Yeah, he does look like a member of the Presidents...it reminds me of the

Subject: (mobility) Finally, a positive AR review
Date: 01 Mar 1997 11:25:58 -0500 (EST)
This is from the February 14 issue of Jam magazine, a local, Orlando,
Florida magazine.
MOBY
Animal Rights
Elektra Records
* * * * 1/2
I'm going to take a risk of sounding ignorant to make a point here. Up until
now, I have always lumped Moby under the "Techno" umbrella. Mostly due to my
own preconceived ideas about artists who mainpulate machines to get the
sounds that they want onto wax. I never really paid that much attention to
the aural pictures that make up the body of his work. As the saying goes,
little did I know that I was so missing so much. Simply put, my mind has
been changed, my mind has been opened a little more, and my mind has been
blown away.
Part of the reason is the fact that Moby has traded in all of his synths and
processors and opted for a guitar. In the face of the death of guitar rock,
Moby stands up in defense of punk-influenced riffing and breathes new life
in its use in modern, dance-oriented music. Moby is gritty, dirty, angry,
and all of the other qualities that make hard rock so satisfying, but he's
still original.
There is a quote on the inside of the liner notes that gives us all a pretty
good insight into how to get the most out of this record. "Please listen to
Animal Rights in its entirety at least once." It fits so well because in a
lot of ways this record is a journey. A journey with several twists and
turns; a journey that is angry, sensitive, thought provoking, and punk all
in the same breath. Somehow, the ambient glow of "Dead Sun" moving into the
full-on assault of "Someone To Love" just seems to...fit. It's a paradox
that rolls throughout the entire masterpiece. At well over 70 minutes odds
are you won't miss the time as it slides by. My suggestion is to lock
yourself in a room and let your mind wander through the first great record
of the year. You just might realize as I did that truly inspiring music and
art always have less boundaries than we think.

I'll write to the guy that I had been talking to about a month ago to
see how things are going. Hopefully he will respond quickly. Also, I
didn't plan on hearing from CNotes until this upcoming week seeing that
the promotion was suppose to official end on Feb 28, only three days

i recently got moby's 1979 remix, and i must
say that it is outstanding! i was not a fan
of the original song too much, but moby turned
it into something totally different...and better.
this is without a doubt my favorite remix of
moby's for another artist. it just screams "moby"
because of it's electronic ambience, guitar noise,
and emotion. if you haven't heard this yet,
i can't recomend it enuff.

I agree with you. I love the Lopez singles (though Why Can't it Stop
is much better than Emptiness IMO) and I think they have feeling. The
ONLY Moby song I can think of that doesn't 'seem' to have feeling is
Sim 1 by Voodoo Child. I don't know why, I just don't like that song..

How do you know? Maybe he WANTS to make techno... Is it that if anyone
makes techno now they are selling out? Why would moby be selling out?
Whats the difference between him making another techno album and David
Bowie making a techno album (and dont even start on David Bowie). I
think if Moby were to make a techno album we would (almost) all devour
it with our ears.

Im very confused. Why is wanting to be popular selling out? When I
listened to grunge/punk/underground/what ever you want to call it rock
n' roll it was selling out to make your hardcore music slower and softer
so that you could get signed to a record company or to make your music
more radio friendly. Moby totally switched genres something (and the
reviews prove this) that isnt being accepted wholeheartedly.

They are usually in the Techno/Ambient sections here in Toronto,
although you are right that sometimes you find it in the R&B sections
of the bigger, more commercial music stores. BTW, where do you do
your music shopping? I actually can find most of the tehcno stuff
I'm looking for in Toronto, except some of the rarest imports(like
Paul Van Dyk's "Seven Ways", which I have been looking forever for).
The only thing is that the imports are pretty expensivc, like
Orblivion, which I saw at a few places for $29.99. But all in all,
the techno scene is pretty decent - well....at least on Queen St. if
nowhere else, and we don't get too many concerts up here either.

yeah...
i agree with you...it probably is one of the best,
because it really doesn't sound like the original....
and really, in one of the trancripts, Moby said himself that the reason he
did that so differently is because he hated the original version of the song.
i do like that very much..if you have the lp version of it, speed it up and
see what it sounds like..real nice.

the single for the PRODIGY's "fire", i believe it was. anyway, it had 5
tracks i think, 2 versions of fire, two versions of jericho, and an
unreleased song. it came in a black digipack and on the case, it said
"strangely limited edition". i was just wondering if anybody could tell me
any more about this, like how limited is it, is it any good, is it worth
buying, etc.?

