Belated welcome to Karla! (I was on vacation, so I'm allowed - haha).
My boyfriend went to parts of South America a little over a year ago & he said that Santiago was the best place he went to. Hope it still rocks. I grew up in Lima until I finished 1st grade. It's really cool to read from individual Moby fans who are from countries we usually don't hear from.
First song that made me like Moby: Go
And about the new album: Moby said he's got about 130-140 songs & he's checking to see which ones he falls in love with the most. So depending on what he picks, the record could take any sound, shape, color...
And I think Moby has $19,037,624 and 88 cents (not including what he's donated to charity).
love&hello,

PS: I am currently watching the video for New Order's "Crystal" (love that song, the words). What's with New Order not being in a New Order video? It reminded me of REM's "Crush With Eyeliner" where they have a cute young hip band in their place. Now will MTV play it?

I just went to a Ritchie Hawtin party last night. It was AWESOME. If anybody is interested in going to them I think he posts his parties on m-nus.com. He had a festival last week (www.lifefestcanada.com) that was really nice and laid back on the riverfront of Windsor. Kevin Saunderson was there for those of you that saw him in the rave cave at Area One. I know I keep talking about Detroit Techno but to make this Moby related in a more direct way, they are both bald and good musicians.
Love to All,

Now he and Aquaviva are also using laptops hooked up to their mixers. They're using a program called Final Scratch which is an MP3 player that takes the MP3s and makes it like a vinyl. And hooked up with a mixer you can use a regular vinyl on a turntable and use it with the MP3 program and mix the two. I'm not fully sure I understand how it works but I read it in an article. At the festival I was straining to figure out what the heck he was doing on that laptop. If anybody knows anything about this program or anything similar to it let me know. I think that the one that he's using is a beta version.
AND DE9. It hasn't been released here yet but I have it on pre-order so I'm waaaiitting....

Yeah that explanation clarified it and it makes sense that the use of FinalScratch requres special vinyls. I was curious about BeOS and it's kind of cool because you don't have to partition or dual boot. It just starts with a boot floppy. The hardware specifications are a little strict (for networking) but the apps on it are pretty cool.

Their soon to be released album "Let It Come Down" can be heard there (only for today, or so I've been told). But I was also told that it would only be played at 2 & 7 pm (Eastern time), but 2 songs are available at the moment ("Out of Sight" sounds alright, rough-bluesy; "Stop Your Crying" isn't my cup of tea).
Chemical Brothers have a new single "It Began in Afrika" coming out on Tuesday, though the album isn't till early 2002 (am I the only one STILL creeped out at typing 20-anything? No more 19--).
And what's up with Dave Navarro marrying Carmen Electra next year?..it makes odd sense, but ugh...
Sorry this email is not Moby related...

Ok i'm rewriting this because my cat just walked over the keyboard and deleted the whole thing......
He wore a red shirt and jeans. After they announced Moby as the winner he walked up onto the stage with one hand in his pocket. He was talking about how he wasn't prepared to win and peeled a sticker off of the podium and held it up and said that it said something about not leaning on the podium. Then he thanked the director of the video because the video was his idea and then said that he wasn't good looking so he thanked Gwen and the camera showed her smiling in the audience.
He won the Best male video.
Missy Elliot's performance was pretty interesting...she came down in a gold space suit looking outfit and there was a huge, huge sculpture of a face in the background. The mouth opened, a carpet rolled out and out came Nelly Furtado. I guess you have to see it to understand what I'm saying. She sang a little and ran off the stage.
Ok..I hope this made a little bit of sense: )lol.
Good night,

I missed the Michael Jackson and Nsync gig. That's a pairing. I thought it was wierd when i was watching some mtv interview with Nsync and one of them was saying that the song was a statement about Pop music or Pop culture and he was insinuating that Nsync was not a part of that. Oh well...
Hey did anyone see the Romeo video by Basement jaxx on launch.com? I'm not biased or anything because I'm Indian. Ok maybe I am.

Wow, Vivian, you're very welcome. The album isn't out yet (October 16 is the date), but I've gotten to hear a lot of it (thanks to devious internet methods - shame on me until I'm redeemed by purchasing it) & a lot of the songs sound oddly familiar, like comfy slippers.
I'm still a little confused at some people I saw during New Order's show at Area:One in SF. One girl was even plugging her ears and doing math homework during the show!!! Unbelievable! As if you get to see New Order all the time or something...
Even if you didn't quite like the music, it was a lot of fun just to watch Bernard hop on one leg, punching the air & randomly yelling "woo!" & then mentioning his 'rather large dick' in between songs. It was also cute when he embarrased Billy Corgan (unsuccesfully trying to be incognito) by telling everyone how he helped write some new songs with them & even played a guitar solo all by himself (hee hee).
I'll pass along another thanks to Sharmila. That "Romeo" video just made my day. Even though Basement Jaxx is usually lacking something for me music-wise, I really like all of their videos that I've seen so far (Mexican Lucha Libre wresslers loosing at a rockpaperscissors duel is genius - "Rendez-vous").

