was reminded
that I might want to do the same. I just joined, too, and am currently
subscribed to the digest, but I think I'll join the regular one bc there
is not a whole absolute flood of mail (as I feared there might be) from
mobility.
My name is Sun, and I'm just a couple days shy of nineteen. The first
time I ever heard of Moby was in some Rolling Stone article, and it got me
curious about him. Finally I bought _Everything is Wrong_, and I do love
most of it. The cool thing is that some of the songs are so energetic and
make me wanna move while others are so smooth and mellow that I can
program my cd player with them and do my homework with it in the
background. Other than EIW, I have _Rare: the Collected B-sides_.
I think this guy is so talented, and I do feel that he's trying to be
"honest" in his music. While simple, plain, happy pop songs are ok, I
find myself going back to groups like Moby who just _touch_ you _that_
way.
Grr! At one of those Lollapalooza's a couple years ago, Moby did the
second stage, but I had no idea he was there. If I had known, I woulda
bought myself a ticket to see him--there were other groups I liked, but
not so much as to spend that much that much to see them. But with Moby
added, I wouldn't have been able to resist. Anyways, I think a friend of
mine actually _talked_ to him(!!) and a friend of a friend whois a good
friend of good friend ( sorry! :) ) shouted out "play some skynard!"
(lynard skynard) as he always does during concerts, and Moby actually did!
But all _I_ got was some black and white picture of him playing guitar and
singing in his Moby t-shirt out one of Detroit's free monthly's.
This email's ended up longer than I thought it would be. I hope it wasn't
boring (if you've read this far).
I've only read a couple of your posts, but you guys sound really nice.
I'm so glad to be here. With that said, however, can I ask if there are
any Pet Shop Boys fans out there? They are my absolute favorite. I love
them to death. There music takes me to heaven and makes this world into
one, too.
:P

Doesn't Moby just make the greatest B-Side songs?? Well, I don't
know about "Whip It" and "New Dawn Fades" ;)
Anyways, I was just listening to "Shining" again and I just realized
that it is probably one of my favorite Moby tracks. Great stuff. I
really like his Animal Rights, but the ones that'll last forever in my
mind are the electronic songs...

Subject: (mobility) Responses - Christ
First of all, what's with the Seven Mary Three bashing?? Just because it's
not a style of music you like doesn't mean it's not good music. I don't
really like classical music all that much, but I don't go around saying
that Mozart couldn't write a good song. After all, he wrote the Velveeta
jingle, right?? ;-)
Anyway, there was a little talk about Moby's stance on Christianity being
"dangerously ambiguous"... all I have to say is this and you can make of
it what you will: I am not a Christian. I don't go to church every
sunday, I don't read the bible. I have a lot of problem with christianity
as it stands in the sense of the organzied church. i have a lot of
problems relating to people who are so blinded by the church that they
can't see _life_.... but moby doesn't have that problem, I don't think. I
think that he sees Christ as what he stood for, not what he has come to
stand for- and he hasn't let himself be totally blinded to everything else
in the world just because he follows the teachings of Christ. I think that
if i met someone who talks about religion as frequently as moby does,
usually that would be a big turn-off for me, and i would quickly lose
interest in their conversation. however, moby has a dedication and an
honesty to it that's refreshing. he is taking it on his own terms, what HE
believes and not going by what is fed to him. i have more respect for moby
than I have for a lot of people i know- and that fact that he is one of the
best musicians I have ever heard, doing all styles of music AMAZINGLY, is a
big plus!!!!!
That's all- if you've read it this far, thanks! :-)

postmodernist relativism? any artistic expression that can trigger an

I'm glad that you mentioned this because I have been _periodically_
getting duplicates in the last week or two. I was thinking that I was
the only one since no-one mentioned it. Thanks for bringing it up...
now maybe I can turn to my ISP for some help. Just a friendly reminder
that if you are having REPEATED probs with the list operations, please
write me a letter and forward me a copy of the message/email if there is
one.
Now, as for this Christianity thing...
I myself don't believe in organized religion, it's just not the thing
for me. I feel that I have my own spirituality. I don't hate organized
religion because there is a lot of good in it. But there is also a lot
of people who abuse it, use it for power, or belittle others because of
it. You could almost compare it to a police agency. You know that it's
a good thing but there's always someone who exploits it's good, making
the whole thing look ugly. However, that's just my take on it.
As for Moby. I am sometimes surprised at how much he criticizes/attacks
others. He admits that he's not perfect and yet he mocks others for
their lack of perfection. What good does that do? Moby also proclaims
that Jesus is his idol. If so, I wonder if Moby considers half of the
stuff he does to be acceptable to him. I wouldn't think so. Or does he
expect his faults to be spared by grace? He just doesn't make sense
sometimes.

If that is so, then what is good music? Without someone's opinion, all
music is is sound waves. Soundwaves are neither good nor bad. The
way I see it, different songs/styles/artists/recordings are
related to differently by different people. When I like something I hear, I
think of it as good. When I don't like something I hear, I try not to think
of it as bad so I don't close my mind from not liking it in the future, but I
don't try to pretend to like it either. I just don't dissmiss is as "bad."

P.S. Someone mentioned the possibility that Moby was in Orlando, FL last

Julia Child...she needs some good Vegan mixes these days. Way too many meat

be bad. But seriously...he should trade mixes with Beck. Cool combo.

Moby criticises other although he himself has failing?
Well I think that's a good thing, as you can't always see your own faults
and it takes someone from outside to point these things out. If none of
us criticised others because we we busy contemplating our own navels,
what a quiet little introspective world we'd live in. Imagine a world
with no discussion or debate, no criticism, no differences of opinion,
no Mobilty :-(
He' human like the rest of us, he isn't God. He con't always be right,
but he does have a point of view. I personally respect him a lot
because he has opinions and is prepared to use all media to express
them. Better that sitting at home and saying nothing.