What's up, everybody...
I'm a new guy on the list, so I thought to introduce myself.
I'm a twenty year old college student, soon to be a Texas Aggie.
I don't have much of a Moby collection as such, but I've got a few.
Since I heard the Rainforest Mix of Go on a techno cd I borrowed from a
buddy a while back, I have been grabbing up all the Moby stuff I can.
Anyway, I'm engrossed in the beginnings of March Madness just now, so
I'm going to shut up. Adios...

Subject: (mobility) Yet Another Review
Date: 07 Mar 1997 13:14:32 -0500
This one is from the local school paper...
CD Briefs
by Josh Casten
Moby's debut was a surprising mix of aural melodies, hyper dance beats
and some outright thrash. But sometime between then and now, he got tired
of dance music, and decided to record a straight-up rock record. The sound
of Animal Right is basically a lo-fi Nine Inch Nails - his guitars sound a
little too washed out, the drums are muffled and Moby is using way too much
reverb on his own voice. Animal Rights is also sorely lacking in variety -
almost everything is at 200 bpm with lots of shouting, over melodies that
can only be described as brutish.
The only relief comes from the soundscape instrumentals, something that
Moby can still pull off pretty well. The second half of the CD is in fact
dominated by slower, more patient material. "Old" and the violin-accented
"Love Song For My Mom" are just plain beautiful, achingly hypnotic and
soothing. But it's still pretty jarring to be riding the chaotic wave that
reaches a peak with "That's When I Reach For My Revolver" and then get dumped
on a glittering, soothing beach.
Ok..it's me again..the review came w/ a picture I don't recognize(maybe it's
w/ the US AR?!?)..Moby's sitting on concrete(?!?!)...one hand to his head...
one on his knee..looks like he has Nike's on...2 Black guys are walking behind
him...gonna get ahold of the paper to see where they got it...Also...just a
reminder...set your vcr's to record this weeks 120 Minutes..Moby's gonna be a

Moby criticises other although he himself has failing?
Well I think that's a good thing, as you can't always see your own faults
and it takes someone from outside to point these things out. If none of
us criticised others because we we busy contemplating our own navels,
what a quiet little introspective world we'd live in. Imagine a world
with no discussion or debate, no criticism, no differences of opinion,
no Mobilty :-(
He' human like the rest of us, he isn't God. He con't always be right,
but he does have a point of view. I personally respect him a lot
because he has opinions and is prepared to use all media to express
them. Better that sitting at home and saying nothing.
Mark.

ROCK IS DEAD
LONG LIVE...?
With grunge on life support and sales flatlining, the music biz is looking
to spark a rebirth with electronica. But can you dance to it?
By Chris Willman
[snip]
Beck himself hardly counts as a techno-cian. But one of the godfathers of
the genre, Moby, pointedly prefers Beck's revolutionary brand of
electronically enhanced hip-hop-rock over the massive wave of dance music
he helped inspire.
"All the journalists who are getting excited about this 'electronica'
revolution, I feel they missed the boat," sniffs Moby, who's done his
small part to buck the tide by going back to guitars on his latest album,
Animal Rights. "The stuff that's going on now is a real pale imitation of
what was happening five years ago. It would be like people declaring a
punk-rock revolution in 1985." The future, Moby claims, is in hybrids:
"There are great electronic records and great rock records. The thing that
interests me is people combining the two--Beck being a good example,
someone who basically made an electronic record but sang on top of it."

well, i saw him in 95 i think, way before animal rights. it was just him
and two drummers on stage. there was one keyboard in the center along
with a drum pad and two congas. there was also a guitar behind
everything. the drummers were on both sides.
he played mostly EIW stuff along with a few older toons. he finnished
with 1000 while standing on top of the keybaord and pumping his fists
into the air and posing like christ on the cross. there were lots of
flashing strobes and stuff during that part too!
it was cool watching him jump around and get all sweaty. it got REALLY
hot pretty quick with everyone dancing and frolicing (sp?) around. he
opened with an extreamly extended version of hymn. when the song couldn't
possibly build up any more, it stopped and he said, "my name is moby" and
instantly ripped into ah ah. i just about died then and there.
it was probably the most energy packed show i've ever been to, and i like
to think i've been to quite a few.
and on that note, dose anyone else have their U2 tickets yet? i got mine
last week for a show in october at the metrodome, 68th row on the floor.