hehe... right before the best male vid award was lady
marmalade, so i had to go out of the room and vomit...
and when i came back i missed moby winning an award.
SHIT!
i was watching this at school, in the auditorium
("movie night" with free pizza and soda! :) and i was
sitting next to a bunch of RABID u2 fans. eep. i kept
quiet ;)
but after they won some lifetime achievement award,
they presented something to The Ramones, and the
surviving members came out onstage and crap! fucking
awesome!!!!! i was cheering and clapping and making
lots of noise, and everyone looked at me weird. i cant
believe it, nobody in my college has heard of the
ramones? I HATE MY SCHOOL!!!!!!! my god, even in high
school there were tons of ramones fans there. damn.
they messed up twice, hehe. they were gonna do jay-z's
performance, and then moby and gwen and eve came out.
haha.
and fuck! MUDVAYNE won the mtv2 award?!?!?! Gorillaz
so deserved that. i voted for them a million times on
the website. fuck!
of course, maybe they disqualified gorillaz cause they
were cartoons or something ;) how could they do an
acceptance speech? that wouldve been cool tho...
anyway, mtv sux so who cares.
the big missy statue was scary. and i like missy. i
like the fact that her hair is so un-hip hop. she's
like the laurie anderson of hip-hop.
and also, the entire room was silent when they did the
aaliyah tribute in the beginning. i guess that's a
good thing, but nobody seemed too sad or anything. oh
well. i miss her.

I received the same email. A friend of mine corrected it. I'm not saying
this is definitely correct either. If this is what was written, I don't
believe it was a prediction. One of the many psychos who contributed to this

know anybody that can. I live and work on Long Island and the College across
from where I work was evacuated because of a bomb threat today. I think it
is sad that some people are making matters worse by making false bomb threats
and fighting with people at gas stations and 711s. How sick are those
people? Whoever sickly took part in this attack are laughing and proud of
what they did because of what happened yesterday and everything following
that...certain Americans are feeding these sick people with their ignorance.
People need to just slow down and let these events sink in. Realize the loss
and feel it so we can move on in a healthy state. On the other hand I am so

of all of you I do love in a human way. I can't explain it but it hurts to

A lot of them were due to religion but I think a lot of people in dearborn and around the metro area that are very scared of racist actions. I think that this is why what happened in dearborn wasn't televised too much. The islam mosque right by wayne state was vandalized. Actually when I was walking home from class there wwer fox 2 news trucks and a camera man and i asked the camera man what he was doing there and he said that someone broke 2 windows in the islam center. I'm really sorry if what I said sounded rude and I don't mean to say horrible things like that. I really apologise to anybody that was offended by what I said. It is just strange to me that a lot of people that are around me have said in the past and I mean a few years ago that America should be bombed. There are quite a few people that say that and I understnad that they are exercising their freedom of speech. Fear just brought out another side of me i guess. Yesterday I saw the most amazing Vietnamese Water puppet show. There were musicians on the side playing some string and some metal instruments and the puppets and stories were so fantastic. It was so beautiful and heart warming with dragons, phoenixes, fish, lions, ducks and puppet people. The musicians were also singing and chanting in Vietnamese and it was not difficult to understand what was going on because it was in such a colourful and visual context. It made me think about how the armies in the camps in Vietnam were exposed to such a beautiful and rich culture full of people that just wanted to live their lives in harmony. Now Afghanistan is in trouble and there are so many people here that are unaware of all of the beautiful things that come out of Afghanistan and the rich culture. This website seems like sort of an overview but I learned a lot from it.

Very well-put, Matt; I agree totally. As strongly as I disagree with what PNK wrote, and as flawed as his "logic" may have been, he's still entitled to his opinion. (Isn't that supposed to have been one of the founding principles of this country, anyway?) Besides, I didn't interpret his letter as a threat, but as more of a misguided attempt at prophecy. Certainly not anything warranting a report to law enforcement.
I know it's at a time like this when it's the most difficult to keep your head, but this is also when it's most crucial to do so, because so much is at stake. We MUST remember to examine our thoughts and bear in mind the effects of our actions on others. To do otherwise is to risk another tragedy.

This brings up a good point and I want to support it with a little
story/incident that happened with me about a year ago..
I remember going out with a certain someone to grab a bite to eat and we
began a discussion about politics and religion, which soon led to the topic
of abortion..
And she asked me whether I agreed with abortion and whether I think it should
be legal..
I, PERSONALLY, do not agree with abortion and think it is wrong...
She then proceeded to get up and leave, telling me that she cannot be friends
with someone who does not agree with abortion...
I was in shock..this was someone who I had spent a great deal of time with
for the past few months and she is going to walk out on me because we
disagree on a point of view..
She told me I was not open minded, yet, I was completely open about accepting
her views and her beliefs..
So then my question to her was: Who is the one that is closing up all those
around her who don't share the same views? And if she only took a minute to
sit down and listen to me and where I am coming from with my belief, she then
may understand that I am not some right-wing conservative planting boms in
abortion clinics...
This was all to let all of you know out there that I whole-heartedly agree
with Matt's Fourth point..we're only doing more damage by slamming people,
epecially when they are serious...I have exchanged e-mails with PNK privately
and honestly believe that he is a good human being...and he also feels for
those who have died...but he also has a belief which ,ay seem uncommon to
many of us and we should respect it...love, elie

Did anyone else see CNN's special program "Beneath the Veil: The Taliban's Harsh Rule of Afghanistan"? I'm astonished beyond words. I have no doubt now that the Taliban have to be stopped. If you couldn't see it, CNN won't say if they'll re-air, but their transcript is here:
http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0109/22/cp.00.html It was an excellent presentation made by a British woman of Afghan descent who went undercover, was arrested, went as close to no-man's-land as possible & interviewed victims.
Most of the program was visual info, of course. Some stills are in the RAWA (Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan) website - they are very graphic & shocking:
http://rawa.fancymarketing.net/index.html Their movement is admirable to say the least; their main "radical" goal is just to have education for all. There are mp3's to download (I'm listening to some little girls singing right now) & ways to support. I know there's a lot of other people who need support right now, too, but if you agree with their cause, you can atleast sign their petition:
