I remember about 5 months ago there was a magazine (US, probably Rolling
Stone, Spin or Details or something) that had a short half-page piece
called "Inside Moby's Mind" and it had a picture of Moby's head, and a
bunch of things coming out of it (the Simpsons was one of them). I'm just
curious if anybody remembers the exact issue that it was in. I looked
through all of my old magazines and couldn't find it.
BTW-I finally heard the fucked up version of Everytime You Touch me from

Howdy...
It doesn't seem like much is going on with Moby and such these days.
But when you really think about it... he has been keeping himself busy.
He's toured and still is touring quite a bit (mainly in Europe however)
and he's been doing mixes here and there.
One recent example of Moby mixing can be found on my web page. I know
we've heard about Moby doing something for John Lydon, well, now we have
the stuff. Moby has remixed the song "Grave Ride" and I was fortunate
enough to get a copy. The mix is currently available on a promo CD that
has the full upcoming album plus some remixes. I'm happy with what Moby
did to the song (especially when you compare it to the original). On my
web page, you'll find two wave samples: One is a short sample - 30 sec
(319k) - under 2 min on a 28.8 modem. The other is longer - 60 seconds
(646k) - under 4 min on a 28.8 modem. I wish I could have provided the
whole thing in MP3 but it looks like my CD-ROM doesn't have the tools
necessary to do the job. Maybe I'll find a fix-it tomorrow, if so, I'll
let ya know.

If moby only likes dance music with melody, then what's the deal with
most of what's on disc to of EIW Remixed? That stuff has almost no
melody? Has he changed his opinion since he made those mixes, or is
he just a hipocrite (sp). Speaking of Moby being a hipocrite, there is a
Lopez song, I think, called Anyone Can Do It, or something like that.
I assume that is a negative comment on techno today. But Moby claims
to be 'punk', right? Isn't the idea that you don't need talent to make
good music a big part of the punk philosophy.
I still respect Moby. Those are just some contradictions I noticed.

Ok. I don't remember the *EXACT* Select Sampler that it was on (about 10
months ago I believe). It was tape only and also had an Underworld song.
The remix is called the "Fucked Up" version, and it's a speed metal ditty
with him singing. He sounds absolutely amazing-especially when he yells
the chorus about 3 times faster than normal. I'm buying a cd burner in the
next couple of weeks-so I plan on borrowing my friends copy of the tape
again and...well you can figure out the rest ;)

Everybody Can Do It-actually a pretty good song that sounds like he's
having sex with a theremin ;)
I don't think Moby's ever *claimed* to be a punk at all-I know he was in a
punk band, and listened to punk music, but I don't think he's technically
ever claimed to live by the punk ethic. I could be wrong though....

My point was that he's already being a hypocrite by making music and
touring to support that music(which in some way..destroys the
environment..which we all know he's against)..But as for your point..I
dunno..maybe he changed his mind..maybe those mixes weren't mean for

Hi I'm new here so I'm supposed to introduce myself.
My name is Kate, I'm 16. Like Moby, I am from Connecticut (not
specifically from Darien but I do have family there). I have been a total
fan since I first heard Everything is Wrong when I was a freshman (I just
finished my junior year of high school). I would not shut up about Moby
and played EIW continuously. When I went to Lollapalooza 95 in Hartford I
was sitting wiht my friend and we were talking about what show we wanted to
go to next, and I was like "I want to see Moby." We were flipping through
the program and He WAS PLAYING SECOND STAGE THAT DAY! We left halfway
through Cypress Hill to go see him, and tho it had started out a nice day
it was pouring rain and with maybe 50 other devoted fans we waited it out
to see him. It was incredible. He played materail mostly from EIW, and
during 'Feeling So Real' the rain stopped and there was a huge rainbow
over the stage. He also played SweeT Home Alabama and Paradise City.
I met Moby this past weekend at a big stupid radio station concert
in Agawam, Mass. There were 20 bands there but my friend and I (the same
girl from Lolla 95) went only to see Moby. We were stuck in *5* hours of
traffic and ended up paying an exorbitant amount to park on some guy's lawn
but we made it. Moby was incredible. I had to shred my way through a
crowd of ten year olds and their parents but I made it up to the very
front. It wsa so worth it. He played a bunch of stuff from EIW, Paranoid
by Balck Sabbath ("This next song is called 'Paranoid.' I wrote it when I
was three."), and some stuff from Animal Rights. Afterwards I did get the
chance to actually meet him in this little tent which was surrounded by
pre-teen girls hoping to catch a glimpse of Better than Ezra. He was very
polite (I was so excited that I was crying really hard) and signed my Move
CD and my EIW shirt. He also signed my arm. He hugged me and gave me a
kiss and I was just like "I love you." I'm such a pathetic little fan
girl.
So anyway, sorry that was so long but I had to get it out. I only
own Move and EIW but I have heard most of his stuff under the name Moby and
some of the Voodoo Child stuff. Its hard to buy a lot when you have no
money. Other electronic artists that I like are the Chemical Brothers,
Underworld, and the Future Sound of London. My favorite bands are Sonic
Youth, Pavement, the Breeders, the Clash, DEpeche Mode, the Cure, the
Smiths, Hole, the Smashing Pumpkins, Morphine, Beck...let's just say I have
a wide range of musical tastes but only within certain areas. The bands I
have liked the longest are probably the Cure and Depeche Mode, I got their
tapes when I was 7. Before that I pretty much liked the Talking Heads and
Mr. Rogers. I've never really listened to like Top 40 music, and I'm
sayinfg that just as a fact and not to be incredibly pretentious. I've
been typing forever so that's all for now...