My name is justin, i live near chicago and am 16. im a saggitarius, i like
reading and sometimes writing. I enjoy watching movies (good, bad, mediocre,
ive only felt taht one movies was a waste of my time, but in retrospect it
wasnt too bad).
I love moby quite dearly, ive been listening to him for a few years now, ever
since my sister brought home a copy of the MOVE ep. I got everything is wrong
pretty early after its release, and i dig alot of his older stuff. my
favorite moby cd would be the Evil Ninja Moby mix of EIW, prefferably the
first disc. ummm...i like aphex twin, but tahts not waht this list is about,
is it? i dont post very often to anything unless tehre is an important point
to the opst (ie, i have something valid to say) oh yeah, i dig almost every
form of music, with certain exceptions along their lines, and i dont count
country into that mix. Why? because country just sucks thats why. umm i think
that's all ive got to say for now, lest i come up with something original,
maybe ill post it.

in theory, no one would make amovie about him until he died, in which case
any actor taht i name would be too old to play him, as such defeating the

but if one were to make amovie about him, i would say taht he is the only one

I know this is an old post..but seeing how I had problems w/ my email
and couldn't respond to it in a timely fashion...I thought I'd do it
now...
Look at it this way Xaq..Moby will always be a hypocrite...to go on
tour he has to use fossil fuels(more than likely)...a computer(used to
chat on SonicNet) isn't environmentally friendly...unless he uses that
Greenpeace studio(that Orbital used for one of their songs) to
make/produce his music...his music won't be ef(environ. friendly)...etc
etc etc...See my point??? Seems to me he's striving to better
himself..but from time to time he'll be a hypocrite in doing it...And
as I've said b4..sometimes you have to sell yourself to the devil(MTV
in this case) to get what you want(exposure)

heres my take on Veganism/killing our friends the trees and animals.
I have a GORGEOUS leather jacket that is over 20 years old. ive never
seen one like it. its been my best friend in cold weather for a long
time, and is quite useful in wet weather as well. i was at a friends
place one day and she had a male friend over <whom i later became
friends with> who fit your punk/save everything stereotype to a T. he
asked me, "how many cows died to give you that jacket?" to which I
replied, "Seven. You want their names?" Selah. :)

i never saw the movie "heat" before, but moby's "god moving over the
face of the waters" is played at the end, and i'm not sure what
version it is... it's slightly different from the album version...
they also have "new dawn fades" by moby... it seems to be a good
soundtrack for the most part... moby, william orbit (lots of songs),
ultraviolence, to name a few...

if you read on the back of the CD case it has a list of CD-ROM drives
that are incompatible... this is because the disc does not conform to
Red Book standards.. ie: its a mutant disc and basiccly they are lucky
it works on so many drives....

Yeah, I got this CD quite some time ago and have enjoyed it emensely.
Moby's contribution was great, IMHO! :) I wish I had "Hands On Yello -
The Updates". I didn't realize that this came out until a year or so
after the fact. However, this Update doesn't have any Moby.

Just for clarification here's the info. The first remix album for the
group Yello is called "Hands On Yello", I recommend picking this up.
Moby left a beautiful contribution. When you get the booklet that comes
with the album, read the little blurb that Moby says.... I'll quote if
I get the chance later. The second album called "Hands On Yello - The
Updates" does have Moby but his track isn't any different from the
previous release. Hope that helps, and enjoy!

I have to warn people that the Starplex is the worst place you could see
your favorite artist.. unless you feel like watching Moby on huge TVS...
because the seats are okay but if you dont get a seat you sit in the
field in the back and watch the monitors... its really a horrible
arena... and the sound sucks too.. oh well...

i also have a happy story about saturday night!
the radio station i dj at, KUMD, and more specifically the RPM show, put
on it's first "rave" saturday night. i say "rave" 'cause it was really
small and only went till 11pm. but "dance" sounds too jr. high and
"party" sounds like it should involve beer or something.
so anyway, this rave featured the talents of five RPM djs, me being one
of them. the first two guys played mostly house and jungle. kevin craig
totally blew my mind with his scratching and cutting. he was better than
anything i've heard on any mixtape or cd. than it was me. i mixed into
the lungle with "feeling so real" westbam mix, pitched up a bit. it was
awesome! i continued with the happy hardcore stuff for a bit, then
totally changed the tempo with "creator" by messiah. i was really nervous
at first 'cause it was my first time spining in front of real people and
ALSO my first time using a really good mixer. i use two 1200 at the
station so i've used to them, but they were set up in "battle formation"
so it was a bit tough getting used to that at first. after about 15
minutes though, i calmed down. i also played "feeling so real" old skool.
the next guy went strait to gabber and some really hard edged stuff. he
eventually settled down to tracks like "atom bomb" by fluke.
then demonica del rio ripped into the industrial! her set was by far my
favorite. i felt like a bowl of jell-o after she was done.
we had an ok turn out. demonica and i had the biggest crowds on the dance
floor.
i can't wait to do it again! the one hour i had just seemed to fly by. i
could've kept going all night once i got over my nervousness.
i guess this is a bit long and no too moby oriented, so i'll stop now.

