How do you know? Maybe he WANTS to make techno... Is it that if anyone
makes techno now they are selling out? Why would moby be selling out?
Whats the difference between him making another techno album and David
Bowie making a techno album (and dont even start on David Bowie). I
think if Moby were to make a techno album we would (almost) all devour
it with our ears.

Im very confused. Why is wanting to be popular selling out? When I
listened to grunge/punk/underground/what ever you want to call it rock
n' roll it was selling out to make your hardcore music slower and softer
so that you could get signed to a record company or to make your music
more radio friendly. Moby totally switched genres something (and the
reviews prove this) that isnt being accepted wholeheartedly.

They are usually in the Techno/Ambient sections here in Toronto,
although you are right that sometimes you find it in the R&B sections
of the bigger, more commercial music stores. BTW, where do you do
your music shopping? I actually can find most of the tehcno stuff
I'm looking for in Toronto, except some of the rarest imports(like
Paul Van Dyk's "Seven Ways", which I have been looking forever for).
The only thing is that the imports are pretty expensivc, like
Orblivion, which I saw at a few places for $29.99. But all in all,
the techno scene is pretty decent - well....at least on Queen St. if
nowhere else, and we don't get too many concerts up here either.

yeah...
i agree with you...it probably is one of the best,
because it really doesn't sound like the original....
and really, in one of the trancripts, Moby said himself that the reason he
did that so differently is because he hated the original version of the song.
i do like that very much..if you have the lp version of it, speed it up and
see what it sounds like..real nice.

Is there something wrong with not having anything negative to say to
Moby? I don't think there's anything wrong with criticizing him either.

I think the reason echo got kicked off the list was because of

I thought he responded to the critisism as well as he could. It seemed
like almost every time echo said something, Moby responded with a
good answer. He probably would have done even better if the chat
hadn't been going so fast.

You may be right, but Moby is so unpredictable that it could just be a

I'm a new guy on the list, so I thought to introduce myself.
I'm a twenty year old college student, soon to be a Texas Aggie.
I don't have much of a Moby collection as such, but I've got a few.
Since I heard the Rainforest Mix of Go on a techno cd I borrowed from a
buddy a while back, I have been grabbing up all the Moby stuff I can.
Anyway, I'm engrossed in the beginnings of March Madness just now, so
I'm going to shut up. Adios...

Subject: (mobility) Yet Another Review
This one is from the local school paper...
CD Briefs
by Josh Casten
Moby's debut was a surprising mix of aural melodies, hyper dance beats
and some outright thrash. But sometime between then and now, he got tired
of dance music, and decided to record a straight-up rock record. The sound
of Animal Right is basically a lo-fi Nine Inch Nails - his guitars sound a
little too washed out, the drums are muffled and Moby is using way too much
reverb on his own voice. Animal Rights is also sorely lacking in variety -
almost everything is at 200 bpm with lots of shouting, over melodies that
can only be described as brutish.
The only relief comes from the soundscape instrumentals, something that
Moby can still pull off pretty well. The second half of the CD is in fact
dominated by slower, more patient material. "Old" and the violin-accented
"Love Song For My Mom" are just plain beautiful, achingly hypnotic and
soothing. But it's still pretty jarring to be riding the chaotic wave that
reaches a peak with "That's When I Reach For My Revolver" and then get dumped
on a glittering, soothing beach.
Ok..it's me again..the review came w/ a picture I don't recognize(maybe it's
w/ the US AR?!?)..Moby's sitting on concrete(?!?!)...one hand to his head...
one on his knee..looks like he has Nike's on...2 Black guys are walking behind
him...gonna get ahold of the paper to see where they got it...Also...just a
reminder...set your vcr's to record this weeks 120 Minutes..Moby's gonna be a
guest (woo hoo!) :)

The closest picture I've seen to what you described is the one on
the Official US Website:

He's on concrete and there are people behind him.. I also saw this

highly recommend it. I don't think it is rare. The reason you are

so they issue more singles and albums out in distribution. BTW,
Prodigy will be here in Chicago on April 14th at the Metro! I'm

Apparently, this one will include new remixes by various artists,

They're pretty good. They don't have much in the way of imports or
techno, but what they do have is priced well and delivered quickly.
I've ordered from CDnow several times in the last couple years.
For imports and rarer items (but not necessarily more techno), take
a look at German Music Express (http://www.musicexpress.com/), CD