Hmmmmm...samples of Mr. Rogers in a techno beat..Why not? They did it

i would like to add one comment.. i just saw Moby interview from tv , and
moby said that: one year ago i really hated dance music, but now after all i
have realized that most of the rock bands are boring like dance music bands
and i actually like dance music right now.. and he also said that his next
album could be like techno again =) yeah.. cool..

Well, just some more rambles. I am a big basketball fan, and when I
was watching game 3 of the Rockets-Supersonics on NBC and who did they
play in the background as they were talking about Houston's big 3
(Barkley, Drexler and Olajuwon)????? They were playing Moby's
version of New Dawn Fades!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!!! I was like,
"I wonder if Moby knows about this...." Anyway, went to a record
shop in downtown Chicago and found TWIRFMR on vinyl. They had two
different copies of it. One white cover and one black. I bought the
white one. Sister Bliss and Rollo were there and I had them sign the
vinyl, I figured it made sense since there remix was on it. They
were like, "Yeah. We had fun making this mix." I was like,
"Thanks." I felt like such a dork. They were spinnin' shit in the
store and it sounded real good.
Now about the worst day of my life. Sunday, May 25. I was
going to see Moby that day, I thought it was going to be a great
experience. I woke up at 10:00 a.m. I was listening to the radio
and heard that moby was playing at 12:45. I figured if I left at
11:00 I would be there on time. I was waiting at my house for the
rest of my so called friends to arrive so we could go. One of my now
enemies did not arrive until 12:15. We had to wait for him since he
had the tickets. We did not get there until 1:45. I missed the
whole set!!! I was SSSSOOOO pissed. I felt like committing
suicide. I really did. I went to my seat and just sunk there the
whole day. Then as I was watching Jamoruquai, I saw some kid with a
moby drawing on his hat. He told me that moby was signing
autographs. I was like, kewl. I got there AND HE WAS GONE!!!!! I
fell to the ground. People were asking me if I was alright and
helping me up. I just wanted to die. And I owe it all to this
asshole who will remain nameless. I read the set list just now and I
am now crying. I can't believe it. The only guy I wanted to see.
From now on no one will come between me and Moby. No one.

There's a good chance that your friend didn't mean to make your life so
miserable. I know it really sucks to get your hopes up and have them
crushed like that, but just think about what's more important-seeing some
guy perform music you've already heard, or keeping a friend?
I know I'd probably be pretty pissed off too however...Oh well...listen to

That sounds cool. I assume he will be doing that to promote the U.S.
release of The End of Everything, which is sort of ironic seeing as
how in the liner notes to TEoE, he says he released it under the
name Voodoo Child so he wouldn't have to promote it. Perhaps the
record company is forcing him to, or maybe he just wants to.

part of being a human is dealing with the fact that we are all
hypocrites in one way or another. humans are not perfect and
can not be expected to live godly lives. if you are not a hypocrite,

i don't know, maybe he is not going to tour with it on a large
scale. i don't think that the album should be promoted because it
is not a very commercial release and i don't think that many
people woudl find it interesting unless they are fans of that type of
music and if they are then they would most likely already know
about it.

Which makes you wonder if "The End of Everything" is going to be
released as we all expect. Made he'll do something comparable to the US
version of "Animals Rights". Watch, the album will have its touchstone
songs that we all know of... then seperate relentless and pounding
electronic mixes will be added! <G>
Okay, maybe not... it might diminish what "The End of Everything"
established. Still, we don't know what to expect from this release. I
agree that the album doesn't stand much of a chance when it comes to a
commercial release. And yes I want to see a domestic release but its
not going to be a cash cow if that's what Elektra is aiming for.

i'd like to see some new mixes with it as well.
i love the extended mix of dog heaven. probably my favorite new moby
dance song. i think that he would be really successful if he'd keep the
cinematices of alot of his current electronic stuff, and add some heavy
high bpm beats to it.

i agree. if elektra is trying to promote this album, they are making a big
mistake. they will most definitely lose money on it. i am really curious to
see whta the concert will be like tho. i mean, i've never heard moby play
any ambient stuff at a live show. has anyone? this has gotten me excited,
and if it turns out to be cancelled, then i'm gonna burn all my moby
merchandise.
ok, maybe i won't burn anything, but i'll be mad.