sorry to bring up an old subject, but i just saw two shows on TLC. one
about cats and the other about dogs. both of them mentioned that by
domesticating a cat or dog, you are really robbing it of a chance to
mature fully. they never "grow up" mentally. they never have to provide
thier own food and hunt like they normally would, or provide safty for
their young, therefore they are children till they die.
just another thing to think about i guess...
btw...i have two cats and two dogs. and some fish and a newt.

Date: 17 Mar 1997 15:48:44 -0500
Once again...here's another review of AR...This time from The Rocket(as
they say, "The Northwest Music and Entertainment Magazine")
Moby
Animal Rights
(Elektra CD)
The most formative years of a child's life are supposedly his
earliest ones. It seems the teenage years, however, were more
influential in the life - or at least the career - of electronic
pioneer and producer, Moby. An adolescent during the first half of the
1980's, Moby's love of synth pop bands like New Order and Echo and the
Bunnymen unarguably led to his deep interest in techno and house music.
Yet the early '80s also brought with them punk and new wave bands like
Public Image Ltd. and Black Flag. Moby's latest effort, "Animal
Rights", makes it clear that he was a product of the early '80s as a
whole.
Moby recently opened for Soundgarden on their European tour, and
the latter's influence on "Animal Rights" is obvious in the album's
metal-punk edge. The bass and guitar on "Face It," for instance, are
as beliberate and oppressive as any of Soundgarden's slower, heavier
pieces. The three-chord structure of "You," on the other hand, pays
tribute to Moby's interest in punk, while the opening mechanized drums
and metallic guitar of "Come On Baby" are reminiscent of Nine Inch
Nails.
Moby hasn't entirely lost his love of the experimental,
interspersing instrumental interludes - many encompassing an entire
synth-spawned string orchestra - throughout "Animal Rights". Nor has
his independent spirit died; Moby played all the instruments on every
song, save two, and engineered the album in his New York Studio. Still
it's telling that "Animal Rights'" best track is a cover of Mission of
Burma's "That's When I Reach for My Revolver."
Judged on its own merits, "Animal Rights" isn't that bad. When
placed within an historical context, problems arise. While Moby's
electronic music made him a leader, his current foray into the world of
metal relegates him to the role of a follower. With "Animal Rights",
the former musicical pioneer has become just another Soundgarden or
Trent Reznor rip-off. Nina Pealman
Ok..me again...just curious..when was that tour w/ Soundgarden..cuz
Moby started slowly turning back to his punk roots in '95(with EIW
)..Also I don't know where Nina hears NIN in Moby's music...I sure
don't..One last thing..I don't think Moby was THAT worried about how AR
would fit in the historical context of music...Seems to me if he had
been..he would have stuck w/ electronic music <shrug>

This message mainly goes out to those subscribed to "mobility-digest".
As you will have noticed before reading this message. You went without
a digest for five days:
Wednesday, 12 March 1997 - Volume 01 : Number 016 / 22.2 kB
Monday, March 17 1997 - Volume 01 : Number 017 / 41.0 kB
The majordomo system that carries out the mailing functions of this list
was recently upgraded. However, the digest operations got messed up in
the process. It explains why there was such a huge gap and why digest
#17 was so huge (twice the size than normal - because of the que that
sat until forced out today). Anyway, this is just mumbo jumbo and me
trying to fill you.
One last thing (and this goes for digest subscribers only); how do you
like the size of the digests being sent? Please only take digests #1 -
#16 into consideration (#17 was messed up as I have already explained).
Each digest is normally 20 kb - 25 kb per issue. Should this be
increased or decreased? Thanks.
Any questions? Problems? Please let me know.

