I wouldn't call it a techno record. It's got techno tracks, pop tracks,
rock tracks, and simphonic tracks. A little of everything. About the
vocals question, most of the tracks have vocals, but only a few of them
are sung by moby himself.

It's got some good tracks. Each CD is a different style. CD1 is more
melodic dance stompers and CD2 is more minimal house stuff. I prefer
CD1, but some people like CD2 better. One cool thing about it is that It
only costs as much as one CD. But unfortunatly it's only available as an
import.

All I know about the track Moby is to remix is that it's called Dead Man
Walking (not the Springstean song). The only song of Earthling I've
heard is Little Wonder. It's a great catchy tune. Besides those manic
beats, it sounds sort of like something from the 60s.

I've heard the Smashing Pumpkins remix and the Pet Shop Boys remix.
The SP one is great. It's pretty psychedelic. The PSB one is ok, but not
a memorable as the Pumpkins one.

In the SN-Studio chat with Moby, I asked him if he ever thought about
working with Trent. He said that he met Trent once and that they
discussed possibly working together. To quote Moby, "Trent's a
sweetie." But I doubt that it will happen in the near future, since Trent
is currently working on two albums, one with Tapeworm (Some
members of the NIN live band), and the next NIN album (which he says
will have a hip-hop sound btw). Trent also says he'd like to work with
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. If Trent ever works with Moby it'll probably be a
long time away.

Check out EIW. It's a good introduction to Moby's different styles.

Subject: (mobility) Moby and Trent Reznor
Hi all,
Someone on the list said that Moby and Reznor are on completely different
planes of music. That might be true. Sometimes I think they try to express
the same basic things at least. Here's an interesting idea that most of you
might not object to: What if the two combined Trent Reznor's (I think)
amazing ability of screwing with sounds and samples with Moby's power to
combine sounds into one fluid piece of expression (the way all music should
be)?? Trent would mostly make the samples - Moby would write most of the
song. Both would create the basic outline for the piece. I think that's a
pretty amazing idea. And to the many that find Reznor's music mindless
garbage - I think he is a very good songwriter. Sometimes the basic
structure is very simple - but so is Moby's, eh? Anyway, let's not start a
chain of letters comparing Moby and Reznor. oh dear! What have I started!?
And on a different note...
A few months ago I assembled my own personal Everything Is Wrong album.
That is, I took the remixes of each song that I liked the most and
assembled them in the order they come on the real EIW. Good idea? And get
this - I did it all on an old Pioneer 1/4inch 7inch reel-to-reel and right
now I am listening to it at half speed! I love it! Very relaxing even on
the fast stuff! And the SLOW stuff - WOW!

Yes, I think that would be amazing. The way you explain makes it seem so
logical, too.

new work from trent? *cough*(oldshitremixed)*cough* *cough* =) naww.. I'm,
or I should say WAS, a big nin fan, then I got burnt out on Trent's
self-destructive / sadistic / masocistic / etc.. style, I still get a kick
out of the 'fixed' ep =) but this isn't a nin discussion group, so, uh..
how about EIW? <g> Now I could see some trent vs. moby remixes, that would
be interesting .. everything trent mixes ends up with a nin feel, a little
dark undertone just beyond the rest of the song, and moby, well.. moby just
rips stuff apart and rebuilds it moby-style

like shaun rader said, i hope not...
i have recorded stuff from all the episodes except when they were
first aired at the end of october (two weeks, i believe), but as
far as i know, they're the same as the first episode they showed
when they started them up again in mid december with only a minor
change or two.
if people want me to post my list of amp to the maillist, i will,
but it's over 200 lines and i post it to rec.music.ambient and
alt.music.synthpop occasionally, so you could just wait to see it
there. again, if enough people are interested, i will post it here.

wow...i can't believe people are just finding out about the prodigy after
"firestarter". hehe...that just baffles me. am i the only one who saw
the prodigy with moby and cybersonic in early '93? the prodigy sucked

fyi, i have every domestic/import single/album by the prodigy. :>

well to defend smashing pumpkins (which a rarely do.. their performance
at the tibetian freedom concert sucked so bad) is that they are on the
lost highway.. a soundtrack (that comes out to day and) dominated by
hard electronic music (nin, marilyn manson) and so they probably went a
bit more electronic than usual (plus didnt they add a keyboard player to
the line up?) also having Filters old drummer (one of the nicest guys

i don't want to stray off the moby topic for too long, but i just need to
say this...in an interview (actually...in several interviews) billy corgan
has stated that electronic music is the wave of the future. the new
pumpkins tune is not hard...it's quite mellow...sounds like a more
modern yazoo type song. there's absolutely no guitar nor real drums.
it's all synth. it's quite the pleasant song, especially for someone who
doesn't care for the pumpkins much. i first heard it a few weeks ago.
anyway, i think that maybe that's the new direction for them. as everyone
knows...grunge is dying a long-anticipated death. moby's "animal rights"
came out at the wrong time. death to the guitar! j/k :>

Funny that you mention The Prodigy and Smashing Pumpkins in the same
sentence because The Pumpkins have been known to play their own version of
Firestarter at their concerts!
You're right about the Prodigy going mainstream aswell.I remember seeing
them about 5-6 years ago, when they used to throw "E" to the crowd. They are
still probably the best live act around though.
BTW does anybody have a spare copy of The Prodigy E.P. "What Evil Lurks"

No, no, no! Then country would be then next big thing and if that happened
I would just have to kill myself or cut off my ears or something else
terribly drastic. How about we all start listening to new age or classical.
That would really throw the industry into chaos.

End of mobility Digest V1 #5
****************************
To subscribe to mobility Digest, send the command:
subscribe mobility-digest
in the body of a message to "majordomo@xmission.com". If you want to
subscribe something other than the account the mail is coming from, such
as a local redistribution list, then append that address to the
"subscribe" command; for example, to subscribe "local-mobility":
subscribe mobility-digest local-mobility@your.domain.net
A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to
subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "mobility-digest"
in the commands above with "mobility".
Back issues are available for anonymous FTP from ftp.xmission.com, in
pub/lists/mobility/archive. These are organized by date.