It was great it was about four minutes long...and then he did the cool Moby

yes, its true...RS had a little article which had moby talking about his
facination with porn and his x-girlfriends!! i am reallly shocked...
heres the article
------------------------
MOBY, technos vegan christian philosipher, changed his tune recently with the
release of a hard-rock opus, Animal Rights. here, he rhapsodizes about
another of his secular persuits.
"i'm facinated by pornography and the sex trade. ive dated 2 strippers and a
prostitute, which i found out after we were dating awhile. i thought it was
really cool. she made 2000 a night working for [a hollywood madam] and did
it because she really enjoyed it. she had a great day job, then at night
would go hang out with arab princes and be flown all over the place. she
found it sexually exciting, but it can become "de rigueur". [another]
x-girlfriend has stripped for 5 years, and it has simply become a way to make
money quickly. she can do it without batting an eye.
"2 friends and i have a plan ready for a sex store. i envision attractive
punk rock kids and a sence of humor to it. therre's the mythic level to
pornography...somthing honest about it in a weird way."
moby's facination may come in handy; he's negotiating with Axl Rose - at one
time known for his x-rated tastes - to co-produce the next guns and roses
album.

hi
i am denine. i am kinda new to the list (i have been reading, but not

anyway. i like several of bigwig's ideas ...
your A-I sequence of getting someone back for missing Moby is beautiful! : )
and a Moby/U2 tour would just blow me away. i am supposed to see U2 in Paris
in Sept. i like U2's older stuff, so i am not incredibly excited to see them
now. but i keep thinking, "now if i was going to see Moby ... WOOHOO!!!"
i was in a friend's car several months ago, and i saw a small Moby poster. i
picked it up, and it was for a show Moby did back in '95 here in Albuquerque.
i just wanted to die. my friend said he went, and had a blast. i don't know
what the heck i was doing around the time of the show, but i never heard a
word about it. I could reach for my revolver ...

Even tho my whole radio station concert thing worked out ok I can
totally relate! We were in *5* hours of traffic to get there! We're like,
"ok 4 hours till Moby." then it was 3 hours then 2...By the time we got
there it was like 45 minutes. these little 'alternative format' radio
stations do the *worst* organization job! They're always running late and
no one knows where anything is!! Sorry to get off the subject. I'd like
to say keep yr friend, its more important, but under the circumstances I
don't know if I would.
I wonder what Moby thinks about all this stuff being played at
basketball games. Moby on the next Jock Jams CD??? I don't know if that
would be really good or really bad. Probably good for us and bad for him.
The rap thing...I think ryu put all those reasons why hiphop sucks
and I'd have to agree. I go to a private school that's pretty much all
white kids listening to B.I.G. and Cypress...you get sick of it soo fast.
One last thing as long as we're identifying what we do in terms of
Moby -- I am NOT at all Christian (celebrate Christmas but have never been
to church ever) and I eat meat.
Ok one really really last thing. I read the Moby/Porn thing in RS.
I found it kind of tragically bizarre. I guess I thouhgt he'd be above
thaty kind of stuff. And I can't believe all those girlfriends!! Who'd of
thunk...they took that photo from the Spin interview a while back. I
really like it. Its kind of disturbing and intimate at the same time.

the reason that most people don't like hip hop anymore is because it sucks.
besides that, i think people are turned off by it for the following reasons:
-cliche lyrics
do you seriously believe that #1) all hip-hop lyrics are cliche'ed, and #2) that hip-hop is the only
style of music to hae cliche'ed lyrics? i think that as far as music goes, there's a lot more variety
in hip-hop lyrics than elsewhere...
-the same old beats over and over
in the mass-produced crap, yeah, ok, i'll give you that. check out the new wu-tang clan, many
new and interesting beats.
-no more turntable use, all samples
again, you're right in the majority, but there are still plenty of artist who use turntables... check
out dj krush, for example...
-lost its rock influences
is this really a bad thing? i mean, i like run dmc as much as the next guy, but what's wrong with
music evolving?
-no real differences amongst artists
please explain yourself on this. there is *most certainly* a difference between, say, Old Dirty
Bastard and, uh, say, Ice Cube.
also, some of the best jungle i have heard relies heavily upon hip-hop as a basis...
ok, now let me babble a bit about moby so i don't get flamed too hard. :)
there's a shamen disc out there with a remix of 'move any mountain'... it's pretty slick. i'd advise
you to look for it. i think, in fact, it's the 'move any mountain' single.

I don't remember seeing this mentioned here previously, but I noticed
something while looking at the sleeves for 2 of my CDs.
Is the East Village Pharmacy pictured in the inside front of _Animal
Rights_ the same store The Chemical Brothers are hanging around in the last
picture of _Dig Your Own Hole_? Or are pharmacies with this name common in
NYC?

Well, if any of you care I decided to keep my friend. Reason being he said
he will pay for me for the next time Moby comes around. I found out from a
friend at NBC sports about the continous Moby play. If some of you don't
know, Moby's GMOTFOTW and New Dawn Fades has been playing during NBC
basketball games through out the playoffs. I was wondering, "What album has
these 2 songs on it??? Anybody???" HEAT!!!! He (my friend) said one of
the sound guys got a hold of the soundtrack for HEAT and has been playing
"numerous" tracks from it for filler when they show stats and stuff. I
realized it during game 4 of the finals when the played other tracks from the
CD. I should ask them if they have to pay for that or what??? Enough Moby
stuff, time for Prodigy. Did anyone see them here in Chicago June 30th???
IT WAS THE BEST CONCERT I'VE EVER BEEN AT, EVER!!!! The only thing was
they didn't play much from Experience. Breathe, (good video, BTW), Poison
and Landmines were the best. Okay, now more Moby stuff. I read that RS
article and was like, "okay." My other friends, moby fans as well, were
like, "That's stupid. Why date a prostitute??? 'Honey, go fuck someone else
for money. I'm Moby, I don't have enough money' " I was saying who cares
who he is with and as long as he's happy. That's the way I see it.