been talking back and forth with me about this promotion since early
February. I wrote him last week asking what progress was being made on
the Moby internet link promotion. He doesn't give a time frame but at
least it's something. Here is what he had to say:
(Greg was advised that this would be forwarded to the mailing list)
Hello Damian!!
There were some difficulties (apparently in communications) with the
labels sending out the CDs for similar promos in past giveaways. To
avoid
any further such incidents we are having Elektra send the MOBY CDs to us
and we are going to send them out ourselves. I will let you know as soon
as
they arrive and are on their way.
I appreciate all of your help and patience!!

what kind of crack was this reporter smoking?...moby is no longer his own

today are copying Prodigy and Chem Bros, just to sound *cool*....moby, as

The name dropping isn't as bad as it usually is, though. Reviewers are so
little minded sometimes. All they can ever think about is NIN. Trent does
great stuff, but he isn't the standard by which all music produced with a
synthesizer is judged. Come on people, think a little when you review.

Oh, come on. Let's not be silly.
While Moby's
>electronic music made him a leader, his current foray into the world of
>metal relegates him to the role of a follower.
This reviewer doesn't really know what she's talking about. As we all know
here, musically, Moby does whatever the hell he wants, whenever he wants,
and the rest of us just have to roll with the punches.
With "Animal Rights",
>the former musicical pioneer has become just another Soundgarden or
>Trent Reznor rip-off.
>
I don't think the reviewer was thinking too hard when she wrote this review.
For example, she writes:
Moby hasn't entirely lost his love of the experimental,
>interspersing instrumental interludes . . . throughout "Animal Rights".
Five sentences later, she writes:
With "Animal Rights",
>the former musicical pioneer has become just another Soundgarden or
>Trent Reznor rip-off.

okay... at first, i didn't really like AR, but i listened to it a lot
over spring break, and it's pretty good in its own right... BUT, this
nina chick said something about moby going from a pioneer to a
follower? didn't he say on 120 minutes that he was going back to
punk because everyone and their mother is going electronic? wouldn't
that make him a second generation pioneer BACK to punk? or am i just
interpreting what he said completely wrong?
yeah, i listen to neworder and echo, and i don't think moby's music
sounds anything like them... and didn't SPIN totally rape AR with a
rating of 4 (out of 10)? i mean i was disappointed at first, but i
wouldn't have given it a 4... they should judge the album and not
compare it to previous work (which i'm guilty of, and i'll try
not to do it again)...
one thing that pissed me off around the release of AR was hearing
TWIRFMR thrust in the middle of a chilli peppers/nirvana/stone temple
mix... i thought moby deserved a little better rotation than that...

I have no idea. At first I assumed that it would be a store bought

Nope, haven't heard a thing. If it is to be released today, I'm
surprised that nothing more specific has been mentioned or announced by
Elektra or MCT.
I also think it's strange how Elektra has been timing things. Elektra
(I guess I should say SubPop) released Revolver as a 7" and three weeks
later the album Animal Rights. Then they are supposedly releasing an
actual single for Revolver almost a month after the album. Why not
release Revolver w/the 7"?
I'm sorry but with how things are looking and how trends normally go, I
think we'll be lucky if we see one more single released from the album.
After that it'll be a no go if the sales aren't more than promising.
That's just my feelings, especially when it comes to Elektra. I thought
things were looking up with the relationship between Moby and Elektra,
but not any more. Then again, maybe it's still too early and I'll just
end up eating my words. :)

Subject: (mobility) Animal Rights - Conversion

Okay I too have just picked up our hero's latest work, that being the
'Animal Rights' CD. Want a mini-review?...nope. Aint gonna have it, too many
already posted and I'm sure you'll pass the words in one ear and out the
other. But, my opinion...okay. I like it, I'm not disappointed with this
'new sound' that many have complained about over some messages here and
there because yes, its somewhat his old style (I've not heard the older
'pre-techno' material ala Flipper and such, although Ultra Vivid Scene was
very underrated, an awesome project - Kurt Ralske is better than Cobain) but
is it just me, or can alot of these songs be converted into techno songs as
well? Its already been done with 'Revolver' and I can see alot of tunes
slipping into some remixers hands and being shaped into nice deviant digital
delicacies. My favourites...'Say Its All Mine' and 'Face It' (all f-ing 10
minutes of it..ahhh) and I think they can be reworked into even better
songs. Any other ideas? Does the single for 'Come on Baby' do the same? I'm
lost in the 'singles' domain of Moby knowledge.
I own no singles/imports/bootlegs/interviews/recitations/spoken
word/remixes/acting auditions/phone messages/eraser shreds/etc. from Moby so
maybe I'm in some unchartered territory here, but the music has the same
feel as his earlier work, just a different package. I've already posted this
before a few weeks ago, I just wanted to confirm my thoughts AFTER I heard
the CD myself.
I remember an old interview of Moby's where he said he likes to make music
that sounds good even on a shitty cassette player like one he has at home,
and this latest CD does that theory justice.
Any word on his contribution to 'The Saint' soundtrack? Is it
old/new/unreleased/demo/etc? Tell me.

