motorcycle or group that had the drift distinction already......can't think
of what/who they are right now. Must be Alzheimers.
I was disappointed to learn the correct 'animal husbandry' term for
"drift". I mean, good grief, pigs will fly before I associate with that
term now. Argh, my illusion is shattered to smithereenees. Sorry Arne, no
t-shirt for me, the word "drifters" is not the same as "drift", but the
association has been indelibly set in my mind....unless that damn Alzheimers
kicks in again.
hmmm, oh yeah it's...

Gotta tap your brains again:
I purchased a Vista Cruis Throttle Lock from the article that Gino or
another author wrote (Hope I'm not misquoting). I've tried to get that
thing on and have been very unsuccessful. The instructions are not the
clearest things in the world either. Do I need to remove parts or adjust
the grips or the brake casing? I am totally lost on this and would
appreciate any help that anyone can offer on this.
Right hand straining,
Mike Thompson

Where does everyone keep their registation and insurance cards? I am
looking to keep them on the bike but need a waterproof place. Also need to
be somewhat secure. If anyone has a good idea I'd sure be thankfull.

This should be the same as I use a NEP model. You need to allow for room
between the grip and the switch housing. Once you get some room there where
the throttle lock will fity an not bind, you will need to get the throttle
lock so that it doesn't rotate. There are different ways to do this, but
this is what I did. At the bottom of the throttle/switch housing, I drilled
and tapped a small hole. I also drilled a hole in the tab on the lower part
of the cruise control. I then made a small spacer that would fill the gap
between the tab and the housing and drill a hole that lined up with the
holes in the tab and the housing. Then I simply screwed the throttle lock
to the housing through the spacer. Make sure the screw doesn't protrude
into the throttle housing too much.

Thanks Vik, for the Tool List. I'm going shopping tonight.
One more question: what's the name of that tool used for tuning the
carburetor while running? I saw that on one of the KLR web pages, but I
can't remember where. ... was it Gino's wondertool? ... I might be wrong
... I can't remember the name of it either, so if somebody could remind me,
that would be great. ... also, do you, guys, think it worth to include that
into the kit? I would mess with the carby only when I need to change the
main jet.
BTW, as far as I know, the main jet on my KLR is a #148. What would you
guys suggest for riding above 10,000 ft or higher? I can take aspirin but
my darling cannot ;-)
Cheers,
istvan

Seems to me that if this is what is required to attatch a throttle lock to a
KLR, then the mfgr of the throttle lock should be ashamed of suggesting that
it will work on a KLR.

I keep mine on my coffee table. Xerox copies live in the right chest
pocket of my jacket in a little ziploc baggie. I generally have to
rexerox the stuff about every 4-5 months.

Gino is correct....I used a large zip tie to keep the throttle lock from
rotating I get in too much trouble with drills...=)
So far it has held for about eight months.

No kidding. I was in Tok, Alaska last June getting ready to get off the
bike in front of the Sugar-something (not real sure of the name) Motel,
when a busload of tourists arrived to check in. In my haste to beat the
crowd to the front desk, I got off the bike and put the stand down - it
went only half way, and the KLR rolled gently over on its side, and I got
pinned under the Jesse luggage. (Nice workmanship from up close, btw.)
A whole herd of elderly tourists just stared and pointed. It was my only
fall of the whole trip, and I was the last one to the desk.

My vista cruise throttle lock did not suggest it would fit on a KLR - I had
to convince it that it would fit on a KLR.
As you can imagine nobody is really thinking about KLR riders when designing
things like throttle locks (BMW's yes, cruisers yes, dualsport bikes no)

Diesel fuel on a cloth. ... it needs some work, though, Juan. When you're
done, you can use a bucket of warm water with a little dish washer detergent
to wash it clean, if you wish, so it will make it shiny. ... I prefer the
oily surface left by the diesel fuel, keeps the spokes from rusting.