Cheers! I'm glad things ended up working out...

I saw them in Toronto on the 23rd of May....I was incredibly unimpressed.
They played all of their biggies right off the bat, the sound was
*terrible* and the show lasted about an hour with no opener. I dunno-I
guess I was expecting another show as good as the Chemical Brothers or Die
Krupps...

I saw the prodigy show here in chicago, it was great. As for the
friendship, I had almost the exact same experience at the Jamboree, only my
friend refused to leave early enough to get there on time, because "i'll
leave when I damn well please." This despite him repeatedly assuring me
that we'd see Moby, and that he had no problem driving us. Then he feigned
sickness, so we had to leave early. the bastard.

The way I think it works that if you're going to play cd's to a

hi. i'm matty, esquire, phd, md. age closer to single digits than tripple.
first time i've seen moby? l*llalooza '95. second time: last sunday at nine
thirty. and then he 'that's when i reach for my revolver' with the mighty
mighty bosstones, and that dude from mission of burma. big fan. also listen
to other techno bands, industrial bands, and several ska bands. also, rem,
sonic youth, tori amos.
on to my letter. how much of 'what love' is electronic? is it all guitars
and drums? or is there some keyboards hidden behind all the feedback. same
question on 'all i need is to be loved' and everything off of animal rights.
did he lose his keyboards, or just misplace them?

there is an obvious synth part in "atinitbl." it's durring the part
without vocals.
AR is mostly real. there are parts (like all the songs from LI that are
on the domestic version) that are synthy, but not many.
i personally hate the drum sound, which is the only consistantly unreal
part. and i wish moby would have found a real drummer instead of a
lifeless drum machine. very boring drum lines, even for rock. there are
some amazing punk drummers out there. and what about the guys moby plays
with live? why didn't they play on AR?

Hi...my name's Athena and I'm 22. I first got into Moby thanks to a
friend of mine who was utterly OBSEDDED with him. She used to listen
to
"all I want is to be loved" over and over and over in her apartment.
Eventually it drilled into me and I've been listening to him ever
since. That was about 4 or 5 years ago and I've since seen Moby
twice and
attened two release parties for him. It was also a great honor for m to
be asked to help and DJ one of those parties.
My Moby collection isn't that big...I have a very tapes that
people have given me and the copy of Everything Is Wrong that I got when
I DJed at the party. I still haven't picked up the new one
yet. I saw Moby a few weeks ago in MASS. at Riverside and
was disappointed that they stuck him on such a small stage. It was cool
to see them play all the great old songs, but clumped together right in
a row...that I could have done without. And the people there had no
idea what to make of Moby, since the show was an all day thing put on
every year by one of the local alternitive radio stations. The
headliners were Better than Ezra and Local H...so most people there
didnt' even really know who Moby was! But the ones that were there for
him were fantiasticly supportive. Most of the others just sort of
stared in confustion at everybody actually DANCING and trying to beat
the crap out of eachother. Except when Moby did some of the newer
stuff, that was when the mosh pit would comeback. But as soon as he
went back to techno, the most pit stopped and the real dancing came
back. It was also very cool to see Moby standing on the side of the
stage during Echo & The Bunnymen singing along with EVERY song they
played.
As far as other bands I like I have a very wide range of
musical interstes. Some of the biggest and most important ones are
techno, industrial and goth. Some specific favorites are Josh Wink,
Frankie Bones, Doc Marten, James Christian, Space Time Continum, Cosmic
Baby,db, Fluke, Underworld, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Ministry,
Front 242, Rev. Co., Nitzer Ebb, Coil, Bauhaus, London After Midnightand
lots more. I'm very open when it comes to music...I also like celtic and
some folk-ish stuff too. I play the guitar, bass and keyboards and
studied recording and production in college.
I live in CT, but I'm looking for people in the NYC area to go
to raves and parties with. (I'm new down here and am used to the Boston
scene and haven't ventured out into the NYC clubs yet...) So if there's
anybody out there that might be willing to show me around...that'd be
wicked cool.
Until later....
rave-on!

One of my favorite things to do when I need a Moby
fix is to make a Moby mix tape. This can include his
own tracks as well as remixes he's done for other
artists. I just got my hands on a great 12" of "Damage
I've Done" from The Heads. It includes 2 remixes done
by Moby. The sticker on the sleeve says "Remixed and
undamaged by Moby." Moby Melodic Deep Mix & Moby Sad
Gospel Mix.