i think you're right here. it's hard to be a pioneer of electronic music
now that everybody's doing it. moby did his job a few years ago, and
i think he's satisfied with that. by him going back to metal/punk and
trying something kinda new with it (it's a tad different, you gotta admit)
while nobody else is caring about the guitar, he is in fact becoming a
pioneer again. reviewers like that girl don't really know much about what
they are reviewing and it shows.

that they finally have a web site. the address is:
http://www.island-independent.com/springheeljack/
it's still new, and small, but has a message board
and a contest running. check it out.
sorry for the non-mobiness of this message, so to
compensate, here's a question:
if moby was to make a guest appearance on a tv
sitcom, which sitcom would it be, and what would
his roll be?

Hopefully not Friends (I can't believe Chryssie Hynde did that...) or Ellen
(Look, I'm a lesbian...suprised?..uh no.) My vote would be Third Rock from
the Sun. He'd play an alien posing as a musician and his name would be Moby
also (yes, its like the Dennis Rodman cameo, but better). They'd meet him in
a bar or record store.
Or, he could do what alot of other musicians have done...appear on 'The
Adventures of Pete and Pete', but I don't have cable so that's not so good.

Oh man, you read my mind. Reading this took me back to seeing Michael
Stipe on the screen saying "You look like a bona fide sludgesicle man" and
raising his eyebrows and seeing Juliana Hatfield warning big Pete not to
eat the meatloaf in the cafeteria. Great show, even without the musician
cameos....is Pete and Pete still on, and if so, who's done cameos lately?
As to what sitcom Moby would be on....I'm just going to have to vote for
the X-Files...he would fit in SO well with the Lone Gunmen....heck, maybe
we could persuade the producers to make that one guy that always wears the
cool shirts (Ramones, Social Distortion before they became big, etc.) to
wear a Moby shirt....

I didn't know this. Can anyone provide the track listing? I know
Oribital is on it, what about the rest? Thanks.

Yes, Moby appears on the forthcoming sountrack for 'The Saint' along with
alot of other techno artists (Daft Punk, Sneaker Pimps, Chemical Brothers to
name a few).
Check out the website: http://www.virginrecords.com/saint/
And its got some sound samples too. Moby's contribution 'Oil 1' sounds cool.
No word on the release date.
I'm looking forward to the movie not only because of the soundtrack and
Elisabeth Shue (a tasty looking morsel, eh?), but because its based on the
original UK TV series that made Roger Moore famous before he became James Bond.
Ta Ta.

discography. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the info. I'm off to
check it out. :)

photek, fsol, orbital, sourse direct, and leftfield. it is one of the

I love Wu-Tang clan. Their style of rap is so much better than all these
new "gangsta rap". They aren't promoting violence, they are just rapping
because they love it. This is also true of A Tribe Called Quest, the next
best in my opinion. Two groups, different styles, but the same message.

I went to www.virginrecords.com/saint/artistsall.html and in their bio of
moby, they quoted Dan's Ultimate Moby Page. I listened to the clip of
Oil 1. It's ok. The whole song is probably good.

Hi.
I feel the same way as you do regarding hip hop. I've loved that
genre for quite a while now and I too find the gangsta style way too
played out. While most people seem to feel that "gangsta rap" died
with Eazy E, I think the majority of rappers today still are playing
out that style, especially those from the West side of the US.
Anyway, a Tribe Called Quest are still my favorite hip hop group,
although I found their latest album to be a little too commercial for
my taste, and as a whole dissappointing. It always saddens me to see
my fav. artists make a song "listener" friendly, and not make it how
they want it to sound. I'm not sure if the Tribe succombed to such a
temptation, but I think that their lastest album is very different
from their previous three.
later,
Ben
PS- the Wu tang are my second favorite group. They have a nice raw sound
that no other hip hop artists can touch.

Today is supposed to be the release date for the Revolver remixes. Has
anybody seen them? I just advance-ordered a vinyl release from CDnow,
but didn't see a CD listed.