Oh Phathead, you've discovered a not-so-secret passion of mine.
I've actually gone so far as to program out a cd I'm going to cut here as
soon as I get all the tracks arranged with the proper versions I'm lookin=
g
for. It's right at 73 minutes (one minute shy of the limit of recordable
cd's), and I'd still like to put more stuff on. Anyway, here is my track
list for my Moby best of mix disc (tentatively titled "Jesus" because the
cover photo I'm going to use has him wearing a Jesus tshirt).
1. Hymn (This is My Dream) 3:46
2. All That I Need is to be Loved (MV) 5:35
3. Bring Back My Happiness (Extended) vs. Move (Disco Threat) 7:30 (This =
is
from the mixed and remixed cd. However, I don't want to use the recording
there because of the way it is crossfaded, particularly with ATINITBL. I'=
ll
trade a copy of "Jesus" to the DJ that can perfectly recreate Moby's live
mix -- finger stopping the record and all -- and record it to DAT for use
on this compilation.)
4. Next is the E 4:42
5. That=92s When I Reach for My Revolver 3:58
6. the Blue Light of the Underwater Sun 4:22
7. Go 3:36
8. God Moving Over the Face of the Waters 7:22
9. Love Hole 3:43
10. UHF 3 5:15
11. Electricity 3:29
12. Come On Baby (UK) 4:41
13. Feeling So Real (Main Edit) 4:10
14. Heaven 8.25
15. All That I Need is to be Loved (HOS) 2:45
16. Hymn 3:18
Approx. Time: 73:00
I would also LOVE to include Moby's "Fucked Up" thrash/country/ska versio=
n
of "Everytime You Touch Me" that appeared on the Select Music Magazine
cassette sampler recently. I'll also trade a copy of the disc to whoever
can provide a DAT, cd of and/or great quality ORIGINAL cassette for use,
with good suggestions on where to fit it in the mix. I'm thinking dump or
edit "Heaven," but I want to have at least one track from every record, a=
nd
it's the only song of that style from "Ambient" that fits. Or I could fin=
d
two minutes by using the "Heat Mix" of "God Moving...", but I don't have =

DE>His next album is set to be a collection of Moby songs that have featured

Finally..for once...I won't have to decide between getting the

less $$$.
DE>As well as the
DE>reworked Bond theme, the album will feature new recordings of Moby classics
DE>such as "Go", "I Feel It", and his legendary cover of Joy Division's "New
DE>Dawn Fades" (never before released on album),
Hmmmm...how many more times can Go be remixed/recorded?

What song did he do for Scream?
DE>The album will also include several new tracks from Moby's first

How come I have "Spinal Tap" flash through my head each time I hear

The Fucked Up version is just thrash, not country or ska. That's the
way he does it live, but there is no known country/thrash/ska
version on any recording. There is a "slow dance" version on the
Live In Minneapolis bootleg. Is that a country version?

I know that... Im just saying that because of what mtv did.. and so
everyone else who ONLY watches mtv knows..
Im wondering if he was able to get on Viva Variety and play that song,
maybe he could squeeze in on Leno or Letterman.. or even Conan.. Conan
always lets the less popular (mainstream) in.. meaning bands people havent
always heard of..

I really is over 5 minutes, and it's my favorite version of Move. It's
really laid back and simple. More so than the Electro Mix. Moby plays
bongo drum in this version.

There are some other good tracks too. There's a funny cover of
Throbbing Gristles's Persuasion by Billie Ray Martin and Spooky.
There's also an Aphex Twin track called Analogue Bubblebath 3,
which is just ambient noise all the way through. There's a remix of
Majestic by the Orb, but I think the original is better. But there is
a really good remix by the Orb of a Bill Laswell track on that comp.

Hello all,
I have six copies of the "Come On Baby" limited 2CD set for sale. I had
been searching for one copy ever since the set was released. When I
finally got one I decided to go nuts and see if I could get more... well
three months later I recieved ten copies. Four have already been sold,
now I'm offering the rest to the list.
The cost is $20 US dollars for one copy. This includes shipping if
located within the the US or Canada. I will only accept checks or money
orders. And of course, if anyone outside of the US or Canada wants one,
I would be happy to work with you on it.

There are some other good tracks too. There's a funny cover of
Throbbing Gristles's Persuasion by Billie Ray Martin and Spooky.

that move mix is also on "textures." it's on the disk mixed by darren
emerson. i thought that it was a pretty lame set of disks, so i don't
recommend buying it just for the one song.

For the completist who wants the Volume Mix of Move, just get Trance
Europe Express. Many of the tracks on there now seem dated, but it
includes tracks from various good artists including Orbital, Aphex
Twin, The Orb, and Moby, in *unmixed*, unadultered form.
BTW, this TEX version of Move is not merely a longer version of Move
(You Make Me Feel So Good). It is a remix, with entirely different
and more mellow instrumentation, as is Moby's remixing style. The
mix is quite good, but there are better mixes out there somewhere if
you can find them. Get the 12" of Move if you can, because it's
worth its weight in gold. Almost. :)

It was originaly called (Subversion). I have a tape
of a Moby interview with that information. Moby's mix
of Beat It can be found on the 12" Michael Jackson
single Who Is It(also mixes from Moby)
In fact I have 3 different radio interviews with Moby
about 45 minutes each. 1992,1993 and 1995. One even includes
a live studio mix!!! These tapes are priceless to me.
But I don't have any Moby live shows on tape.
Does anyone want to trade a copy of a live show for these
interview tapes.

Agreed, I think Moby would speak up. However, DEF is subscribed to the
list and the MOBESTER could easily be "watching" that way among other
ways. But then again, I can't see Moby watching and not be vocal

Yeah, I'll think about it. But I would definitely want the full 'unmixed'

i was in the very front and there were like 4 men in their fourties

you won't hear any "please no"'s from me!
ATR are a great band and i'd like to hear moby to something similar
to their style.
as for the next moby album, i'm predicting a more classical style of
ambient with maybe more live sounding strings and simple melodic
acoustic guitar work. and to throw things off balance, more dancier
industrial type electro guitar rock instead of death metal or punk.
and hopefully, less drum machines and mic reverb.

I don't know.... I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I actually *like*
Green Day. That kind of poppy punk is actually what I usually listen to -
I'm a punk and ska man meself. What first attracted me to Moby is how he
managed to shift genres on EIW, but still pull the whole album together as a
cohesive element. Moby's actually the only "techno" act I listen to.
Because of this, I did find AR disappointing but for what I'm sure are
different reasons others on here found it disappointing. It's just that it
sounds so similar to a lot of the other stuff I listen to on a regular basis.
(Okay, not on the poppy side, but more on the hardcore side.)

this is what it read about Moby:
Moby is truly first superstar to be born of the raveculture. Since his
timeless u.k hit go (on which replicated the "Twin Peaks" theme of the
pleasure of its composer Angelo Badalamenti), his meteoric rise to stardom
as a solo artists, performer and radically innovative remixer (Michael
Jackson, The Shamen, Pet Shop Boys, B-52's and Brian Eno) has been
unpredicated for a non-major lavel artist. here, his latest through his own
production company, T.L.I., is typical Moby-straddling the ever-fluctuating,
increasily porous division between house and techno.
that T.L.I productions keep me wondering.. what is that company, is Moby
released something else through that company. anyone knows?

there's a lot of pseudo-punk out there. I'm not necessarily sure animal
rights, it's just that it's a faster paced rock album. but, there are
several punk-ish songs like "heavy flow".
also, covering a mission of burma (punk band) song puts that song in the
category sort of. Long live power chords!

well, at first, moby thought raves were wonderfull. they were happy,
communal (sp?), and open to every kind of style. he didn't think ecstasy
was bad at all. then, raves became more and more drug oriented, and the
music less and less open... oh, here's a quote:
"well, yeah, that was one of the great things about it innitally. i
watched how the dance scene evolved in the states almost in line with the
drugs. at first it was so ecstasy-fulled, which ment it was all lovong
celebration, wonderful to be part of, even thought i never did ecstasy.
thatn the focus shifted to acid, ketemine, pcp and pot-smoking. you could
see that in six months it went from this energetic celebratory thing to
kids curled up in the corner rocking back and forth. that's about the
time i lost interest."
and another:
i played at a festival in sweden, and they had two tents the day i
played. they had athe speed-metal tent and the dance tent. a friend and i
went to see biohazard play in the speed metal tent, and there were about
8,000 people slam-dancing like crazy, jumping up and down, everybody just
having a wonderful time. then we went to the dance tent, and st. etienne
were playing, and 5,000 people were standing still. that biohazard was
closer to a rave than anything i've been to in the past two years."
hope that helped!

I just said more of hardcore to differentiate Moby's punkish style from
the more melodic style of punk (like Screeching Weasel and the Mr. T
Experience). Still, I think a song like "Someone to Love" pulses with
hardcore intensity. And I mean *good* hardcore like Minor Threat as
opposed to crappy metal-wannabe hardcore like Earth Crisis.

i'm looking at a little catalog promo book from elektra

charactatures. the book was given free at a local record
shop to promote elektra's bands. there is a little bio
on each of them inside, and the feature of the book is a
moby coloring contest. there is a blank page inside with
a bunch of moby drawings that you have to "be as creative
as you can" when coloring. first prize is 5 new EEG releases,
and autogrpahed moby poster, and an autographed bjork
cd (whoopie.). anyone else see this?

Yeah, I saw it. I wasn't sure what to think of it, I had mixed
emotions. I haven't seen many performances by Moby so I didn't know
what do expect. First of all... Viva Variety isn't the most prestigious
show on TV (but who cares I guess). Moby performed well and looked good
but the lyrics weren't that clear or understandable.
I only watched the performance once. I've recorded and have lent it to
a friend... I need to watch it again and see how I feel then.

Hey, that's great news!!! I better start saving up for this one (broke
from seeing Erasure two separate times in SF). I have never seen Moby
perform live and the others artists sound like great acts to catch too.
Now I've got to decide which one of the stops in the Western US I want
to go to:
9/9 - Dallas, TX @ Starplex
9/12 - San Francisco, CA @ Shoreline Amphitheater
9/13 - Los Angeles, CA @ Snow Valley

Not that I know of. MTV posted some dates a week ago and there were
only eight or so. I've posted the info on my web pages along with some
other stuff that Moby has been doing. Check it out. (:
I've also added a bunch of wave samples for the remixes that he has
recently been doing for other artists (Aerosmith, David Bowie, John
Lydon). I wish I could do MP3's but my CD-ROM won't let me and that
would eat up my storage space quick. BTW, the samples aren't
permanent... they will be cycled through as new material is released.
Enjoy!
p.s. Please let me know if you see any mistakes, error, or other things
that can be changed or improved on. Thanks.

now, this brings me to ask the following questions:
1. is moby on tour now?
2. with who?
3. where?
4. is this a real tour or just a few dates scattered here and there?
5. is this ultraviolence tour going to be moby's voodoo child tour?
6. any news on that voodoo child tour?
i think that this would be an awesome concert!!!
johnny violence can either be really great sounding, or really terrible.
but the two have soem similar views i think and together would be awesome!
anyways, if someone could reply even just to say that they have no
answers, i'd appreciate it. thanks aloT!!!!

Does anyone out there have this Moby interview disc.
If so could you post (the answers) to the 37 questions
Moby was asked about Animal Rights and other related
things. Lately I have really been getting into AR.
Especially tracks like "Say It's All Mine" and "Face It".
There is so much emotion coming out of Moby and his
instruments. At first I was not into this rock change,
but once I listened and realized just how incredible and
different these tracks are I fell in love with this CD.

Absolutely. It has what I consider to be the best Orb track ever --
"Majestic (millwall mix)". I can't think of any bad tracks on that CD. Plus
it has a hefty booklet with artist interviews and such. It's a pity that
the other TEX CDs weren't as good.

As much as I'd hate to do this, I'm unsubscribing to the list for a few
weeks since I'll be on vacation. I just sent my message to the majordomo
and
I'll be back after July 4th. Keep these this in mind...Samu is Moby (uh
yeah, you're 15...nice try).
Be back soon. I'm camping in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. For all you
not
familiar with that area, lots of militant militia people and cheap
camping.
My shaved head and low budget should suffice for the environment. I'll
come

Sorry about the non-Mobyness of this post, but I don't have anyone to ask
for an opinion...
I just read a review of the latest Squarepusher CD in Alternative Press,
and they said that it was super, great, and other superlatives I'm too
tired to remember right now. I found it in my local store, but since it's
an import, it costs something like $20.99.
So I was wondering, have any of you heard this CD? How is it? Is it worth
the price? You probably should email me privately about this -

Thanks!

hello, my name is cj and i am 14 years old. i have only been into
"techno" for a year now so my moby collection isn't that big. i have
"everything is wrong," "rare collected b'sides," "animal rights," "early
underground," and the "move" single. i am planning on buying the
earlier moby stuff when i get the money. i first heard moby on a local
college radio station during a late night techno show and i liked what i
heard so the next day i bought "everything is wrong." i also like the
prodigy, cj bolland, chemical brothers, apphex twin, and underworld.

i've been here almost since the very begining of the list, but every once
in a while i like to remind everyone who i am. so here goes:
my name is xaq. (that's "zac") i'll be 21 in september. however, i don't
drink, smoke or do drugs of any kind, unless you count coffiee, in which
case i'm a junkie. i do eat meat, but i try to find other things to eat
whenever possible.
i live in proctor, minnesota. proctor is about 10 minutes from duluth,
which is about 140 miles from minneapolis/st. paul, home of prince!
i'm a dj at the on campus raido station here at UMD. KUMD 103.3fm. i have
a show every tuesday night from 10pm to 12:30am. i spin everything from
big beat chemical brothers to evil dj tron type gabber. my genre of
choice is happy hardcore. i play moby fairly often.
i am also the coordinator of "progress," a monthly rave/dance/party thing.
the next one is this sunday!! i can't wait!
i've been into moby since around '94. i saw him at first ave. on june
5th, '95. it was the show that was bootlegged. i used to have a copy, but
i thought that the sound was really bad, so i taped over it. before the
show, he made an apperance at a local record shop and signed three of my
cd's and my extra comp to the show.
i now have about 20 cd's of his and five records. i'm planning on getting
his voodoo child album next.
i'm the person who took on the silly task of making the moby 'zine.
needless to say, it failed, but i did get a mostly final copy off to ryu,
who said it was good.
i also write my own techno based music.
if there are any of you who are dj's or also write your own stuff, maybe
we could swap tapes! or, if you're into happy hardcore, i have about 6
mixes of other dj's that i could trade. write back privatly if you want
to work something out.
my favorite "band" of all time is marilyn manson. yes, i like both moby
and manson! that describes my personality pretty weel too. i've seen
manson three times.
well, i think that's all i can say without getting way off topic, so i
guess i'm done.

everytime i mention marilyn manson ANYWHERE, someone has to tell me to
shut up or go to hell or whatever. so i don't mind it anymore. i
understand that there are people out there who only look and things like
skin color and hair styles and make thier judgement. fine. human nature i
guess. but i think people like moby would find these bigots and fashion
suckers to be less then human. i greatly respect moby and his beliefs.
i also greatly respect marilyn manson and HIS beliefs. both moby and
manson have been looked down upon for saying and standing up for what they
love and trust. they are both very honest people. americans don't like
honesty. they want to see a bright neon label on everything that tells
them what's inside so they know whether or not to buy it.
as for music genres, i love music. granted, some of it i don't
understand, but i love the act of making music. it;s the people who don't
like ANY music that scare the hell out of me. i've met a few...brrrr...
so, please, tell me what you think, but don't tell me WHAT to think.

hey everyone
this is about the SCREEMING/marilyn/xaq/tripp/thing..
first of all, xaq, you shouldn't have to go tripping (no pun intended)
all over yourself defending MM. i think that everyone on this list knows
enough to respect each others' tastes and beliefs and 'to each his(or
her) own.'.. and has good reason for thinking what they think, and would
share it if asked..
now DJTRYP, or whatever your name is, i think it is totally cool for you
to say whatever it is you are trying to say.. this is an open forum.. but
try to be a little more open-minded. your post actually *disturbed* me.
maybe that's stupid. but saying things like...
THATS KEWL THAT U DIG MOBY AND SUM OF THOSE OTHER GROUPS, BUT DON'T THINK
THAT IT IS TECHNO..
i mean we can all think what we wanna think bro'. telling you to shut up
is the last thing i want to come off as doing, because then i would be
totally going against what i believe.. but i for one was attracted to
this list b/c it was (is) so open-minded and everyone seems to respect
what everyone else has to say.. so please keep on speaking your mind, but
not by telling other ppl that they are stupid.. try arguing and backing
up your ideas instead of just SCREEMING them at him/us.. they sound more
like the words used in personal vendettas than opinions..

a few things all posters on this need to be refreshed on.
1) all caps and alternating caps are unbelievably annoying. they make you
sound like you are six years old.
2) abreviations are acceptable, if they are standard. come on, everybody's
doing it. conform conform conform. no seriously, shit like 'U' for 'you'
is not kosher, but 'b/c' for 'because' or 'btw' for 'by the way' is. if it
saves you keystrokes, do it, but if you do it to sound cool, stop.
3) intentional mispellings are punishable by dismemberment. kewl for cool?
learn to type. but unintentional mispellings are okay. try to edit your
posts, but it is understandable if you are using apps like telnet.
4) dot sigs. keep them short. if people want to hear your world views,
they can finger you, or write you for your essays. mine is, what 3 lines
long? you're all praising me i'm sure. but if you have a ten line sig,
please turn it off for mailing lists, everybody sees it on every post you have.
5) read all posts before you reply to any of them. i am guilty of this as
much, if not more than any of you. how many people really had to reprimand
DJTRYP for his little outburst? me too posts clutter up our mailboxes and
our hard drives.
6) references. your reply should always be 50% of the message. you have a
brain, you have opinions, use them. cut out other people's words that don't
apply to your message. on the tool list a few weeks ago, some kid was
quoting entire digests. needless to say, i'm not on that list anymore.
okay, i'll get off my soap box now. uhm tie this to moby, er, uhm, does
anyone have the sources for the facts in the everything is wrong spoiler?
reply to me privatly, please.
see you in arkham.

just a quick note to help you save your hard earned cash. i listened to
the new prodigy album "the fat of the land" about 5 minutes ago and can
honestly say "YUCK!!!" now, i have absolutely LOVED prodigy up till now.
i'm not one of those band wagon hoppers. i still think hyperspeed is
BRILLAINT!! this new album is garbage. it's all trip hop based like
firestarter and breathe and never once gets poundy and crazy like in the
past. and even *I* could write better synth lines. stay away from it!

ya man, i agree with u on this one...the prodigy used 2 2 be techno with
phat beatz and wicked samples, but now there punks with beatz and bad
singing...sum of there tracks on the new disc are kewl..."funky shit"
"smack my bitch" and the instrumental ones...the first to are oldies,
they just never made on any albums...anything with keith on vocals
basically suck, if he would shut up..!?!?
the prodigy are still massive although they have soldout and they still
have the worlds greatest live show ( its outta this world )

where did you get it anyways? it should be released 30.6.. oh well, i dont
either like those new prodigy songs (like breathe, firestarter, funky shit,
molotov bitch etc..) . i have to say that Prodigy made a big mistake with
new album. The Prodigy's last albums "Experince and The Music for the jilted
generation" where good, almost brilliant, but i think this is real mistake..
GO BACK TO TECHNO THE PRODIGY! i mean like they made on "music for jilted
generation"
but i also think that their new album could sell very well..

the new prodigy really sucks? what a shame... although i didn't really
like "music for the jilted generation" much... "experience" was much
better... i kinda wish they stayed with that kind of sound...
but as far as i know, the new prodigy is supposed to be released in the US
around July 1st... or at least, that's when the Media Play stores are
getting it...
another prodigy note... i bought a double cd compilation about a week and a
half ago called "in the mix"... the first cd was basically remixes of songs
by other groups... like the chem bros remix of voodoo child, orbital's
remix "remind" for meat beat manifesto... etc... prodigy had a remix for
art of noise but i don't recall the name of the song... the cd's in my car
at the moment... the song is REALLY good... sounds like it was done in
their "experience" days...
for those of you that are curious, the second cd is just songs by groups...
the whole cd is very good... i got it for $12.99 at media play... they have
a pretty large techno section and usually stay up on the latest... also got
technotrax volume 17 and 18 there... 18 is very good... 17 was okay...
sounded more trance than anything... not that i hate trance, but it sounded
exactly like the World of Trance Vol 2 cd's... oh well... that's my take...
laters...
